Dec 22, 2018 17:34
thnx
Dec 22, 2018 17:33

Dec 22, 2018 17:33
across the ocean to another domain. #feelsgoodman
Dec 22, 2018 17:33
finally got my first replicated db working
Dec 22, 2018 17:33
hooo my god
Dec 22, 2018 14:06
MS docs mentions it will increase performance... just wondering what factors play into HOW MUCH of an increase it will be... gb size? frequency of transactions and how big those transactions are, etc im sure all play a role
Dec 22, 2018 14:06
how big of a performance increase can result from separating the data and log files?
Dec 22, 2018 14:05
hi all
Dec 15, 2018 03:55
hey.. i appreciate it! :D
Nov 30, 2018 20:07

im BARELY into it
Nov 30, 2018 20:04
cool! cya
Nov 30, 2018 19:57

Nov 30, 2018 19:57
but im starting to focus a bit more on dba activities these days
Nov 30, 2018 19:57
i definitely have too - more so on SO to be honest
Nov 30, 2018 19:48
i just registered for the live class season pass the other day. and the recorded classes. super pumped about it all
Nov 30, 2018 19:47
and i see @sp_BlitzErik - hi there, lol
Nov 30, 2018 19:47
lol, came in here - as im watching brent ozar's "how to think like the sql server engine" - to ask what the general opinion toward brent's training materials were to this group
Nov 29, 2018 20:23
id take hating it over regretting it
Nov 29, 2018 20:23
true
Nov 29, 2018 20:22
haha
Nov 29, 2018 20:19
will i hate it?
Nov 29, 2018 20:19
so - am i going to regret setting up Sql Replication?
Nov 27, 2018 20:35
maybe all the docs are assuming you are renaming a server in which connections have already been made to what will become the old name
Nov 27, 2018 20:34
that seems really weird compared to all the documentation I've read - but maybe also indicates this should be a smooth operation???
Nov 27, 2018 20:33
" any connections that used the old computer name must connect by using the new name." -> well, as far as I can tell the original renaming of the server must have been done before anything else was connected. everything seems to already be using the "new name"
Nov 27, 2018 20:05
and yes, near brussels
Nov 27, 2018 20:05
@TomV all good Tom. they are able to handle anything that happens on site
Nov 27, 2018 19:38
im just not physically there to remedy anything and ill be doing it at about 4am their time - but they have been tipped off and will be ready to firefight if need be! :)
Nov 27, 2018 19:37
that is generally what i'm expecting..
Nov 27, 2018 19:37
got it, that makes sense
Nov 27, 2018 19:32
^ yes that is precisely what I'm going to do
Nov 27, 2018 19:21
good ole "that box"
Nov 27, 2018 19:21
ok cool
Nov 27, 2018 19:21
hahah
Nov 27, 2018 19:18
I'm going to do the fix tonight and both I and my Euro colleague believe there should be little to no other systems effected. hoping that is actually true :)
Nov 27, 2018 19:17
@billinkc can you elaborate any on the "nightmare" that was caused by that server that was renamed?
Nov 21, 2018 15:30
else i would have just done it Lol
Nov 21, 2018 15:30
which, ironically is the cause of me even "asking" to do the replication in the first place
Nov 21, 2018 15:30
and also successfully made them aware of the liiiiiitle servername issue that will need to be solved first ;)
Nov 21, 2018 15:29
@billinkc got the green light to do the replication (this is HQ of course, so i "needed" that)
Nov 21, 2018 03:09
i figured all replication was done physically
Nov 21, 2018 03:09
didn't realize this distinction
Nov 21, 2018 03:09
oh interesting
Nov 21, 2018 02:17
that does that mean? "logical level" and "level of physical log record" ?
Nov 21, 2018 02:17
in reading about database mirroring: "Unlike replication, which works at the logical level, database mirroring works at the level of the physical log record. "
