Feb 7, 2021 03:44
yeah, just dont wanna fry my $250 mobo or cool new fan, you know?
Feb 7, 2021 03:44
the only forum I could find was LTT and they seemed nonchalant about plugging it in backwards
Feb 7, 2021 03:43
So, I got some monster LED strips that use that same connector, so I assumed that they were the same thing as the Aura RGB. The manual for the Monster strip said that plugging it in backwards would fry the LEDs
Feb 7, 2021 03:43
it gives a 404 now
Feb 7, 2021 03:42
bwahahaha the Asus Aura link in that article has died
Feb 7, 2021 03:41
The article popped up after I posted my comment lol
Feb 7, 2021 03:40
OK, I was guessing that, but how can I confirm that aside from trusting you? I couldn't find a spec page anywhere.
Feb 7, 2021 03:40
@Salocor Yeah, the motherboard manual and board itself tell me where 12V is, but I got nothing on the fan.
Feb 7, 2021 03:40
@Alex_Krug Clearly you didn't RTFM, or even RTFQ because I even said that I read the print and digital versions. Which page addresses my question?

does makerbot have some bugs going on with Thingiverse, or have they stopped supporting Firefox? I've noticed some websites lately are going Chrome-only
May 15, 2019 17:14
I had an initial active phase and then it dropped off, though I did design a few things in OpenSCAD a few years ago.
May 15, 2019 17:14
@Trish 1. Yes. 2. Depends on the source file, but usually yes. 3. No, I've spent much more time tinkering and calibrating than printing. #3 is part of my nature, but dovetailing into @DanHulme's question, I find that a lot of stuff freely available doesn't print so well, thus requiring me to fix it or design it from scratch. And when I started in the hobby in 2012, there wasn't quite as much going on or available.

I'm setting up a pi to be a network share, and can't seem to rename the drive in teh GUI. There's a rename command, but it fails, so I think that means it's sudo time, but idk how to do that on the command line. Why can't the GUI just work? uhg

I need about 9001 more XP and a few more levels in Linux to appreciate all of that.... usually I just rage that tit's easier on Windows. In this case, I'm working with LUbuntu 19.....disco?
Dec 3, 2019 03:19
in another IRC channel, someone reminded me I can just sudo featherpad to launch the editor as root
Dec 3, 2019 03:18
ok, I will add that to my notes.
Dec 3, 2019 03:10
featherpad, not leafpad, my bad
Dec 3, 2019 03:09
I'm new to LUbuntu, and I need to mess around with a policy kit so that I can change my wifi adapter. I don't know how to use VIM and on top of that it doesn't work. I can see the file and open it in the GUI, but can't save it because leafpad was not opened with root privileges. The root account is disables, and I need to add "atomicpi" to the list

It's time to rebuild my pfSense box, and I see that they talk about 2.5 being released almost 2 years ago, but only 2.44 is available on the download page. Am I looking in the wrong place?
Jun 11, 2019 18:38
@JourneymanGeek no, not really. Google is more like a stalker ex girlrfiend.

I got a free Aerohive AP230 for helping clean out an office. The specs look awesome, but I saw on Amazon something about a serial and MAC being stolen. Does this hardware require a subscription for some kind of service or is other wise a brick?

@Bob it's doing it with Firefox 52 ESR and YouTube videos for a couple days. I click to pause and it still keeps going. When the video is maximized and also just in the page. It's doing it right now and was about to ask a question here when I saw your reply.

Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy is there a clippy in the chat? >.<
Sep 10, 2019 16:24
Windows 10 adds a click when switching windows, presumably to help users not click on things accidentally. You'll notice it if you are multitasking and click in a different window, like a browser, and that click should have done something. Instead, it simply selects the window. Is there a name for this antifeature? How do I turn it off?

Nevermind, I confirmed it on the Veracrypt documentation. While you can install it in Linux, the system encryption feature is Windows-only. Newer Ubuntu installations will give you the option to set up FDE ont he system drive if you blow away the current partitions and data. I'm trying that now.
Aug 24, 2019 00:25
I'm about to install Ubuntu on a laptop, and started looking at FDE, mostly Veracrypt since I'm mostly a Windows user. I've seen people on superuser and this SE say that veracrypt doesn't do everything on Linux. Can Veracrypt do FDE for a linux install? I'm not clear on that; most of my info is coming from dual/multi boot questions

@Izzy thanks! Turns out the camera was doing something when the filesize got over 4GB and when windows would try to read it, it would then lock the card until you ran a chkdsk, and then I could grab the file. I could get VLC to recover the video, but not the audio. Since i was able, I just re-recorded the stuff. Found a site that would have recovered it if I paid them $14
Aug 20, 2019 14:23
what is the URL to Izzy's lists website? I'm looking for some software to pull an mp4 off a corrupted SD card and wanted to check if he had a category for that

What kind of software can I use to make LinkedIn play nice? I usually use Firefox or a clone, and LinkedIn bogs down the browser, consumes 200 - 600mb of ram per tab, and just sucks. Should I look into limiting the RAM per tab, or wrap a browser in a VM or docker container?

I figure this is probably too complicated/nuanced for a question, but is it normal for people to hold contracts closely like that?
Jun 25, 2019 15:19
I've always heard that you should take a contract and let a lawyer read it over first. I'm too poor to have a lawyer though, but I'd like to read it.
Jun 25, 2019 15:19
I've never done freelancing before. I asked for a sample of their usual contract and they said they don't send out samples due to confidentiality reasons, but they would send me a contract (for me) later today. The first part seems weird. I attended a legal seminar once that refused to let me take a copy of the contract to review. I was once given a similar run around by a car dealer: no contract to take and read.

well, the problem is that I don't know too many of those sorts of sites. A few weeks ago I vetted apkmirror

Just came across this apk site I had never heard of apkmodmirror.com. Is it clean, or will I get infected? For reference, I consider apkmirror.com to be clean

1 pay period in arrears is fairly common for non-salaried work in the US. Also, it's common to have a ~2 week pay period (biweekly or bimothly).
