Universe Factory

A room for those involved in Worldbuilding's blog and Podcast,...

It's been pretty cold in here lately it seems...
Oct 12, 2019 14:40
@HDE226868 @James Anyone feeling up to being the blog owner? I haven't done a lot stuff for the blog so far and mostly stopped doing stuff on the sites lately, so I am probably not a good candidate for that position...
Oct 12, 2019 14:33
@MonicaCellio I wish you all the best for the future and that all this... stuff... comes to an end as fast as possible!

Jan 22, 2020 11:41
@HDE226868 Thank you very much!
Jan 21, 2020 22:21
@HDE226868 Hi HDE, I have a new story for the Universe Factory. Could you please have a look and unfreeze the chat room?
Nov 14, 2019 22:31
@Gryphon-ReinstateMonica If you got a downvote for every upvote you would have gotten 3 rep so far. After doubling the upvote worth you are now at 8 instead, which is more than doubled.

Also, just for information, someone on the Graphics chat already linked to your blog, so maybe you could leave that message there, too. Though they seem to prefer to not get into the topic too much in chat as far as the Starboard tells and I am not really familiar with the site.
Oct 27, 2019 22:50
@MonicaCellio If you are willing to commission people you could probably ask a few people from GraphicDesign.SE - for example LaurenIpsum is active on Writing and Graphics, doing commission work as far as I remember the profile. Hard to say as currently it's all about reinstating you, so maybe Lauren is not too averse to helping you out a bit / making you an good deal?

@Bellerophon Without StackOverflow and Meta StackExchange though. Those have their own servers. See also chat.stackoverflow.com/ != chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/?tab=site&host=stackoverflow.com CC: @Zucce05
Oct 17, 2019 16:07
Also, good evening (or whatever applies to your current timezone) to everyone!
Oct 17, 2019 16:07
@Gryphon Correct
Oct 15, 2019 18:53
@Bellerophon 503 service unavailable
Oct 14, 2019 20:23
Oh yeah, that ones nice, too.
Oct 14, 2019 20:22
@James I'm proud of you! :D
Oct 14, 2019 20:21
Oct 14, 2019 20:20
Thanks
Oct 14, 2019 20:20
@James TED Talks are always nice
Oct 14, 2019 20:20
@James BTW, it should work with holding down [ALT] and then pressing "1" "3" "2" or "1" "4" "2"
Oct 14, 2019 20:18
@James No problem ;)
Oct 14, 2019 20:17
You can copy one of those if you want :D

Oct 14, 2019 20:17
@James Well, I have a button on my keyboard for that
Oct 14, 2019 19:57
Other keywords you might help you for your search (because I don't know the exact paper you are looking for and haven't found it after a bit of searching): "non-zero-sum-games" and "altruistic punishment"
Oct 14, 2019 19:51
And then something like having the people interact before the game. If you like the other one you may be okay with an unequal split proposed to you, if you don't like the other one you will only accept splits that give you more money.
Oct 14, 2019 19:51
@James Probably a variation on the Ultimatum Game - one person makes the decision how a certain sum of money should be split and the second one can accept or not. If the second one accepts both get the money as per the split, if the second person refuses both get nothing.
Oct 11, 2019 22:12
@Green She is talking about being on her way to her Q4 goal, for which the amount the amount of people blocked is a key Performance indicators - that is pretty clearly bragging to me
Oct 11, 2019 20:50
Oct 11, 2019 20:37
I am also fascinated by the fact that we have a timeline, divided by sites and with visual indicators for "official" and "score over 200" so that people can actually parse the whole story who come to Meta now.
Oct 11, 2019 20:34
The tweet question got locked by the way. It's fascinating how much stuff that is from or about that person needs to be locked...
Oct 11, 2019 20:31
@NexTerren I've seen that one before with the missing feedback from the staff even after being asked to provide a reason for removing that question. But the amount of comments there really exploded.
Oct 11, 2019 20:17
@NexTerren Pretty sure it is at this point.
Oct 11, 2019 20:14
@einpoklum They are "starting to see signs of real progress" and the only visible changes on the network seem to be moderators and long-time contributor being driven away. — Secespitus 1 hour ago
Oct 11, 2019 15:46
Apparently the moderator feedback this time was just used for the public sugarcoating - and disregarded for the stuff that was posted on Meta. Good job, SE! That's how you make people feel like they are being heard and not exploited...

Oct 10, 2019 18:50
@Gryphon Oh, we are already close to 3 digits. Seems like you won't have to wait long for your new avatar
Oct 10, 2019 18:49
@Gryphon Your next avatar could be the pages counter. "11" sounds like a good start, don't you think?
Oct 10, 2019 18:07
@Bellerophon That's pretty hard to know sometimes when people are from countries that don't have English as the first language.
Oct 10, 2019 17:26
If you could get "Stack Exchange Admin" accepted by that site though...
Oct 10, 2019 17:26
@NexTerren Nah, it's only about this little list that was linked here - and the comment is absolutely right, obviously I will always make a grammar mistake exactly once, never twice or something like that. Foreign languages are sooooooo easy to master.
Oct 10, 2019 17:21
@Gryphon Maybe you can snipe a bit on the new CoC? Though that's by far not as impressive so far.
Oct 10, 2019 08:00
@Gryphon You missed your chance. It's at -1531 now. What's the next milestone?
Oct 7, 2019 15:55
@dot_Sp0T Relatable, I am about to start my master thesis while working... looking forward to having this magical thing again in a half a year that people keep mentioning all the time - this so-called "spare time"...
Oct 7, 2019 07:56
@dot_Sp0T How've you been?
Oct 7, 2019 07:49
Also, regarding the new apology: the mods have apparently drafted an open letter in the Teacher's Lounge and some suspect that SE just tried to be faster than them... (it might get lost in the swarm of answers there, so I am placing the link here for anyone interested)
Oct 7, 2019 07:36
@dot_Sp0T Hi, long time indeed
Oct 6, 2019 21:24
Though I have got to admit that this post by the CTO reads a lot better than the other ones before.

@skippy619 If you see something like that ("fiery comment battles") you can click on the "flag" under the corresponding question and then choose "in need of moderator attention". That allows you to write a custom message to the moderators, who are the exception handlers that can for example delete comments, suspend users / issue warnings or lock posts if they are too controversial. Comments are meant to be used to ask for clarification, not for prolonged battles.

If you've got any questions about how the site works feel free to ask. Have fun on the site and good luck with your projects! (Also there are - or at least were - quite a few professional writers on the site.)
Dec 10, 2019 12:28
@skippy619 This room is pretty much asleep most of the time. You can always try to ping a specific user if you think they may be interested (hover over this message for example and click on the little arrow that appears on the right side of it if you are on a desktop PC to respond to me and notify me of your response). And you can always post and hope someone sees it and can help you, but I wouldn't hold my breath ;)
