@John cmr10 inputs the same code but with serifs:=true; % should serifs and bulbs be attached? with a few other parameters changed as well, but the two files are just setting 80 or so parameters all the code for all the glyphs are the same.
00:39
@John not at all: it is sans serif because the serifs boolean is set to false. If you modified that file and set serifs:=true you'd get a serif font.
yst 22:14
@John yes of course, cmss10.mf is cm with serifs:=false; % should serifs and bulbs be attached?
yst 20:27
@JasperHabicht Wir alle wissen, dass es auch jeden Text fehlerfrei übersetzen kann.
yst 20:22
@JasperHabicht it must be by definition since I asked google for the longest german word corresponding to an english sentence, and it suggested that. are you suggesting google can be wrong?
yst 20:17
@John google suggests Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz
yst 20:15
@JasperHabicht prompted by @barbarabeeton's comment I looked for tag related tags and the system showed me all the questions tagged untagged, so I tagged them...
yst 20:14
@John well they need some way of putting weird dots over letters and hyphenating whole sentences pretending to be words.
yst 20:09
@samcarter that probably wasn't a 5-day test match
yst 20:01
@samcarter the bbc run a live chat stream which will be open again during the test tomorrow, you should ask.
yst 19:59
@John do you know the game of life ?
yst 19:52
@samcarter did you say cricket ?
yst 19:49
@John but in relation to your question about relation to Germany many tex developments originated there, doc, latex2e, L3, beamer, tikz, koma-script, ....
yst 19:36
@Jasper there are other countries?
yst 19:31
@Jasper no idea, It was in a conference announcement in the newsletter of the london mathematics society that landed in my inbox this afternoon, I don't know anything about it other than that link
yst 19:23
@John that command got renamed: you can use \MaybeStop if the echos of German bother you.
yst 15:48
yst 15:48
@samcarter or...
yst 15:47
@cfr not want but it may be better than nothing
yst 13:47
\documentclass{article}

\begin{document}

aaaaa

\clearpage

{
  \pdfpagewidth=100bp
  \pdfpageheight=100bp
\setbox0\hbox{x}
\shipout\box0
}

bbbbb
\end{document}
yst 13:47
yst 13:47
@JasperHabicht like this where I ship out page 2 as a custom square page
yst 13:37
@JasperHabicht the lines have already been broken by then so changing \hsize isn't going to do much, you need to change the box size (and the pdf media box)
yst 13:19
@samcarter @barbarabeeton
yst 13:11
@samcarter I see you are demonstrating how annoying duplicated text is:-)
yst 13:09
@cfr the description is split into two an "info" and then a longer "wiki" and these edits just copy the info text into the wiki text which means you just see it twice, you see the short version, click "more info" and see exactly the same text
yst 13:02
@samcarter isn't that the one I rejected?
yst 11:58
@daleif I tried googling Fx meaning and got video special effects or currency exchange, both of which I'm familiar with.
yst 11:57
@daleif possibly, but as I say I'm a native speaker (even if old) and wouldn't ever use fx in such a context and didn't immediately recognize it. But e.g I wouldn't even have noticed I would just have read it as plain text. Ask @barbarabeeton :-)
yst 11:44
@daleif because eg (or better e.g.) is used as a standard word and not really thought of as an abbreviation but Fx is a more modern abbreviation from the texting generation, I had to double think what it meant here.
yst 11:36
@daleif eg rather than Fx
yst 11:12
@daleif it looks a bit ugly, a different way would be to not define them directly in the class and just define them with that warning if they are not defined by the time you test for them in \begin{document} that way people can just use \newcommand\fref... in the preamble
yst 11:08
@daleif oh I suppose so I was thinking then you'd keep them but just with a message saying they were gone
yst 11:06
@daleif why not \renewcommand ? but this will break old documents eg achives like arxiv that want to process old documents with a current texlive as far as possible
yst 10:53
@JasperHabicht the box dimensions are not being used to set the pdf page box, which isn't how I remembered it working,
yst 10:52
@Jasper main site is probably better, as it lets other context users know they are not the only one with context questions
yst 10:51
@JasperHabicht I thought the shipout hook was the right place but even if I directly set this before the shipout the page size isn't changed (even if I do \shipout\hbox{aaa} it ships out the small box but with full page size, so the initial page size setting isn't working as i remembered, may look later
yst 10:40
@JasperHabicht hmmm not where I expected
yst 10:24
@JasperHabicht \wd\ShipoutBox=10cm ?
Thu 20:57
@John it's a standard context example from the context wiki I think originally
Thu 20:02
@JasperHabicht same here:-) (and also platex)
Thu 20:01
@JasperHabicht oh you just said what I posted in the overleaf link:-)
Thu 20:00
@mickep ^^ :-)
Thu 19:53
@John "support" as in get help from their support desk or "support" as in, it's installed.
Thu 19:51
@John why can't you use context?
Thu 19:16
@JosephWright I thought all the iftex tests were failing and I'd have a big diff then I realised it just goes to the terminal and not the log (which is weird) so the tests all passed anyway (apart from the ones that didn't for other reasons)
Thu 19:14
@JosephWright ptex now (since it merged with uptex perhaps) writes guessed encoding to the terminal (but not the log) on every file it inputs have you seen that? or know how to stop it?
