Wonder if the voting fraud script will reverse this...

This is the main issue with the question.
Mar 1, 2019 12:49
Hi, do you have any sort of evidence for this being mythological rather than a SF trope? The obvious point of reference for me is RA Heinlein's short story "Universe". This may do better over on SF&F. — Spencer Feb 23 at 16:15

@bleh Eh, three "Leave Open" votes in review. Don't see this one getting closed.

Plus, some of the OP's comments were borderline trolling, which may had something to do with the quick deletion.
Oct 7, 2019 12:28
Your example question, other than being off topic, shows no prior research effort at all. There's little value in keeping it around, as the answer doesn't add anything to what you can very easily discover with a quick Google search.
Oct 7, 2019 12:26
@BradC In theory, all closed questions may eventually be deleted. In practice, there isn't much value in deleting well-defined and well-received (but off topic) questions.

Q: Dear Stack Exchange: a statement and a letter from your moderators

ArtOfCodeDear Stack Exchange, Inc., We know you know about this already, so we'll keep this brief. The past two weeks have been rough. Lots of moderators have lost confidence in you; for some, it was the final straw. For many of us, though, we like being here and we don't want it to get to that point. So...

@jpmc26 On second read, I'm convinced. Deleted. I was hoping the post notice would make a difference, but it was ignored.
Jul 12, 2019 12:54
Hm, now that I think about it what I remember might be a mod-only thing.
Jul 12, 2019 12:52
Was it? I missed that. There used to be a mods ping (one that wasn't advertised) in chat, but perhaps I'm misremebering something.

Jul 12, 2019 10:04
@MartinSleziak Now that you mention it, I don't remember a related feature request (except the one you linked to). But... it works, I got an inbox notification for your "mods" message.
Jul 12, 2019 08:53
@MartinSleziak Typing "mods" does the trick
Jul 12, 2019 08:53
@jpmc26 Yes. There's nothing wrong with using chat to coordinate content curation efforts.

@DVK-on-Ahch-To It seems that the downvotes you got weren't targeted. Apparently the voter just happened to (up|down)vote a ton of old stuff (by different people) around the same time. My guess is that your posts showed up together in a search or two.
Oct 13, 2018 14:28
Looking for better sources is a good thing.

@DVK-on-Ahch-To It's HuffPost. If it happens to be accurate, it's by accident.

@Demonblack Fair warning - we don't tolerate being an ass to anyone on this site, for whatever reason.
Oct 7, 2019 17:48
That is not to say that I don't find the influence someone on Twitter (who isn't even a SE user) had over SE completely ridiculous.
Oct 7, 2019 17:47
@Mindwin "muted" is a very strong word there. Taking the site off HNQ isn't necessarily a bad thing - if I could I'd drop the feature alltogether.

@WGroleau I wish it was as simple as that. Unfortunately, there are more than two sides to this story...

@Joe Without going into detail, Monica did not "only asked questions". No one is claiming that, not even her. That is not to say that she was treated fairly, she definitely was not.

Sep 16, 2019 06:13
The History Channel? I guess questions about ancient aliens are on topic then @TomAu. On a more serious note, if your only reason to vote to close a question is that it might be better suited elsewhere, then I'd urge you to stop. That's an abuse of the privilege, and we gain nothing by closing down questions that can be sufficiently answered by historians.
Sep 16, 2019 06:13
@TomAu I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "accepted" history. Accepted by who? I don't disagree that this isn't a great question, but I don't see how it's off topic. Even if it's indeed better suited elsewhere, that doesn't make it off topic.
Sep 16, 2019 06:13
How is this off topic for History.SE @TomAu?

@amon Yes, in this instance two of us are stepping down. I recently became a dad, and time is extremely limited.
Mar 1, 2019 14:35
@amon I can understand that, but I feel we should give the community a bit of choice. All three of you would be excellent candidates.

Solznetsiyn didn't "escape to the West". He was deported to West Germany. Also not entirely sure what you mean by "he was dropped like a hot potato by the West". He spent two decades in the West and returned to Russia only after the Soviet Union was dissolved.

Q: Revisiting the "Hot Network Questions" feature, what are our shared goals for having it?

Tim PostSome things happened yesterday that caused a need for us to (quickly) remove a site's eligibility to contribute to the list of hot network questions. For those of you not familiar with what we've come to call the 'HNQ' list, please visit the link; the list of questions shown as 'hot' on stackexch...
