@user1271772 Yes, I've nominated myself this time around. Not sure if anyone else will but at least there's a backstop and the site won't be removed. I have prior experience of being a moderator on The Workplace, so moderation isn't an unknown experience for me.

@Kilisi Probably need paying I guess!
Oct 29, 2021 10:33
I'm going to need 25 more upvotes in order to be eligible.
Oct 29, 2021 10:32
There's not a huge amount of activity there, but what little there is does seem to be of an acceptable standard (i.e. it's not downvoted crap and off-topic junk).
Oct 29, 2021 10:31
It looks as though the high-rep users on the site don't really see the point of getting elected and are happy to use the basic moderation tools that high rep users have. There's a few moderators who could do, but don't want to. There's also a few guys who would if they have the rep - but there's not really enough activity there to gain enough rep to get up to 300 required. If there's no nominations this time around, the site will be retired.
Oct 29, 2021 10:28
Yeah. I deleted a whole lot of accounts when I left a couple of years back. No way I'll get that back again.
Oct 28, 2021 17:02
@CanadianLuke I've posted a couple of answers there. Hopefully I might make up the rep in time for the election and do something to help the site not go down the pan.
Oct 28, 2021 07:21
Wow, so no one wants to moderate Freelancing. I would do, but I lack the reps.
Nov 19, 2019 17:36
Yeah, things do change, and this community will get over the current problems and find more challenges to deal with. The amount of people here and the differences in culture and personality means that the community will never take the simple, straightforward approach to anything as long as there's an overly complicated and dramatic way of doing it instead.
Nov 19, 2019 17:30
@avazula Thank you Ava. It's going to feel a little weird not having the community here. It's going to be good to have a rest though.
Nov 19, 2019 17:28
@motosubatsu Thanks fella. I'm sure you're going to carry on being annoyingly competent...! :D
Nov 18, 2019 21:37
@JoeStrazzere Many thanks. You’re among some really supportive members of this community, it’s good to see you still doing a great job and not be affected by everything else. I also need to get back to concentrating on work, I have a lot of change ahead of me, and need a clear head ahead of that.
Nov 18, 2019 19:43
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica Thanks. I've pinged you a short note.
Nov 18, 2019 19:24
Thanks mag. I hope so too. I've updated my MSE post. I have no idea when my MSE account will be taken down.
Nov 18, 2019 19:02
He's doing an awesome job of holding the fort and supporting this community.
Nov 18, 2019 19:02
TWP may well be one of the first sites to have an election. The current mood on the sites means that this probably won't be without drama of one kind or another (people just don't feel that the can move on while the Monica Situation is unresolved (that may take a long time, if ever, but people still won't want to move on anyway). Please meet resistance with peacefulness and raise flags or concerns to either moderators or the CM team. Please do what you can to support Mister Positive.
Nov 18, 2019 19:00
Now that I've stepped down from moderation, I've scheduled my account for deletion - in a few days, it'll be gone. I'm doing this because I really need a break and don't want to be drawn back into things again. Deleting my accounts (all of them) gives me that closure. I aim to be away from the site for at least a year.
Nov 18, 2019 15:00
@mag Thanks, that means a lot. As you know, being straightforward and reasonable here isn't always good enough. You're not really part of the crowd unless you have a tendency to overcomplicate things... :D
Nov 18, 2019 14:48
I'd agree with you. The majority of other communities I've been involved with don't have this implied set of do and don'ts, they're encompassed by an umbrella of respect and generally work out ok. SE I beleive if trying to do the right thing, but the intent is buried by the message.
Nov 18, 2019 14:45
I hear you. And the more you care about it, the more it hurts when things go sour.
Nov 18, 2019 14:29
I'm going to be taking a well-earned break by adding *.stackexchange.com to my hosts file and trying to detox myself out of all the toxicity around. Hopefully at some point, the community will heal and progress past all of this. It's going to take a long time though. And I'm sure there's more pain to come yet.
Nov 18, 2019 14:27
Well, I'm still wearing my diamond. I expect that to be gone today or tomorrow at some point. I just wanted to thank you guys for all of the support & understanding, and generally being a great community for TWP. You've managed to escape the madness to a large extent and verry on helping the users - something that we're all here for.

And this has nothing to to with TWP or any of it's community members. The community here (after an understandably confused start to the new CoC thing) has handled itself with the utmost maturity and respect.
Nov 15, 2019 14:12
Sadly, I've decided again to step down. This is nothing to do with Monica, pronouns, the CoC or anything else related. It's just the unrelenting negativity that's apparent on the Main Meta site and within the wider moderation team (not TWP, the rest of them). I've had three months of this now and there's no indication that the wider community or the moderators who support them have any wish to heal.
Nov 15, 2019 10:50
I see what you did there.
Nov 15, 2019 09:44
I've never heard of it before a couple of days ago.
Nov 15, 2019 09:36
I mean "Streisand Effect".
Nov 15, 2019 09:35
@mag That kind of happens when people use uncommon terms to describe things without realising that other people might not know their meanings.
Nov 15, 2019 09:06
@DarkCygnus Good to see you around. Hope you're doing well.
Nov 14, 2019 16:38
We don't have those rules here.
Nov 14, 2019 16:35
I'm not sure we'll even have cubicles - we'll just have standard sized desks, barely wide enough to take dual monitors.
Nov 14, 2019 16:33
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica Excellent find! I've printed it out.
Nov 14, 2019 16:17
And we have no idea who these "more people" are.
Nov 14, 2019 16:16
It's only going to get worse when we get our nice large desks replaced with smaller desks to fit more people into the office.
Nov 14, 2019 16:07
@motosubatsu It's like this every day for me. just behind my desk is a window. Between me and the window are a row of contract project managers who face the window - when they're not talking to each other, they're on teleconference calls. The window of course reflects all the sound back into the room.
Nov 14, 2019 14:57
Nov 14, 2019 14:56
@motosubatsu These ones?
Nov 14, 2019 14:38
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica Joe is pretty awesome in how he supports the site and users without much in the way of fuss. He knows when to walk away.
Nov 14, 2019 14:33
Yup.
Nov 14, 2019 14:32
You'd think. But in reality, people tend to walk away from closed questions because they're "low quality". There's only a few folks who put the effort into getting them re-opened.
Nov 14, 2019 14:29
Nope. Hence removing the example and concentrating on the issue would get better answers here. And possibly question-votes.
Nov 14, 2019 14:28
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica Yep. I know what you're saying there. In cases like this, people can get trapped into answering the programming question rather than the human side.
Nov 14, 2019 14:21
The close reason as chosen by the community seems somewhat misleading.
Nov 14, 2019 14:20
And also many people here are technical and focus on the technical detail rather than the human aspect of the question.
Nov 14, 2019 14:19
I personally think the OP is asking the wrong question. The manager might well be correct but isn't communicating the reason. However, the question itself is valid, but the technical detail in here is distracting.
Nov 14, 2019 13:54
@RichardSaysReinstateMonica Do you know why octopii have eight tentacles?
Nov 14, 2019 13:38
That's because you know everything and don't need to ask so much.

Sep 28, 2021 23:37
What's your role in the project? Are you a Project Manager, or are you discussing this with others who are equal in role definitions?

Mar 26, 2021 11:13
@python_user Edited because code blocks sometimes cause issues - see Do code backticks really have a use on this site
Mar 26, 2021 11:13
How many other developers are actively maintaining this codebase?
