@JBH I can pretty clearly explain how I'd judge an answer (and have added this to the question). What new transportation mode is used by the largest percentage of the population on a regular basis? Doesn't seem story-based to me.
Oct 29, 2024 19:52
@Asking for the "biggest" change was an attempt to make answers semi-objectively judgeable

@JBH I spent a lot of work trying to keep this narrow in scope and I'm asking about the biggest change to urban transportation in particular. How is this high concept?

I really didn't intend the "future technology" detail of the question to be a sticking point. Future technology isn't a key aspect of the question, but merely a justification for interstellar travel, hence my attempt to say "the future is like the present, just marginally better"

@John Can you point me to some references on the rates solids sublimate in a vacuum? That's one of the main "corrosion" mechanisms I'm looking for.

@jdunlop Added clarification: the ship exhausted it's power (no explosions)
Jun 23, 2023 06:58
@GaultDrakkor Added clarification: the ship is adrift in interstellar space.

You can buy one of the vibrating north belts for a mere €2,300: feelspace.de/en/received-a-sat-nav-belt

@hszmv Cats are great in real life. In this situation, they don't help since they can also be a vector for vampirism. Disease that can be carried and spread by any mammal is one that's going to wipe out a pre-vaccine humanity. Could hit livestock too. Yikes!
Nov 8, 2022 02:28
You've made spread by animals overpowered. This problem reduces to a rat control problem, which is hard with modern technology and impossible with medieval technology

@IgorG the purpose of the inner door is to keep the contents of the sealed room in good condition. It's the Swiss Cheese Model of engineering
Jul 12, 2022 18:52
@0x263A Interesting idea; want to flesh it out as an answer?
Jul 12, 2022 18:52
@Spratty It's an interesting idea. I've added the clarification that "it should be fairly obvious that it is meant to be opened". If you can solve that, this could make a good answer

just amused at the carnage. i thought the original post was good

Nov 26, 2014 02:21
i'm not sure if I have a solid formalism for it yet
Nov 26, 2014 02:21
it's interesting to think about
Nov 26, 2014 02:20
AP would not be like "You can't do that yet; I haven't passed priority"
Nov 26, 2014 02:19
ex. if NAP erroneously said, "Ha ha, I lightning bolt you for the win"
Nov 26, 2014 02:19
and even so, if someone decides to skip priority, no one else would complain
Nov 26, 2014 02:19
in order for priority to matter, we need to have both players equally eager to jump
Nov 26, 2014 02:18
yea, but basically in all of this situations, whoever jumps first loses
Nov 26, 2014 02:16
we're still in "rare and bizarre situations" territory
Nov 26, 2014 02:16
Skyscribing, i presume
Nov 26, 2014 02:15
why wouldn't the player that drew bolt first use it right away?
Nov 26, 2014 02:15
unlikely situation
Nov 26, 2014 02:13
but surprisingly hard to create a situation where it happens
Nov 26, 2014 02:12
it's a compelling application of the priority rules
Nov 26, 2014 02:11
but if NAP were first to go, they would try to use bolt for the win and be foiled by growth
Nov 26, 2014 02:11
and be foiled by bolt in response
Nov 26, 2014 02:10
(or at least try to)
Nov 26, 2014 02:10
your claim is that they would use growth for the win
Nov 26, 2014 02:10
if AP is first to go
Nov 26, 2014 02:09
can only target creatures
Nov 26, 2014 02:09
use Electrostatic Bolt
Nov 26, 2014 02:08
lightning bolt to the head
Nov 26, 2014 02:07
jk
Nov 26, 2014 02:07
nope
Nov 26, 2014 02:07
2 life vs 2 life
Nov 26, 2014 02:07
it's declare blockers
Nov 26, 2014 02:07
AP has attacked, NAP has blocked
Nov 26, 2014 02:07
NAP: 2/2 w/ Lightning Bolt in hand
Nov 26, 2014 02:07
AP: 2/2 trample w/ Giant Growth in hand
Nov 26, 2014 02:06
Let's simplify the example
Nov 26, 2014 02:05
same course of events
Nov 26, 2014 02:05
NAP responds with pro black
Nov 26, 2014 02:05
if AP goes first, AP plays murder
Nov 26, 2014 02:05
NAP responds with pro black
Nov 26, 2014 02:05
then AP plays murder
Nov 26, 2014 02:05
so if NAP goes first, NAP passes
Nov 26, 2014 02:04
(obviously respond to murder with protection)
