@DavidCarlisle However, if you change the suffix, you can save a *.tex even if you choose Plain Text. But if you reopen it, it appears as LaTeX...

@AlanMunn I'm on Windows with VSCode. If I choose "save as" and then choose "LaTeX" I can save with *.tex, *.ltx, and *.ctx. If I choose "TeX" I can save with *.sty, *.cls, *.bbx, and *.cbx.
