that's a better way of putting it

they can cast sleep, dominate beast, calm emotions, and have an ability that causes everyone around them to be charmed/frightened

at first I was surprised, but then I noticed just how many of the 5e classes are spellcasters of one sort or another

out of five characters, everyone in our party chose something with spellcasting capabilities - 2 warlocks, a druid, a cleric, and a fighter who took the eldritch knight option.

only the demon patron and (I think) only the pact of the blade options, though

warlock is as well

It's a very strange experience having to restrict myself to two spells per day, on the other hand.

it's nice to have a range of spells/invocations, and I haven't found it too difficult to get a handle on everything even though we didn't start at level 1
