@JimmyJames no, I understood - but I think the question remains as to whether or not an atheist can have any concern over anything after they are dead. Not every theist believes in an eventual nothingness either.

@JimmyJames not after they are dead; they (and therefore any continuing relationship with others) no longer exist.

"these 20 people have "trust" positions (non-union workers)". I think I see a problem with your definition of "trust".

While you would obviously have to consider the ramifications for references, legalities and unpaid wages etc, you should have no concerns about walking out of the job with no notice on the day you find another. On a strictly ethical point, the employer already broke contract, you owe them nothing.

WRT PC World, presumably this article, that makes it clear the trick did work in the past even if it doesn't now. So the internet checking should have worked but at least one of you misread it perhaps? pcworld.com/article/3035017/…

Here's a recruiter who reckons the stat quoted might be a bit of an urban myth. consultrecruitment.co.nz/blog/…

A code generator *may* be a better way to write code, but a private code generator is a sure-fire way to write *unmaintainable* code. Very few commenters and answerers are addressing that point, and just assuming bad faith on the part of the client.

If the client agreed the code would not be maintainable there is no issue; but the fact that they seem to want to read it indicates at the very least a lack of communication early on.

If any dev is creating an application of the sort implied by the majority of people here, they may as well just deliver the binaries.
