Sir Cornflakes

Jan 11 14:05
It is about artlangs in phantasy and sci fi.
Jan 11 14:04
For conlangers in Germany and neighboring countries, this conference looks very interesting:

@Vir What your system of moods is concerned: It looks OK at the first sight from your rather abstract description. From the number "15" of the combined moods I deduce that the order of the particles doesn't make a difference.
Jan 7, 2023 16:56
@Vir What traffic is concerned: I see the presence of some usually silent lurkers here when I step by. I'm myself not really a chatty person and look here from time to time but I post rarely.
Jan 4, 2023 09:04
BTW, IN this chat it is OK to ask for opinions.

@Vir Don't know which meta board you have in mind, it is definitely not the meta of this site. Can you add a link to it?
Nov 28, 2022 17:10
I have just changed my username on the network to something more leightweight than just initials. There is no recent change in the moderation of this site, just a name change.
Sep 5, 2022 11:30
BTW, at the moment of this chat post, there is only one conlang represented as far as I can tell: Esperanto. I checked Klingon, Interlingua, Laadan, Lojban and Toki Pona and got no hit.

I'd like to alert you to this project by the well-known sculptor Vera Röhm:

https://www.vitabuvingi.de/?page_id=3604

The goal is to obtain translations from 2000 languages of the world of the above statement: "The night is the shadow of the earth". I by chance met the guy who collects the translations, Eric Giebel. Please contact him, if you think you can provide/obtain additional translations. The languages covered already are listed here:

Bonan novjaron!
Dec 31, 2018 14:23
A happy new year everywhere!
Dec 30, 2018 15:55
Hat fashion: I just noticed that the prferred hat on the main site is the Merlin hat. Conlangers like wizzards, don't they?

Sep 25, 2023 21:36
German has two words, Mensch is the usual word for human, but Mann ist "man, male" only. Also, the usual classical Latin word for "man, male" was vir, not homo.

Jan 21, 2023 13:43
And Ruhlen's proto-world root *tik "finger" is also dangerously close to the tickle words ...
Jan 21, 2023 13:43
It means, of course other branches of IE. BTW, -lamak is a suffix in Turkish and not part of the stem, see en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D9%80%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%85%D9%82, so there's no genuine l in the Turkish forms.
Jan 21, 2023 13:43
But sound laws (Erste Lautverschiebung) Germanic k-t corresponds to Slavic (and other branches) g-d. English tickle is interesting on its own, see en.wiktionary.org/wiki/tickle
Jan 21, 2023 13:43
Onomatopoeia is a strong confounder of etymological relations. BTW, the Slavic word is also related to Germanic kitilōną (German kitzeln, Icelandic kitla) en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/…

@blademan9999 Well, but the elusive $^3$He will just dissipate into space since the Earth's gravitation cannot keep it from escaping.

A happy new year to everyone (it is already new year in Australia and New Sealand)
Dec 21, 2018 22:46
I am not really chatty usually, but I frequent chat rooms during hat season.

Dec 31, 2018 17:15
@Draco18s You can get a star here, but no hat (because this chatroom is not connected to a site)
Dec 31, 2018 15:34
Thanks again ...
Dec 31, 2018 14:38
In my hat collection member of a hand is still missing. My bid is german.stackexchange.com/questions/48526/… (Attention: It is in German)
Dec 31, 2018 14:18
Thanks to the unknown upvoter!
Dec 31, 2018 14:12
Still one vote away from the Freehand Circle ... meta.stackexchange.com/questions/319846/…
Dec 31, 2018 13:42
Hey, a happy new year everywhere!
Dec 30, 2018 17:45
Yes, or very chatty, that's the way the hat was originally discovered
Dec 30, 2018 17:43
@Riker ... but something must be the same for the 15 comments, therefore is works very well if all comments are on the same question (including its answers)
Dec 30, 2018 17:41
The vote is cast presumably by another user, not by yourself
Dec 30, 2018 16:06
@DavidPostill Probably, tho' the details are yet unknown (How many are necessary? Timing conditions? Additional votes or other activity on the edited questions?)
Dec 29, 2018 18:34
Maybe the edits should be permanent (i.e., not rolled back or changed again for a certain time)?
Dec 29, 2018 18:30
@Vickel The clean-up hat has something to to with edits, probably tag edits. It deos not seem to matter whether the questions are old or new. There is probably some other ingredient in the hat that is unknown (receive an upvote after editing at least once?)
Dec 29, 2018 18:15
@Vickel Great :-)
Dec 29, 2018 18:07
This is my bid for the Freehand Circle: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/319846/… unfortunately too far down in the list to catch more votes?
Dec 29, 2018 18:04
@NinaScholz Waffles is for commenting a lot (15 comments) on one post; details (like a time frame or additional requirements) are yet unknown.

Dec 22, 2018 23:45
@AlexanderO'Mara Deleted comments spoil the hat
Dec 22, 2018 16:52
@Glorfindel: This should not work, first the association bonus is only 100, not 200, second I think it must be really earned reputation like in the Brunhilde hat
Dec 22, 2018 15:06
@Eran There is even one user who earned it on a single site, scroll upwards in this chat to find it.
Dec 22, 2018 14:38
@Randal'Thor And the design fits it, too
Dec 22, 2018 14:34
My current hypothesis is get 1500 (15 is a magic number in hatology) of total reputation on the SE network. Only sites with more than 200 rep gain count. Time frame is not yet clear, maybe it is the whole Winter Bash which will make the hat accessible to many more users to come.
Dec 22, 2018 14:33
That Eliza Doolots is for getting a lot of reputation
Dec 22, 2018 00:16
Impressive amounts of reputation per day ...
Dec 21, 2018 16:57
@Dylan Did it work?
Dec 20, 2018 10:53
#Waffles: Obviously 15 comments on one question (comments may be deleted) are clearly a necessary condition. The other ingredient is probably that you also have a post (either question or answer) in that question. Probably this post also needs some positive score.
Dec 18, 2018 14:21
Finally managed to get Waffles by chatting a lot.
Dec 17, 2018 14:27
Answer questions of newbies that cannot upvote yet.
Dec 17, 2018 10:15
No, the Guru for the question itself
Dec 17, 2018 10:13
Stating a fact: This post is close to a Guru badge (not for myself, just for the site): linguistics.stackexchange.com/questions/14438/…
