ok, after following more googled directions for single user mode causing that broken dialog box, i fixed that problem.

something is really wrong with this instance. i'm trying the run sqlservr -m from a command prompt, and all i get is a broken dialog box

@MaxVernon good point. i definitely did get it switched, because the log is not growing anymore, and the app is still running.

the problem was originally presented to me as not being able to USE the database from SQLCMD, so it didn't occur to me until now to try configurmation manager so I could enable TCP and use sql management studio instead

and now i can configure it for TCP and connect with SQL management console

i tried to launch the configruation manager and got an error. looking that up, it looks like there used to be a 64bit express instance on this machine that was uninstalled

i have tried the -m option. it lets me connect, but i still can't access the database. thinking as i type, maybe i'm missing a step. am i supposed to grant myself access, then restart the service without -m?

ok, how about this then. i have a 3U server i'm sending off to a colo. it has 2 ethernet ports on it. i need something to combine those ethernet ports into a vpn tunnel on a single ethernet cable to the internet. i don't have access to the OS, but i can open the case. i was considering putting a mikrotik board inside the case.

if this is just a one-time thing, you can use a filter to view just the rows you want to delete, delete them, and then clear the filter.
