I'm really disappointed by the answers to this question. I'd classify every single answer here a joke answer. Nobody seems to be actually trying to answer the question as posed.

Will M. is right on the money. Unilaterally forcing the group into a combat only he wants, undermining what everyone else is trying to do, and attacking another PC are two huge red flags. You suggest that he's just acting in character, but that's exactly what MGS is, ruining other players fun because it's what your character would do. That is of course in addition to him trying to limit another player's options in a manner you describe as aggressive and hostile.

Well, tested out RangeCollection, and it looks like it works pretty well
Oct 28, 2016 21:58
then find the value in stringTableHeader that's closest without going over
Oct 28, 2016 21:57
Alright, yeah I see what you're going for
Oct 28, 2016 21:53
and then you'd have a method that was something like:
Oct 28, 2016 21:52
I think I do
Oct 28, 2016 21:52
oh, wait
Oct 28, 2016 21:51
no, I'm not sure I follow
Oct 28, 2016 21:51
hmm
Oct 28, 2016 21:43
But that article I linked looks promising
Oct 28, 2016 21:42
Ranges unfortunately, otherwise it'd be easy
Oct 28, 2016 21:42
Yeah
Oct 28, 2016 21:41
txtResult = hittable[RollDie(20)];
Oct 28, 2016 21:41
and sometime like
Oct 28, 2016 21:40
20,crit hit
Oct 28, 2016 21:40
10, tie
11,hit
Oct 28, 2016 21:40
1, crit miss,
2, miss
Oct 28, 2016 21:40
so I'd be looking at having a table like:
Oct 28, 2016 21:39
That's what you'd display to the user
Oct 28, 2016 21:39
Well to use your example, crit miss, miss, tie, hit, crit hit would be the return values
Oct 28, 2016 21:37
Yeah, that'd work but then you need to map the indexes to the result
Oct 28, 2016 21:34
For example, how many jump gates in a system : JumpTable = { 26, 66, 79, 89, 92, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 };
Oct 28, 2016 21:33
That worked well when the value table just returned and integer instead of a string
Oct 28, 2016 21:33
A solution I used previously was enums
Oct 28, 2016 21:31
Yeah, data structures are something I wish my classes had covered better
Oct 28, 2016 21:30
Oct 28, 2016 21:30
I found a blogpost about implementing a range list, I'm reading now
Oct 28, 2016 21:29
Yeah, that's my backup plan
Oct 28, 2016 21:21
Ok, yeah that makes sense. I was hoping for an pre-existing solution, but it doesn't look like there is one in .NET
Oct 28, 2016 21:12
trying to figure out the best way to store
Oct 28, 2016 21:12
Yeah, that's what I'm looking at
Oct 28, 2016 21:11
I'm not trying to take user input
Oct 28, 2016 21:11
Oh sorry, no that's not actually what I was talking about.
Oct 28, 2016 21:08
Basically, yes
Oct 28, 2016 21:07
The easiest solution I can think of is just an array that duplicates values
Oct 28, 2016 21:06
i.e. 1-4 sunny, 5, cloudy, 6 rainy
Oct 28, 2016 21:05
The problem is with non-uniform distribution
Oct 28, 2016 21:05
Yeah, I've got randomization
Oct 28, 2016 21:05
I'm writing a GM assistants tool. Rolling on tables is something that comes up a lot obviously.
Oct 28, 2016 21:02
Any other programmers in the room? I'm trying to work out the best way to simulate rolling on tables?
Aug 6, 2015 20:12
Realm Works is very disapointing
Aug 5, 2015 19:21
Thank you for the offer
Aug 5, 2015 19:16
Hmm I wonder if SafeSearch filters gore...
Aug 5, 2015 19:16
I did get one. I was looking for a higher quality one, but was turned off by all the gore.
Aug 5, 2015 19:02
Why is it that doing a Google image search for bear caught in bear trap turns up almost no images of bears in bear traps, but tons of images (mostly grotesque) of humans in bear traps?
Aug 4, 2015 13:45
Wow. D&D 5e knockout rules are extremely generous.
Aug 3, 2015 19:47
Hmm I am concerned by the sweetness I am tasting while eating Cheezits...
Jul 30, 2015 21:23
@BESW Okay, thank you.
Jul 30, 2015 21:20
Actually I have a question. Is it considered bad form to @ someone who isn't in chat?
