Why do you want to continue working in the company? Not trying to criticize or anything, just trying to understand. What would you see as an optimal outcome?

I think any answer depends on whether you are still being paid or not, and whether the company owes you any money.

@SolarMike "If they wanted you to sign that then it should have been done when all the paperwork was completed as you resigned." > this means to my eyes that new contracts are signed as part of the resignation process. The time to sign contracts which govern resignation procedures should be before the person gets the job.
Apr 12, 2020 09:55
@SolarMike I don't think anyone can be forced to sign a contract as they or after they quit. Slavery is illegal, you can't refuse somebody's resignation just because they won't sign a new contract. The contract should only have be signed as a condition of getting the position in the first place or in return for something.

Is there a data protection or consumer protection agency or equivalent in your country? Could you make an anonymous complaint to them? Also, I hope your username isn't your real name.

Were you harmed? Was there damage done to your clothes? Was it done as a joke, or as an attempt to cause harm? Could it have been accidental? How "funny" or harmful was the meme? Was it a crude attempt at a joke, or an attempt to hurt the other person's feelings? Could the meme have been considered harassment?

There is never a way to make everyone happy, and any attempt at doing so will be so bland that nobody will enjoy it.

Would you consider working for a firm that deals with DRM? Somebody who writes cracks might be desirable as an employee, and the pay could be better.

Might be an opportunity to start gunning for the manager's job.

Dec 4, 2018 05:19
Seems that this is a question that can be answered by asking some of the people involved.

Have you told the other guy that you're not interested in talking about his nonsense and to annoy somebody else with it?

Oct 2, 2018 01:39
@GePeace pretty sure no company can fire you for refusing to drive a deathtrap.

Aug 24, 2018 23:12
I just think it's funny that this is getting a fair few downvotes - is it really controversial to admit that many if not most people imbibe alcohol on their holidays and that they won't be too happy about being expected to do work on their holidays? And to actually be honest about it?
Aug 24, 2018 23:12
@eMBee if your boss fires you because they're that infantile, I'd be pretty sure they'd be doing you a favour... Besides, acting as if it was a joke was only half of my advice.
Aug 24, 2018 23:12
@eMBee you'll get over your anger. The point is that it is unreasonable to expect people to be on call during their vacation time. It's like you expect employees to not be angry that you are demanding they limit their activities in their free time due to your inability to get by without them, but you are too precious to have your feelings hurt by a disagreement or misunderstanding.

@EngineerToast who said anything about a week-long binge? just say you intend to be going to beach parties or champagne lunches or something.
Aug 24, 2018 23:12
@EngineerToast it's my holidays and I will spend them however i like.

@DobQuiKong I've heard stories on a forum where a business management type was brought back for multiple hours-long "interviews" with a company where they were given a "hypothetical scenario" in front of senior management and asked to develop a marketing strategy while the secretary took notes.

Often times the first people to notice a missing person is their work colleagues. Usually police forces will carry out a welfare check to make sure somebody is ok. Then again, she could be on holidays and her manager is the only one who knows about it.

@BenMz relying on a technology stack that eventually nobody will be able to maintain is also a disaster waiting to happen. It's not "throwing knowledge away" either if programs are being constantly updated.
Jul 6, 2018 23:29
@xDaizu sure, my cousin's husband does exactly this for a major bank in the UK. The issue is that there are only ever so many positions available as the pool of companies which are using these antiquated technologies are slowly shrinking. Eventually companies reach a tipping point where they are forced to update and upgrade their systems, and then the services of these niche developers are no longer needed. When that happens, you no longer have a marketable skillset.
Jul 6, 2018 23:29
@LeopoldT then guess your out of luck and will have to keep hoping their will be sufficient numbers of people specialising with your aging tech stacks to adequately support your business. I guarantee that will not be cheap.

INR is the Indian Rupee, so looks like India.

It's possible to get away with that attitude in the US as the odds of working with the same person again is fairly low as its such a huge country. Here in Ireland, a small country, it's probable that you will come across people you've worked with in the past or acquaintances of them again and again throughout your career. Cultural differences can be at play as well - we love to hold grudges, nurturing them for years or decades, even passing them on to future generations.

Jun 11, 2018 23:05
If you've already quit, why do you care if they fire you? The situation is ridiculous.

May 12, 2016 06:20
@munkeyoto "You stated he logged in without credentials." that is not stated in the question. All that is stated is that there was no prompt for the end user to allow the IT support person to access the computer remotely. Don't assume that this means that there was no authentication done by the IT support on their end. But I guess this is irrelevant since the OP seems to have gotten the answer they wanted to hear.

@Mustang is funny that as more points are brought up regarding your initial claim, you keep changing your answer.
