The method that Munroe describes (take a word, substitute characters, than add two random characters at the end) is one of the currently implemented modes in John the Ripper, and one that I personally use. So, the suggested "the godlike predictive password attacks" suggested already exist and are in use.

Point is, I voted it as off topic, but what makes the most sense to me at least is migrating it back to webapps, but they apparently don't want it.
Jan 4, 2012 09:53
That question was migrated from Webapps, but I can't fathom why. At least in my opinion it's a much better fit over there. Their FAQ even explicitly says that they take this kind of question: "Browsers and their features relating to the use of a web application (Greasemonkey scripts for a web application, etc.)"

Q: Is there a Chrome extension that brings back "the old, pre-2011" Gmail style?

ripper234In 2011, Google started rolling out a drastic change to Gmail look & feel, that many people don't like. Is there a Chrome extension that brings back the old style?

I have to say that GadgetTrak is looking pretty cool, mostly because of the price. I might take one for the team and try it out. By which I mean subscribe my laptop.

Aug 21, 2011 05:49

Aug 21, 2011 05:27
I get a ping from this chat room, load it up, and there's a leg.

okay, will work on post about security over the next couple of days. I think topics will include virus protection (w/ some products and configuration tips), firewalls (how to enable and configure the Windows firewall), general guidelines (watch URLs carefully, think before you click, etc), and an overview of what the big threats are right now and how to watch for them.
Jun 29, 2011 21:58
@nhinkle I could write about network security. I'm also going to write something about the Windows task scheduler, I think. maybe this weekend? (sorry the response took so long, I've been busy enough I haven't been at my computer much)
Jun 10, 2011 21:16

Jun 10, 2011 21:16
I forgot that 'contributor' can't edit their posts without approval.
Jun 10, 2011 21:16

Jun 10, 2011 21:15

when I was working Lenovo service, I replaced a guy's trackpoint cap once just because I noticed it was worn... and he wrote back about it. I think it changed his life, he was so happy.

I thought I wouldn't mind because the 15.6 fits in my bag fine, but the reality is I increasingly don't take my bag to class, so I'm looking for a laptop that's lighter to carry on its own.
Jun 10, 2011 05:03
although I'm really looking at the x120e
Jun 10, 2011 05:03
I think my next laptop will be a 14", I get tired of carrying my 15.6" between classes.
Jun 10, 2011 05:02
I think Engadget has been referring to devices in that class as "notbooks"
Jun 10, 2011 04:42
haha. My read-it-later list keeps getting longer. :)
Jun 10, 2011 04:38
thanks. it's a bit long and rambling, unfortunately. well, more than a bit long. hopefully only a bit rambling.
Jun 10, 2011 04:15
Well, and they've definitely gotten thinner and lighter. I just like that they've kept the exact same conservative styling for so long.
