I work for a company that sells products. Sometimes we put the products on special. We inevitably get 1 or 2 customers demanding a refund for the difference between what they paid a week ago and the sale price today. We just laugh incredulously at the nerve of these customers and then politely tell them no. It's honestly quite ridiculous to expect compensation for a price change at some later date, and speaks to the incredible sense of entitlement some people have.

Downvoted. It's really not much different from a regular flu. Would you think it reasonable for the boss to make the same request because they "might get the flu"? That's insanity.

Downvote for not even attempting to answer the question. Come on, it's a straightforward question with a valid answer. You could have answered and given the warning.

@joojaa Oh I'm not giving up yet. blender.stackexchange.com/q/163459/41192 But it's definitely pretty tiresome when something seems like it should be so simple and easy but no one else even wanted to do the same thing so there's no help on it.
Jan 13, 2020 15:54
@joojaa Any scripting is hard when you have to sift through a reference for every second line. I've never written a Blender script, except 10 years ago when I tried to make games with it. I could learn for sure but this is feeling like way more effort than it's worth.
Jan 13, 2020 15:54
@joojaa It seems overly complex because it should be overly complex. As in, there should be no reason to have to go to that much effort. It essentially boils down to needing a way to make a mesh in Blender (or C4D) line up based on 3 or 4 empties to another mesh with 3 or 4 empties, where the relative positions will never be quite precisely the same. I only now realise that's my actual problem. The difficulty comes in trying to search for such a thing...
Jan 13, 2020 15:54
@joojaa I have no particular interest in using C4D if I can use Blender, but I assumed this would be something other people do commonly with C4D Lite and AE so I only mentioned C4D. Perhaps you would like to write a more in-depth answer? Because "loop over the objects" doesn't sound like something you "just" do. Unless you are implying I should write a script to do this? But aside from that, that ultimately doesn't solve my problem. I'll update my question to be more specific.
Jan 13, 2020 15:54
@joojaa You seem very confident of this process, but I still don't see how it could be useful. The positions are not animation on their own. Please explain how you would have 3D modelling software interpret a series of positions as animation unless they were already defined as such.
Jan 13, 2020 15:54
@joojaa Well sure it solves the camera positions, but how would that be useful? I'm just not seeing the practical connection. I can't export the camera positions, and even if I could, I couldn't easily turn those positions into an animated camera in a 3D modelling program or After Effects. Plus the results of photogrammetry from video would be far inferior to those from photos, since sharp images give drastically better results.
Jan 13, 2020 15:54
@joojaa I'm not really sure what you mean. I'd still just get a mesh with no particular way to line it up with the camera tracking from AE. As in, I would have no way to get the scale, rotation and position of the mesh correct relative to the tracked camera.

Holy crap this sounds awful! It also sounds like you're handling it really bloody well so far. I wish I could be there to fight for you and show those idiotic execs that they're expecting waaaaaay too much. Edit: I think you underestimate how much pain it will cause the company if you leave. They won't know it until you do, unfortunately, but they will absolutely know their mistake.

I don't drink, but on the odd occasion I've been to a pub with friends they usually just ask for a "four-X gold". It appears to come in single size of glass bottle.

@AlfredCentauri How is it possible for all three ammeters to read a current in your hypothetical situation? There are literally physical gaps in the circuit and the voltage is (presumably) not high enough to arc those gaps. How does current flow?
Jun 23, 2019 13:10
Am I correct in thinking that (perfect) capacitors don't flow current? As in, it all builds up on one plate inside the cap but doesn't cross to the other? And the only way current can flow out of a cap is back out the way it came in? And if all of that is correct, surely adding capacitors in series does absolutely nothing past the first cap? Because current doesn't flow any further than the first cap in the series? So the total capacitance would be that of the first in the line? Or do I completely misunderstand?

@JohnDvorak That's insane. It's an Australian wall socket too, so 240V.

...whether their company has a handbook, so we cannot assume that is the case. And finally, you mention context, but if the OP does have a handbook, encouraging them to report the colleague's behaviour to HR is essentially encouraging entrapment. If nothing else that would be a seriously dick move. I stand by my answer.
Sep 27, 2018 05:49
You say that again, but do you have any evidence other than your own assumptions? I'm not trying to say that definitely isn't the case, not at all, but you seem to think you're right yet you haven't offered any evidence to support that. You also seem to assume the OP is from the US, but they don't say where they're from. The only evidence to support that is the OP's AME spelling of "behavior". Additionally, "virtually all" is not "all". The OP doesn't specify...

Obviously popularity doesn't make me correct. Look at the theory of evolution, for instance. But it means others agree with me, and since workplace answers are relatively subjective most of the time anyway it does add credit to my answer.
Sep 27, 2018 05:36
@DoritoStyle No, it makes your point weaker. You seem to think every company has a handbook, but what reference do you have for that? In my experience, company handbooks are not ubiquitous. Therefore as far as I'm concerned, my answer is grounded firmly in fact. Given mine is the second most highly voted answer with very few downvotes I would say I'm not alone. I will not be removing my answer as I still believe it to be correct (and could I even delete it myself since it's upvoted? I forget the rules for that).

@DoritoStyle What handbook? My company doesn't have a "handbook". I don't actually know what you mean.
Sep 27, 2018 05:36
@DarrenRinger Now I'm curious what sitcom you're talking about...

@candied_orange I think you're being awfully pedantic, but regardless I want to know more about this mars probe. Reference?

Europe? More like "everywhere outside the US".

Aug 14, 2018 08:42
@KonradRudolph It 100% depends where you live or work. It's stupid to assume the internet evolves at the same rate and has the same level of accessibility around the world. If the company has a very limited internet connection (especially if it's data-capped), 100GB of traffic in a few weeks could actually be through the roof. You can't know what their connection is like so it makes no sense to say "should register as a mere blip" or "way out of line with their escalation".

May 3, 2018 08:39
@WordsandNumbers That's a good point to bring up. As humans we have soldiers that kill for a living yet are celebrated as heroes. Thus I think most people would agree that killing is not inherently evil.

Apr 14, 2018 15:39
@TripeHound Ah, I see your point now. Fair enough. I still believe a complex creator God is more likely than raw energy into big bang/expansion simply because the evidence around us seems to me to more strongly support young Earth than old Earth.
Apr 14, 2018 15:39
@TripeHound I'm not sure what a proto universe is supposed to be, nor what your point is. I suspect you're misinterpreting my comment. My goal was not to say "this is why God can exist", my goal was to say "this is why this answer does not demonstrate how God cannot be the first cause".
Apr 14, 2018 15:39
I understand that. I was just explaining what I meant in my first comment, where I mistakenly thought the original question was referring to the Christian God before I read it more carefully. Personally I think it's very simple. God exists outside the universe, and he created it. It doesn't need to be complicated. But that's just my beliefs and I'm not trying to suggest anyone else should agree :)
Apr 14, 2018 15:39
Part 2) However I'm not sure that's a reasonable assumption. Instead maybe what I should have said is that God does exist in the traditional sense, but exists outside the realm of our universe, including existing outside the concept of time. In that context, God is the first cause and doesn't require His own cause.
Apr 14, 2018 15:39
Part 1) Well to be honest I didn't fully understand the question, I just saw it in the sidebar on SO and was curious, and then I read this answer and thought I could comment. I will try to clarify what I meant, though. If we assume we're talking about a standard Biblical Christian God (which I now realise the original question wasn't really, but ignoring that) then I meant that God created everything, including the concept of time. If time doesn't exist, the idea of something coming into being doesn't exist. Perhaps (depending on definition of existence) that means "existence" doesn't exist.
Apr 14, 2018 15:39
The issue with this argument is that God can exist outside time (and outside the concept of "existance", so to speak). It's impossible to comprehend, obviously, but God doesn't need to have been created because creation revolves around the idea of time.

I understand that sizes are relative, but it still seems strange to pick one side or other when it has no relevance to the discussion. But that's just me, it may seem perfectly normal to regular visitors to Philosophy (it's rare for me to venture into this realm).
Apr 13, 2018 07:42
Purely out of curiosity, why did you say "mere 14 billion years" and "puny 550 billion light years"? Those are a very long time and a very large distance, respectively. Just because we're considering the beginning of the universe doesn't reduce the impact those numbers should have.

"Relationships between employees should be built on trust. If they are using public transportation issues as an excuse - this should not be tolerated" I can't get my head around this. It seems to me you directly contradict yourself with your second sentence. If it's built on trust, why are you suggesting being extremely distrustful of your employees?

My first thought upon seeing the title of this question was "The Matrix".

Jul 20, 2017 07:00
@Magisch Maybe I'm just dumb, but what's an MS account?
Jul 20, 2017 06:59
@tripleee Yeah sorry, I meant the userscripts run in the plugin, not that the plugin is the userscript
Jul 20, 2017 06:58
So plugins like tampermonkey
Jul 20, 2017 06:57
Ah, well I just learned something. The term userscript refers to any clientside scripting/injection plugin; I thought it was something to do with SO specifically
Jul 20, 2017 06:56
@tripleee Interesting. I noticed it restarted every time. Is there an issue with having to restart?
Jul 20, 2017 06:55
@Magisch Yeah ok. I assume "tpu-" is something to do with marking a report as true positive, but where does that come from? I don't see messages in this chat
Jul 20, 2017 06:53
@Glorfindel @Magisch That's pretty cool.
