@Mast This is the same manufacturer & model, they just changed IC's internally from 2->3, so some of the programs we have to migrate from the 2000-series don't work out-of-the-box on the 3000-series without some modifications. Nothing major, just an inconvenience.
Dec 23, 2024 12:45
@pacmaninbw Yeah, and unfortunately they changed the memory layout in this version, went from big-endian to little-endian.
Dec 20, 2024 12:07
@Mast Unfortunately the old ones are out of production and getting expensive, and the new ones are substantially more improved anyway. Just a matter of figuring out all the potential pain-points

Boss: "copy this project from <old PLC> to <new PLC>"
Me: "Alright"
Me: *some time later* "So nothing works, all the state bits are backwards. Looks like one is little-endian, and the other big-endian. Also, the region of memory used in the old PLC version is completely inaccessible in the new PLC."
Boss: "That sucks..."
Dec 3, 2024 19:22
@pacmaninbw Looks like the comment from last week didn't get converted to an answer yet, I really don't want to have to do it...
Dec 3, 2024 15:47
I probably need to go dig through the GRUB docs, and see if I can find what I need there
Dec 3, 2024 15:41
Anyone here ever have to modify a linux-based OS for self-startup branded platforms? We're trying to determine how easy it is to put our logo in the bootloader, and have the system only show a GUI after starting the application we want
Dec 3, 2024 15:34
Problem is it's a business line so I can't just have it reject all unknown calls
Dec 3, 2024 15:27
I have 13 spam calls today from the same telemarketer, and they keep switching phone numbers too.
Dec 3, 2024 14:14
@Reinderien Fortunately I don't have to deal with those, I was able to get out of dealing with the quaternions too, though I think that will only last for a small bit yet
Dec 2, 2024 18:07
Wrong Unity, that's my bad. I meant the piece of crap Ubuntu UI
Dec 2, 2024 17:59
@Mast Wait what licensing riot?
Dec 2, 2024 16:55
I've decided quaternions are a PITA
Dec 2, 2024 15:25
I'm busy reading about quaternions and it's a mess
Dec 2, 2024 14:22
Am I the only one here who can't stand Unity? I find it impossible to get what I want out of the system
Dec 2, 2024 13:48
Monking
Nov 27, 2024 13:53
Yeah the PLC controls it all here. We don't engineer the electricals unless it's something simple.
Nov 27, 2024 13:49
PLC's are just OOTB platforms, Yaskawa MP3300-series or Allen-Bradley / Rockwell ControlLogix
Nov 27, 2024 13:49
Define "CAD", because right now I'm thinking of the Computer Aided Drafting software and no, it does not interface with that at all
Nov 27, 2024 13:47
Generally, the PLC is the controller, the Windows PC is the HMI
Nov 27, 2024 13:46
Depends. We have a Windows CNC program that we use to control everything if it gets a CNC, otherwise it's all just the PLC.
Nov 27, 2024 13:44
LTSpice, we just order the parts once it's been simulated to work as designed
Nov 27, 2024 13:41
Ours is all glass processing equipment, so it's pretty straightforward. My work is primarily Yaskawa & Allen-Bradley PLC's, and Schneider HMI's.
Nov 27, 2024 13:38
Also do some electrical circuitry work for certain aspects of our applications. (I.e. if we need a cheap step-down transformer for a lightweight DC device)
Nov 27, 2024 13:37
Most of my work is PLC's, HMI's & CNC's, I do a little .NET stuff for specialized applications yet.
Nov 27, 2024 13:37
Not really, I am a manufacturing automation controls engineer for an OEM, we build machinery we then ship & install on customer sites
Nov 27, 2024 13:34
Funny enough, I was literally setting up a VM to test some .NET Core stuff on just now.
Nov 27, 2024 13:31
I have a late 2015 iMac 27", still runs well enough for what she uses it for
Nov 27, 2024 13:29
My wife took mine, and my old job took theirs back, so me either lmao
Nov 27, 2024 13:28
I played with Swift a few times, was neat, but had no functional applications for me.
Nov 27, 2024 13:28
Yeah, I never spent enough time learning the Apple App Model to make use of it
Nov 27, 2024 13:25
I never used CLion with Qt, but I did use VS Code on Mac for a while. I prefer the IDE's more than the text editor
Nov 27, 2024 13:23
And DataGrip
Nov 27, 2024 13:23
Yeah, I still use Resharper, IntelliJ (puke), CLion, and Rider.
Nov 27, 2024 13:17
You should mention that to the commentor, and if they don't write an answer about that part by Monday then I will write a new one (or add it to mine)
Nov 27, 2024 13:17
Security, I added a note about using Navigation properties in my answer
Nov 27, 2024 13:12
There's even a comment on it right now that could be easily made into a strong answer
Nov 27, 2024 13:12
I mean it has a lot of low-hanging fruit (even still), but it's structured somewhat incomprehensibly
Nov 27, 2024 13:09
@pacmaninbw Looks like I had the only answer to that question. :(
Nov 25, 2024 13:00
First post in the last 4 years lmao
Nov 25, 2024 11:26
@pacmaninbw I do today, definitely didn't yesterday
Nov 17, 2024 16:36
@skiwi Yeah, that’s…odd
Nov 15, 2024 13:39
Was at a customer site the last few days working on fixing some program issues, I need to have a talk with one of our guys about writing decent code. He made the biggest, ugliest block of ladder just to add a few numbers and move them into a couple registers.
Nov 12, 2024 16:39
Yeah, makes sense.
Nov 12, 2024 16:37
Yeah, that’s what I was just thinking. Separating impedance
Nov 12, 2024 16:35
I’m curious what the answer intended with the last op-amp before the speed output, I suspect it’s an isolator.
Nov 12, 2024 16:26
I have a suspicion that graph is assuming a perfect op-amp
Nov 12, 2024 16:23
Not that one, but I need to look at it too. I was looking at the +/-10V AC Drive one
Nov 12, 2024 16:21
@Mast Unrelated, have you looked at that featured question with the opamp circuit?
Nov 12, 2024 15:23
I engineered the entire product from the ground up, we use Modbus (or Ethernet/IP) to talk to PLC’s with the data
