I just realized that I (and all previous mods) were still listed as owners.
I don't think that should have been the case, so I removed myself together with the old mods.

Local start-up did an oopsie:
lost control (unclear exactly how) of their blimp and as a consequence the airport (that was downwind) got closed for a few hours.
airport is not happy.

fully agree.
that's also why I try to find the original, don't want to reward click-baity behaviour

quick terminology question: when having an equation with a plus/minus sign (think the quadratic solution), how can I easily refer to the version using the sign on the bottom?
Is it ok if I say "lower solution"? Or should I explicitly refer to it as positive/negative?

@PolyGeo ok, thanks. will polish it and ask later/tomorrow

I am having an accuracy issue.
Given point A and B on the WGS84 ellipsoid, I solve the indirect problem.
Given the indirect problem solution, if I try to find B from A, I end up a couple hundred meters off (AB geodetic distance being about 335km in my case).

I am using Vincenty's formulas given in http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/PUBS_LIB/inverse.pdf

Of course this comes from the truncation of the series.
Can I ask if there are better/more accurate solutions around?
Should I ask on the main site, or is this off topic for the site?

this feels more like a physics thought experiment rather than something related to aerodynamics.

you should also edit this one to be only one of the 7 questions, so that is can be reopened and the others are not duplicate of this one

This question is similar to: Arc Length of an Exponential Function. If you believe it’s different, please edit the question, make it clear how it’s different and/or how the answers on that question are not helpful for your problem. — Anne Bauval 28 mins ago

can someone explain me this? how is parametrization and arc length computation equivalent? why is that question being suggested as duplicate?

@JourneymanGeek we do, yes

I asked the technicians for their input, and they suggest to simply compare the runtime of our code

@bertieb no worries, thank you anyway :)
Oct 18, 2023 10:52
@bertieb thank you, but they do not seem to have any PowerPC unit :(

@JourneymanGeek thank you. I'll have a look, but if it is over your head, I'm afraid it'll be over the head of the people I have to talk to :/
Oct 16, 2023 15:38
I'll try searching again
Oct 16, 2023 15:36
fair, but I don't need that level of detail
Oct 16, 2023 15:33
sure, but to simplify (i.e. ignoring the different OS), running the same code will take longer if you can only do 10 operations per second vs if you can do 1000. I'd like to have some real values instead of "10" and "1000"
Oct 16, 2023 15:29
if you want some backstory: I need to convince people that have no formal nor practical education or experience in the CS field. And I need to help them visualize (with actual values) that the performance they get on an i7 can't be the same they get on a powerPC.
Oct 16, 2023 15:03
this chat channel seems to be somewhat active, so I am asking here (I'd ask on the CS.SE channel, but the last message there was 90 days ago)

I need some numbers to quantify the difference in computing power between different CPUs (across very different architectures)

Where should I ask "how to do that"? I am not asking for someone to make the "ranking" or give me the numbers, but how to get such numbers.
I guess one would compare the Flops? Are they published anywhere? Or people compute flops by other means?

@Randal'Thor unfortunately the space available is shaped with 2 in the vertical direction. In terms of details, I could have details down to 1/240th of one short side for this project.
Apr 13, 2023 16:56
@Randal'Thor hi! not too bad, thank you. bit stressed with job hunting

@b_jonas oooh, that's a good one
Apr 13, 2023 13:14

yeah, not the best for what I had in mind, but I did not think of that yet, thanks
Apr 13, 2023 11:41
I hope it is ok to ask here.
I am looking for a sci-fi (adjacent) building/craft to replicate in minecraft for a project of mine.
Ideally it is something with proportions close to 1x1x2, with the "2" being the height.

For the moment I have considered a WH40k necron (doomsday) monolith, but I'd like to hear, if possible, other alternatives.

thanks
