A serious place where infosec is discussed PS we don't do hard...

Maybe its because my professional life is all about ordering chaos that makes me not want to do it in my non-professional world. I want to solve problems and keep them solved.

ONI isnt too big brained ... its just never feels like you can achieve stability. Something is always breaking. Its a game where Entropy will always win.
Jan 18 02:12
I mean, honestly ... its not even about making people go broke. Its just about putting a price tag on anonymity.

Companies these days take for granted that people will just give away their information for free and thus abuse the F out of the privilege. Associating a cost would force them to act more responsibly.
Jan 18 00:58
hell, you could prob drop the sub to 10c a month per item and still be raking in millions of $$$ a month if you could enforce it.
Jan 18 00:49
We should turn this disease into a cure ... I am going to start charging a subscription for my personal information. You want my email address? 1$ a month. Phone number? 1$ a month. Purchase history? 1$ a mo per item.
Jan 14 22:28
@ThoriumBR prob will ... though I am not sure what the appeal is for playing skyrim on anything other than PC ... as modding it is pretty much the whole point of the game these days
Jan 14 22:26

Dec 4, 2024 17:21
Learning the ins and outs of AI now is akin to learning google foo 15 years ago
Dec 4, 2024 17:20
@ThoriumBR yah, I hear you ... but take the word "AI" and replace it with "Google" and go back 15 years ... how screwed are you?
Nov 25, 2024 05:51

Oct 2, 2024 14:35
lol, imagine that as a random "patch note" hidden behind a bunch of security updates
Oct 2, 2024 14:18
cigarette companies got away w/ it for years (still do in some cases) ... and nicotine vapes are still very legal in most places.
Oct 2, 2024 14:17
I could see virtual nicotine being used as a form of persuasion ... as evil as that is
Oct 2, 2024 14:16
pain is effective ... but if drug addiction is any judge ... addicting people to dopamine hits w/ some type of mild pain on withdrawal might be the most effective.
Oct 2, 2024 14:15
I dont know ...
Oct 1, 2024 18:17
this is nothing ... wait till they start putting chips in peoples brain and tracking what gives them a dopamine hit when they look at an ad
Oct 1, 2024 18:17
imo, I have a problem w/ data and metadata being hoarded and used ... but free exchange of knowledge and Ideas I have absolutely no problem with.
Oct 1, 2024 18:15

and that being said ... maybe I am a boiled frog ... or maybe I am immune to the heat since I use ublock origin / no script in the browser, dont use facebook or twitter at all ... and overall have a very limited digital footprint
Oct 1, 2024 18:12
AI just allows them to fine tune the knobs
Oct 1, 2024 18:11
I mean ... companies have been trying to do this before AI ...
Oct 1, 2024 17:34
There will be some horror stories ... but great victories too
Oct 1, 2024 17:33
My generation figured it out ... im sure future generations will be fine
Oct 1, 2024 17:33
I mean, a lot of those same concerns where raised when google became a thing ... "omg the info on the internet may be inaccurate ... students should only use books ... wikipedia is evil"
Oct 1, 2024 17:26
looks like he edited a few posts
Oct 1, 2024 17:22
@RoryAlsop I mean ... I feel for the people ... but companies make bad decisions all the time to save money. I for one am ready for shake up. Some large companies need to die ... and new more nimble companies will come from the ashes.

security.stackexchange.com/questions/280450/… is sus ... imo "Exogator" & "AngelDrain" should be added to a blacklist somewhere (I edited them out of the question for now).
