@Standback Yep, you did a good job. It's too bad the revised version of the original question doesn't have any good answers now...
Mar 17, 2016 06:20
I think that I will go horizontal-ate, c u l8r.
Mar 17, 2016 06:19
Well @BESW thanks for everything! I'm not sold on the flat earth idea; it's definitely past bedtime here.
Mar 17, 2016 06:00
Maybe I'll hit that question with a comment before retiring
Mar 17, 2016 06:00
Okay; someone told me that mods could ping anyone.
Mar 17, 2016 05:58
@Standback From what @BESW tells me, it sounds like I shouldn't have questioned a moderator's advice after all. :) I'm headed to bed now, but I wonder if Randomations would like to be involved with the prospective posting of a subsequent, related question. is that something that would be good to ask in the comments under a Q, or by pinging him into chat, or not at all?
Mar 17, 2016 05:48
@BESW Okay, thanks!
Mar 17, 2016 05:40
@BESW Thanks, so it's okay to ask, "Here's what I want to do; how do I do it?"
Mar 17, 2016 05:31
Well, I'm going to hit the hay; perhaps I'll post a Q or two and see what happens.
Mar 17, 2016 05:07
@BESW This is all on-topic, right? I am writing about it after all.
Mar 17, 2016 05:04
Did you know that there is even a flat earth society?
Mar 17, 2016 04:57
What does it take to conceal a MAJOR detail in a novel without repelling the audience?

Mar 17, 2016 04:57
Is concealing major details viable in a novel?
Mar 17, 2016 04:57
Anywho, I was wondering if asking how to carry out this specific course of action (incorporating this plot twist) would be less helpful to others than a question like...
Mar 17, 2016 04:53
Remember my comment that if the earth were flat it would be the same time here as there? I guess I was wrong about that. :) As strange as it seems, our neighbor stopped in last week and told us that the earth is flat! Oh dear! Who'd a thunk?
Mar 17, 2016 04:48
@Standback Thanks for the advice! My view is that the question I have answered will be very unlikely to help anyone else. Would you agree?
Mar 16, 2016 05:02
I think you have an extra word in there though; it reads "...either make tell...", The "make" should go and the "either" could as well.
Mar 16, 2016 04:52
@Standback Hey, I was wondering if you could advise me about my answer to this question you revised (it looks great by the way). My answer wasn't stellar to begin with, but now it's not really geared for the question. Would you think I should revise my answer now?

Mar 15, 2016 01:31
Sorry I accidentally wrote everybody instead of everyone.
Mar 12, 2016 23:27
If singular they were really used, wouldn't it be "Everybody returned to their seat?"
Mar 12, 2016 23:22
Would it be safe to assert then that you are indicating a plural usage of the word "everybody" in this case? For if everybody were singular (e.g. everybody is, everybody's seat, etc.), the rest of the sentence should be singular, right?
Mar 12, 2016 23:09
Well, if "they" shouldn't be used as a singular pronoun to avoid confusion elsewhere, shouldn't it be avoided here as well for consistency?
Mar 12, 2016 22:47
@Sumelic Thank-you for pointing out the singular "you", which is conjugated differently than the singular third-person pronouns. In the singular form of you, the unusual usage of it doesn't affect the nouns in the sentence, whereas in many cases people try to pluralize the objects in a sentence when using "they". Am I wrong?

I'm telling my brother about this resource too, he's the one that got me started in German.
Mar 12, 2016 23:45
I'm leaving for a bit, but I have that link open in a tab, and I've just bookmarked it for future use.
Mar 12, 2016 23:44
Okay, thanks so much!
Mar 12, 2016 23:41
(I meant French figuratively, like the French that English speakers use.)
Mar 12, 2016 23:41
Okay, that makes sense.
Mar 12, 2016 23:40
Thanks for the clarification, are the earlier ones bad?
Mar 12, 2016 23:39
There is a lot of language that revolves around French anymore...
Mar 12, 2016 23:38
Oh.
Mar 12, 2016 23:37
Yes, that is my first choice.
Mar 12, 2016 23:37
I wonder if its being unknown in America has something to do with the fact that we can't even learn to speak English properly.
Mar 12, 2016 23:36
Cool, thanks!
Mar 12, 2016 23:32
Hmmm, I wonder why that is. How did you find out about it?
Mar 12, 2016 23:30
@Jasper Thanks!
Mar 12, 2016 23:29
@Jasper Thanks! I was using Duolingo, but became caught up in doing all sorts of other things about the time they changed the setup on me.
Mar 12, 2016 23:27
@Jasper I would like to learn, but saying that I am trying would be exaggerating the effort that I have been putting into it lately; I guess that I'm still working on my first language.
Mar 12, 2016 23:02
Sprechen Sie Deutsch @Jasper? Ich Fischen?
Mar 12, 2016 18:47
...This is KF7QEZ, out.
Mar 12, 2016 18:47
I think that I'll be stirring the pot later again with that singular use they thing later on, but for now...
Mar 12, 2016 18:43
Yes it is, although Kai is short for Kaidin; I generally go by Kai.
Mar 12, 2016 18:34
My initials aren't so exotic, they're rather bland.
Mar 12, 2016 18:34
I see!
Mar 12, 2016 18:33
@IͶΔ oh! Are those your initials?
Mar 12, 2016 18:26
@IͶΔ Iran! I would ask you what it's like there, but for comparison I should ask whether you've spent some time in the western US, since I've been hardly anywhere else. BTW, how do you pronounce your name?
Mar 12, 2016 18:06
Morning @Jasper! What time zone are you in?
Mar 12, 2016 18:03
Ha, you're right! It's a cheap phone anyway.
