@Huy Thanks, I think I'm just going to have to memorise those statements and apply them as opposed to understanding it as false positive etc. I don't see how rejecting a hypothesis is a false positive since to me positive would be accepting a hypothesis.

I'm struggling to see how this scenario is a False Positive though as our hypothesis was correct and we rejected it. Whereas surely a false positive is where we accept a hypothesis that is incorrect??

Hi everyone, I'm having trouble getting my head round Type I and Type II errors. I understand Type I is false positive and Type II is false negatives. The part I'm struggling with is how the judicial example follows this. For instance if we say "innocent until proven guilty" then our hypothesis is "This man is innocent". If he is actually innocent and we reject this hypothesis then from what I have read this is a Type I error...

Hmmm I think I've just worked it out actually!

Not a bad idea in the past I have just wrote brute force programs and left them running until output but want to learn how the maths to make my future attempts better :)
