@Seth when i use a question to solve my problem i vote. as such i'm more likely to vote on the server and overflow sites than here. just giving you my reason.

any of Ask Ubuntu's esteemed mods online?

12:31 AM
eh nevermind, fixed.
thanks to jrg via irc xD

@FEichinger BORAT INTERESTED IN IDEA AND WISH SUBSCRIBE TO NEWSLETTER!

@FEichinger - how are bib shorts for cycling out of stock. They cannot, I repeat CANNOT be THAT popular.

Ewwww! 11.04 disks are still here!

HALP CAPS HALP

@FEichinger accidental capslock

12:37 AM
I thought it and neglected to say it.

@CallmeV Don't ask me.

@CallmeV: only in M
@FEichinger: caps for effect.
;p

I'ld be interested in a messenger bag and a subscription to mailed optical disks for x period of years for new releases if they were raffling either (both inexpensive to raffle and meaningful from a community engagement perspective)
Just saying. Don't raffle something expensive to produce or generally useless.

@CallmeV Oh, that "suggestion" was just in reference to the ridiculous item and price.

herpderp. okay. my guess is that it's made out of some material that costs money and the target market is people that have loads of money to blow.
one should be paid to wear that thing for advertising...just saying.

12:42 AM
heh
now, this is something i'd like.

@CallmeV Honestly, I wouldn't wear it, even if I were getting paid for it.

nice little fashionable cap to promote ubuntu silently

yes, it's a nice cap. i saw someone on the metra in chicago with a messenger bag. i've never seen one with the cap. i'ld wear it though.
@FEichinger fair enough. i ride a bike on a daily and live on a new budget so...money is money.
i wonder why nobody has implemented fhss (planned channel hopping) for consumer hardware with a simple-ish wireless client(and server) 802.11 non-standard extension...

1:01 AM
also, this needs a download link. youtube.com/watch?v=KjSpi1vu-ts

@JourneymanGeek I should gimp him into that...

1:11 AM
@TheLordofTime Where did you contact jrg on IRC???

probs freenode #ubuntu or #ubuntu+1

Probably...
/sidenote: I personally fine the Canonical store to be expensive...

me too

I bet Jorge could get us discounts :P /joking

@Seth secret. it is a secret.

1:16 AM
it's silly to expect people to pay more to advertise your product. let's face it ubuntu is a product. debian is a service. just saying.

@TheLordofTime Should have known.
@CallmeV Point++

if i didn't have a point i wouldn't say it... just saying.

Well not everyone is like that ;-)

understand.
also. chrome/chromium should have a shortcut to kill a page. f5 to refresh. f7 to stop, they might and i just don't know it

Q: Easiest way to setup Ubuntu as a VPN server

Sorin SbarneaI know there are many tutorials on the net for setting up VPN client and server. I you find one that is simple/short please put a link, I am interested only in the server part. For client, I will use OS X so I prefer a solution that uses L2TP over IPsec or PPTP because I suppose Cisco IPsec wo...

(now that there's two additional answers that work)
(mine is there, it net me +500 :D)

@TheLordofTime I wouldn't mind if it gets blasted...

2:54 AM
that is the only surviving copy, it has been purged from my system.

3:10 AM
@mateo someone needs to submit that for SE community ads ;p

@JourneymanGeek and immediately get someone slapped. It also won't work because E:WrongDimensions

@TheLordofTime: one of those things can be fixed ;p

Q: krusader - single queue instead of multiple queues

muzzamoI need to copy a whole bunch of files from various directories onto an external drive. I thought Krusader might be the best tool for this job. As I select and copy different files, a new queue keeps being opened. On Mechanical drives this is not ideal as it causes the hard drive heads to thras...

10:47 AM
yup

And, we have a plan for getting Ubuntu installed on the new laptop:
Unbreaking the Windows cheating

Make sure you're not going to get a boot fail because of the hiberfile cheating:
http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3152/~/disable-windows-8-fast-startup-(hibernate-file)
Control Panel, Power Options, Choose what power buttons do, change settings that are unavailable, Untick Turn on fast startup

Disable Intel SRT(hardware cacheing to SSD) and Fastboot/quickboot(boot time cheating)

See if you have uefi mode enabled
msinfo -> bios mode
If legacy do step 4 then skip to step 7

Anyone have any thoughts? askubuntu.com/a/308800/5768

Too much booooold.

Sorry, we don't have a treeview collapsable widget...which is what I really want.
if you think numbering is better feel free to change it. i was just trying for easily visually parse-able tree structure

Q: Is there a reason #, ##, ### tags are bold instead of just larger fonts?

Call me VReasoning: I want to make an easily visually parse-able answer. I can add bold tags if I need them, but I can't remove them if I don't. Should the heading markdown really be bold or just larger fonts? If I can make h1,2,3 that are larger text and add bold as desired, I might not get complaints...

Now I'm forever marked on m.SO. Awwwww. :(

You're fine. It's a legit complaint.

I know. :P

11:55 AM
ooh dangermouse is back ;) o/ @foss

hi ya.

do you know if there's a way to make larger fonts without bold in markdown?

just use a # or ## etc - is that what you are after?
oh I see

hehehe

your meta.

11:59 AM
o/ @fossfreedom

it's not complaining, i just want to fix it if I can.
and i agree that much bold is ridiculous.

use sparingly IMHO - best just for the titles.

@fossfreedom fair. I'm just trying to find a way to fix it.

nope - my google-fu hasnt revealed anything. Nothing about this in the markdown bible (daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax)

i know it's a problem with markdown. i thought maybe since SE is a relatively heavy hitter if they announced a ;,;;,;;; operator or something it might take hold

12:09 PM
ok - bbl - going out for lunch.

/me is going to work very soon. i'm out for a while too

Q: D-Link DWM-156 HSPA USB Modem doesn't work with SIM Card inserted

Aneesh NeelamI have a D-Link DWM-156 HSPA Modem, that I bought just a few days ago. The modem has drivers in its internal storage. There are Debian Software Packages for both i386 and amd64, so obviously I installed the amd64.deb using Software Center: 3g_modem_connect_D300_amd64.deb . Then manually, I did: s...

@seth, great find!

:)

@Seth do you mind if I put your find into my answer? (and then the info from the OP about the make of the router into the question as well :-))

Of course!
There isn't anything I can do to stop you, nor do I have any right to try ;-)

Well you could have said you want to do it yourself :-)

8:22 PM
hey, thats a good line - is that new? "Please avoid extended discussions in comments. Would you like to automatically move this discussion to chat?"

@guntbert No it's not new.
It's been there since I've been on the site.
I wouldn't use it though since it creates a room without an owner..

@MarcoCeppi: This is odd... bayes.ondina.co has the wrong time. It's out by about 3.38 minutes :P
I've confirmed this with a number of other time servers across the web to make sure it's not my machine.
On my machine:
$ date -u
Sun Jun 16 22:18:48 UTC 2013
On bayes.ondina.co:
$ date -u
Sun Jun 16 22:15:24 UTC 2013
Honestly, I've never seen anything like that before. I only discovered it because synchronizing content with timestamps wasn't working.

Q: Getting wmctrl to work with multiple Emacs windows

Patrick Brinich-LangloisI'm trying to write a script that switches focus to Emacs. This is what I have: #/usr/bin/bash wmctrl -a 'emacs@pat-ubuntu-desktop' It works fine when there is only one Emacs window (or "frame," in Emacs parlance) open, but it doesn't do anything when multiple Emacs windows are open. The probl...
