Q: Creating a User-less Distro

TheRyan722One of the popular programs I use is GParted, and it has its own custom distro, that boots straight to the desktop, and starts the program. I couldn't find any information on creating such a distro. I need it to be where I can install packages of my choosing, just without the user system. Is this...

@mateo i'll try it and give feedback
@FEichinger I don't see reversal happening on AU
just saying...

3:09 AM
@FEichinger I just hate how they're like "You aren't using this right! Lets just take it away".. especially when it's mostly SO that's not using it right.
This is totally awesome. I wonder if it will ever support Linux..

Where are all the voters?
And why are my questions going unanswered, unvoted, etc...
Site is active, but feels dead O_o

I agree with you.
Things just don't seem to be really happening..
BTW, long time no see @RolandiXor :D

3:51 AM
@Seth hey :D
I've been busy busy busy with work :P

How is the book going?
@RolandiXor Having (lots) of work is a blessing :)

It sure is :)
@Seth writing is slower with a high workload :S

That's what I figured.. :-/
Catch 22 here.

But, regardless, I've been putting in a feverish pace of writing when ever I get the time.

@NathanOsman: it's ok, we don't either.

@RolandiXor It feels like we're losing answerers. Askers? We got a ton of them. But answerers are pretty rare now.

@FEichinger if they were interesting questions I would ... but 99% of Qs aren't :/

wow. 1% too many

@fossfreedom That's true as well. We have a lot of Qs where it's either "Wha ... Why?", "sigh That's gonna take a while." or "Yeh, I think we got a dupe somewhere."

Q: What is Mir and why is it important?

SethI've heard a lot about Mir lately. It seems to be a big thing in the Ubuntu community. What exactly is Mir and why is it so important? Will it affect me?

Q: How is Ubuntu/Canonical organized?

SethUbuntu is a big project that has a lot of community involvement over many different aspects. How is the work on Ubuntu organized and who organizes it?

They both have answers, but neither one it stupendous.
There's even a bounty on one.

@fossfreedom same here. I can't find anything worth the time to answer, or anything that isn't some fringe case that no one knows the solution to.

Q: Can we reopen this "bug report" that isn't being fixed?

ShepI found a question relating to an issue I'm still having with my power manager in xubuntu 12.04. One of the comments hinted on how to work around the problem, but the question had been closed. The reason given: it "should be filed as a bug report". A bug report was apparently filed, it's gone now...

hello friends!
I just dropped in to remind you that I am offering a fat bounty on the following question:

Q: BCM 4313 proprietary driver blocks WiFi for other devices

t kounI run a home wlan and a few days ago I upgraded a hp dv7 pavilion laptop from Oneiric to Precise. I had the proprietary Broadcom STA driver (wl module) activated. Whenever this laptop was connected to WiFi had speedtest.net result of 8 Mbps (down) and all other machines (laptops, smartphones) co...

There is just one day left, and no answers so far!
so if any of you has some acquaintances who are good at troubleshooting WiFi, let them know about the reward that awaits the one who answers!

8:41 PM
@RolandiXor And then when you do answer no one votes...
@RafałCieślak I don't have Broadcom :-/

8:55 PM
Does anyone regard as useful?

9:14 PM
@NathanOsman dear Canadians: I really like your tv shows.

9:28 PM
@mateo I second this.

@mateo: Which one?
Incidentally, here is a screenshot:
That's from the 2buntu app.

@guntbert

@Seth: so the sensible thing to do is to remove that tag from all posts?

Yes.

9:47 PM
@NathanOsman Continuum is the latest. ReBoot was another. The Re-Inventors is another one i like. Cant even remember all of them, but I keep seeing them all over.

@guntbert I would stop now.

@RafałCieślak I did drop a comment ... no reply from you :/

We don't want to flood the front page too much.

@Seth, ok - didn't think about that effect :-)

Yeah..
We have a feature request upstream:

Q: Moderators should be able to remove / burninate a tag themselves

slhckWe're doing some spring cleaning on Super User, which involves disambiguating tags, merging them, creating synonyms etc. However, one of the most troublesome things is removing a tag. Often, it's easy enough to agree that a tag should be burninated completely, possibly even blacklisted. But the...

10:01 PM
@Seth, this tag is on its way down - only 33 left - I'm gonna spread it over a longer time from now on

Yeah, I'll try to help too later.

meta.stackoverflow.com/a/184567/210342 <-- Upboats everyone. Upboats.

already done.

Oh intresting. So sometime this week it will change? I think the hold idea is nice.

Yeah, but getting rid of TL is not

10:17 PM
So.. waht do we do with abandoned questions?

Exactly. At least, that's one reason.

rephrasing "Too localized" is a very good idea™ though

@Seth No, that's bad.
We use TL for abandoned questions because we use TL as a dump for everything we have no reason for. (Which is part of the reason it's getting removed to begin with - people misuse it)
TL does not necessarily apply to abandoned, closeable questions.

Ah, tablet typing is hard.

@FEichinger Uh, yeah I know.
But then, there is no easy way to get rid of plain ridiculous questions.
Or too narrow
or abandoned
or whatever.

10:25 PM
Downvotes...

Downvotes.. are... slow.
Besides, closing a bad question prevents bad answers, if someone answers a bad downvoted question suddenly it won't get deleted for a lot longer.

but effective for abandoned with no answers.

Not really.

do we still have the auto delete system?

10:29 PM
@mateo We do, but like I said, any activity on the question prevents it from getting deleted.

You know what ... We should have SE and Canonical hold an AU contest, focused primarily on getting answer rate and vote rate refreshed.

more T-shirts!

Something like raffling out these fancy things to "active users", yeh. :P

I mean, seriously, when even our moderators are lacking motivation to engage in the site ... That's just plain bad.
This month's reputation board has only 2 people exceeding 1k - and we're half-way through the month already.
The league sees nearly no change in reputation - In fact, me losing 96 rep still gained me a +537 rank change.

You have very good points.
And only 11 people who have cast over 1000 votes all year.
Users like this make me angry.
They criticise very openly in harsh language and won't even take a suggestion themselves.
A may go so far as to say a nice suggestion..
