@NobodytheHobgoblin thanks, using other AL's books seems a nice hack!

Hi all,
I have a question. I'm a (very) inexperienced GM – basically, I ran "Amazing Tales" for my kids a few times (and we all loved it).
Now, I've just finished reading "The Six Bullerby Children" to my 7yo son, and he literally cried because the book ended. I was wondering, why not have an RPG session in the world of that book? It doesn't even have to have real "adventures", a "slice of life" type "adventure" would be enough, I think.
Does anyone know about anything like that? Any advice for me if I decide to try to think it up myself?

I'll store the link to this convo to let you know how it went!

I seem to have some gears spinning in my head now

ty folks
May 26, 2023 18:29
I guess I should practice these
May 26, 2023 18:29
that makes sense
May 26, 2023 18:29
nice
May 26, 2023 18:28
I don't seem to have that creativity spark, but I suspect it's a muscle you can exercise somehow...
May 26, 2023 18:27
how do people come up with those?
May 26, 2023 18:27
now, a meta question
May 26, 2023 18:27
+1
May 26, 2023 18:25
(or: no, possibly)
May 26, 2023 18:25
no, yes
May 26, 2023 18:22
one thing I forgot to mention (sorry) – the "you are in tavern" is probably not the best thing. This will be a game for a 10yo girl, and in that game the characters are also supposed to be children generally
May 26, 2023 18:22
yeah, I gather
May 26, 2023 18:21
ha, Ponyfinder looks pretty interesting, but it seems to be high fantasy – not what I had in mind
May 26, 2023 18:19
@Trish any setting will do. Amazing Tales is a pretty generic and simple system and can handle fantasy, sci-fi, superheroes, (almost) anything. I need a setting which involves horses (so some low-fantasy would probably be best).
May 26, 2023 18:16
@AncientSwordRage, @Trish – you misunderstood me, I'm afraid. I'm set on using Amazing Tales, I just need some inspiration re: short, one-session adventure...

Hi all!
I asked here (a few years ago) about suggestions for an RPG for kids (being a happy dad of a ~10yo daughter then). Someone recommended Amazing Tales and it became a hit. Sadly, I don't have too much time for GMing (once every few months, and I'm very inexperienced - AT was (almost) my first attempt at RPGs), but when I do, the kids (the daughter is now 13 and her brother 6) love it.
Now, in a week I'm going to a birthday party of my goddaughter (she turns 10), and I decided to run a short (~30-45 minutes) adventure for her (using the AT system). However, I'm really not good at inven

thanks a lot! That should keep me busy for a while! ;-)
Aug 2, 2021 05:56
thanks, too!
Aug 2, 2021 05:54
Well, I did that (inadvertently) already - my daughter drew the map, for instance. ;-) Also, the AT book actually encourages this, too.

:+1:
Aug 2, 2021 05:48
ha, looks nice, thanks - bookmarked and copied to my file
Aug 2, 2021 05:46
thanks, checking it out...
Aug 2, 2021 05:46
Of course, the right way to learn something like that is by doing (and that's what I'm going to do anyway), but any hints are appreciated, too.
Aug 2, 2021 05:40
Well, AT is a very simple system (the rules themselves fit one A4 page in pretty large font). My main issues are (in no particular order): (1) adventure ideas (though this is somewhat mitigated by TV Tropes ;-) and using my daughter's interests), (2) being able to react to what's happening pretty quickly, and - perhaps most importantly - (3) thinking something up when my plans and (more or less linear) plan gets derailed.

Hi all, a very beginning/inexperienced GM here (well, I haven't played as a player, either). What resources would you recommend to a father of 11yo daugther who wants to play "Amazing Tales" with her? We had 2 sessions already and it was great, but I feel I could do much better. I'd need help both with coming up with adventure ideas and running the game itself. Any books/blogs/podcasts/YT channels worth checking out? (Also, an almost 5yo son might want to join in some time.)

Thanks again! Now I'll think before I go to sleep (it's almost 2am here...)
Feb 2, 2020 00:35
Wow, thanks. Looks good, though I guess I'd need to fill in a few/a lot of things. But you made the little gears in my head spinning. Thanks again!
Feb 2, 2020 00:30
(And actually sounds like something written for TPK!)
Feb 2, 2020 00:29
Sounds like a good beginning!
Feb 2, 2020 00:25
any examples? That would probably help the most ATM..
Feb 2, 2020 00:25
Actually, I guess your answer is good, and you don't have to apologize at all - I understand it's going to be work. Fortunately, it's going to be fun as well.
Feb 2, 2020 00:24
And are there any examples of adventures written by other people on the internet?
Feb 2, 2020 00:20
and (c) probably I'm just seeking an answer to the question "if I'm a beginner and so is my kid, and we're going to play 1-on-1, and I'm going to have to think the adventure up myself, is there any chance for us to have a good experience or should I just give up?"...
Feb 2, 2020 00:19
Never mind the system in itself - I assume that if I have an adventure for system X, I could try to adapt it to system Y - what I really need is (a) examples and (b) source of inspiration

Thanks! Definitely English, and not summarizing 20+ episodes - just the main storyline. I'll think about it, thanks again!
Mar 24, 2021 11:16
WDYT?
Mar 24, 2021 11:16
but I'm wondering if this site isn't a better place
Mar 24, 2021 11:15
up till now, I just asked on SciFi.SE, where I could find people familiar with this particular show,
Mar 24, 2021 11:15
(not the whole synopses, of course, but still a lot)
Mar 24, 2021 11:15
asking on the site has a disadvantage of having to explain a whole lot of context - aside from that being a massive spoiler for anyone not familiar with the show, I might have to summarize what amounts to one or two dozen of episodes of background
Mar 24, 2021 11:14
and once in a while I stumble on something idiomatic I don't quite understand
Mar 24, 2021 11:13
here's the thing: I'm translating subtitles for a tv series (non-commercially, and I do not distribute them except for some friends)
Mar 24, 2021 11:13
(and by "right place" I mean either the site itself or the chat)
Mar 24, 2021 11:12
I'm wondering if this is the right place to ask my question
Mar 24, 2021 11:12
Hello everyone!
