@LoganM So they made it, hm? Guess we'll see how Open Data does in the "real world". I'm curious to see if they'll even be worth watching.

@Eric I was pretty sure after the podcast that Open Data was going to make it. Not necessarily because they deserve to, but because SE employees were pretty disappointed with both Big Data and Arduino failing, and at that point they'd be likely to pass any borderline cases. Network Engineering passed very quickly. Open Data took a little longer, but there was never any real doubt that they'd make it.

@LoganM That's sad. We shouldn't be passing sites just because SE is disappointed with failure rate.

@Eric I didn't say that they would have failed otherwise, but I'm pretty sure Network Engineering would have stayed private for 2 weeks, and Open Data would have been more borderline.
Anyone want an invite to Freelancing.SE? Nothing really interesting to post so far IMO, but they have 15 questions and 1 meta question.

I might've been interested in Freelancing a while ago but it's not currently interesting enough for me to invest any time in it. Blender might be a different story.

Q: What happened to Gyro?

hxhIn the anime, they showed Gyro's back story then a clawed up chair. Was he killed or was he eaten? It wasn't clear what happened to him.

Does anyone here have a good memory?
Maybe @Krazer? :O

@Eric maybe, depends on where

3:28 AM
@Eric I have good memory, but not a good memory.

Can someone explain why this question was closed?

Q: How far along is the One Piece anime compared with the manga?

Ricardo ValerianoI'm Brazilian and I'm having a hard time locating the manga. I'd like to know how far along the anime is compared to the the manga, or if the anime will give spoilers to the story (in the manga).

@Krazer I think there was a discussion that it should ask "How far is episode X in the manga?" instead of "How far along is the anime compared to the manga?"

I don't get why that's closed either. "Too localized" is definitely weird.

I feel like "Too localized" is a terrible close reason for that, though.
@Mysticial I don't remember how good my memory is.

It seems reasonable to ask how much of a gap the anime and manga have
@Eric that's bad

3:29 AM
@Krazer Yeah, I think it's just because the OP provides no reference point. The answer will be immediately outdated.
@Krazer Is it? I can't recall...

If answers have a reference date I think it's fine... as of X the series is Z chapters off with P being fillers/original content

I agree. But from the PoV of the closers, I can see why they would want the question, rather than the answer, to specify timeframe.

@Eric yes, could be lacunar amnesia

@Krazer onoes
Wait, what's that again? D:

@Eric exactly

Q: Are there any non-Japanese manga/anime authors or studios?

EricManga and anime famously originate from Japan, and the vast majority of the big names in manga and anime are Japanese; Hayao Miyazaki, Hideaki Anno, Hiromu Arakawa, and Masashi Kishimoto come to mind. Outside of Japan, I can really only think of one creator who had their work become an anime/man...

@LoganM @Danalog @Dimitrimx @iKlsR @AjoKoshy can you clarify your reasoning behind closing that question as "too localized?"
this question was locked by the Community before it was closed
@Mysticial why would the Community auto lock a question?

@Krazer Migration.
Or red-flag deleted.

Don't unlock it.
It was migrated here then closed.
That means the migration is rejected and it becomes unlocked on the original site.
IOW, it goes back to the original site.
So it gets locked here to prevent it from being unlocked on both sites at once.
oh wait...
It's deleted on the original site.
So it's safe to leave it unlocked here.

3:42 AM
Yup.

@Mysticial that's why I unlocked it xD

@Krazer is one step ahead. ありがとうございます!

dammit :)

@Eric 如何致しまして
@Mysticial any reason to why it got auto-locked just now after it has been migrated... back in February?

@Krazer A migration is "rejected" when it gets closed on the destination site.

3:52 AM
@Mysticial ah that makes sense

@Mysticial In what time period following the move?

@Eric Immediately after getting closed.
Not when it is migrated.

But you said "closed on the destination site"
That implies it is closed after it is moved.

@Eric correct, when a post is migrated, it is duplicated to the destination site and locked on the source site. If it gets closed on the destination site, it gets locked on the destination site and unlocked on the source site.

Interesting.
@Mysticial It's 60 days that a question has to be up before deletion doesn't affect rep? Or 90?

Q: What is a vocaloid?

xjshiyaI don't really understand what a vocaloid is so, what is a vocaloid? Is it an anime? If not, how is it related to anime? Is it a singer? If so, is it a real person (because someone told me that some are but mostly are just machine-created voices)?

Q: Why do anime characters have official birthdays?

xjshiyaWhy do anime characters have official birthdays? Why do they decided for the anime characters to have birthdays? Does this have a historical basis? And when exactly is a character's birthday decided? Is it when a character's physical appearance is drafted? What is the birthday's significance?

8:59 AM
@Krazer that Eva strip is amazing :D

@Krazer @LoganM and I had debated that the specification between of specific point both in anime and manga should be made in the question
otherwise, in order for it to be accurate, the answers would have to be constantly updated
basically, the question should be phrased differently

Q: The tag "visual novel"

looperAh, the old topic again. First, anime and manga were forbidden, then they were allowed again. Or should ques...

@JNat is mad with power!
Everyone run!

5:35 PM
@Krazer Too localized close description mentions that the question is only applicable at "a specific moment in time". That's not really exactly what I wanted, but none of the close reasons are perfect here. In any case, as @JNat said, the problem with it as of right now is that the answers need to be updated.
If I had caught it before the 2 new answers were posted I would have edited in what time the question was asking about rather than closing it. However, now that new answers have been posted, it's impossible to edit the question and make it more specific without making some of the answers correct, so it's better to close it.

@Eric lol, not really

@LoganM That seems reasonable. Next time, if possible just leave a comment explaining why.

@JNat That's what you want us to think, mhm...~

@Krazer Will do

5:56 PM
Something needs to be done about this question. At the very least retagging (to what I have no idea), but I'm not even sure the question itself belongs here.

@LoganM I had noticed the tag too, but was also unsure as to what to retag it to

@JNat What do you thing about a tag?

@LoganM the thing is that, as you said, IDK if the question belongs here

The question could be rephrased to belong here.
And not lose its effect.

@Eric How?

5:59 PM
@Eric ok, and after that, then maybe a tag would make sense

@LoganM Relating it to anime specifically; instead of asking "is it an anime", ask "I have heard that many anime use vocaloid", and perhaps even linking to our previous vocaloid question. That more-or-less makes about the relationship between anime and vocaloid and still allows it to be answered as a "What is ..." question.

We do have one other vocaloid-related question, so I think a tag could work. The problem is that we definitely aren't taking every possible question about vocaloids, which a tag would tend to imply.

@LoganM yes, with that I agree

@Eric I'm not sure that's really any different from the existing question.

@LoganM If that's not acceptable, then we have a lot of questions to close.
This for example; it doesn't just apply to anime. And we have dozens more like it.

6:07 PM
@Eric The problems I have with the question is that a) Wikipedia already has far more detail than we will ever have on vocaloids in general, and b) If we allow "What is the connection between X and anime?" questions in general, those would be the only questions we ever get. Most of the existing questions like this are at least closely related to anime, but Vocaloid really isn't.
@Eric I missed that one, but it should probably go too.
I could find 2 or 3 instances of Capybara in anime without much difficulty, but I don't think that means it's reasonable to ask "What is the significance of Capybara in anime?".

@LoganM Then the blood types question should go, too. An asker has no way of knowing that's related to Japanese culture when they ask.
In the same way they don't know if birthdays are related to Japanese culture, or not.

@Eric Yes, it probably should.

@LoganM Alright, then let's get rid of the shouting attacks question also--it occasionally exists in Western cartoons as well. And kill the OP/ED 1:30 question, sometimes that's in Western animation as well.

wtf is going on?

Do you see how absurd this is getting?

6:17 PM
wow, what's going on?

We can't punish askers for not knowing whether a concept is related to anime or not.

@Eric No, I didn't say that.

@Eric why is this one no good?

@JNat I think it's fine. I'm finding questions which are not okay based on Logan's argument.

We shouldn't be entertaining questions which are really about Japanese culture and not about anime specifically.

6:19 PM
@LoganM And how does an asker know that prior to asking the question?

@Eric It's obvious in most cases. It's pretty clear that, for instance, this question is about anime.

@LoganM I'm not talking about questions which ask about two anime. I'm talking about questions which bring up an abstract concept (like birthdays, blood types, vocaloid singing) and ask about its pertinence to anime.
Clearly some are related to anime, some are related to Japanese culture, and some are related to neither. But an asker won't know that, and we can't expect them to.

@Eric I've never really liked those to begin with. Admittedly, I've asked some and answered some, but I view that as a necessary evil.

@LoganM Liking them and having them be on- or off-topic are two different things.

@Eric lets make that our second chat cast topic then: non-anime culture questions? Do we like'em? Should we keep'em?

6:25 PM
@Krazer yes, this

@Krazer I'm good with that. I'd vote, then, that we leave these questions (vocaloid + birthdays) open until Saturday.

@Eric Why should they be on-topic? Do scifi or Movies & TV or Arqade allow questions about the media? At the very least, they don't seem to get nearly as many as we do.
@Krazer I suspect the discussion will go nowhere, but okay.

@LoganM but arqage does get a fair share of technical support questions for games

@LoganM I don't think we have as many as you think. But we'll leave this for Saturday. Even if it goes nowhere it will be at least nice to have other people chipping in opinions.

@Eric if other people "show up"...

6:29 PM
I'll try to bring extra personalities

@JNat We'll have at least you, me, Logan, and Krazer. Probably Mysticial and Madara as well.

@Eric yes, but usually that's about it

I'll bring QAzer

@Eric I just did statistics on this, so I know how many we have. It's less than 15% of all questions, but they help the stats a lot because they have a much higher answer rate.

@LoganM Not all general questions fall into the scope we're talking about.

6:31 PM
Some of those aren't of the type we're discussing, but the majority are.

"Why do some Japanese anime contain English?" is clearly anime-related.

@Eric Not really. English is common in Japanese culture in general, not just in anime.

@LoganM That's a good point. So you're targeting even more questions than I thought.

@Eric I'm expressing dissatisfaction with more questions than you thought. If by "targetting" you mean trying to close, then probably not. As much as I'd like for all of those questions to be closed, I don't think we can afford to do that. All I want to do is figure out what the boundaries are for these kinds of questions. In the end, relatively few of our existing questions are likely to fall outside those boundaries.

Logan makes a good point here... we should start narrowing our scope now that we have decent traffic numbers. Working on the quality of our questions can go a long way in keeping visitors interested

6:40 PM
I agree but I don't think these problems pose a significant issue. Even if 15% of them were under this umbrella, I don't think people are going to be dissuaded by 15% of our questions (unless they are obscenely bad or unrelated).

@Eric 15% is a lot. That's more than all the homework questions on MSE (roughly 10%), which is the main reason why I left MSE.

@LoganM I guess I don't see an anime fan being turned away by (at worst) "Why do anime characters have birthdays?" But maybe that's just me.

@Eric so fans can celebrate the b-day of their waifu~

@Krazer xD

@Eric It is a bit of a turn-off when people gain significant amounts of rep asking and answering trivial questions like that. I don't really care about my own rep all that much, but it's annoying to see other people getting lots of rep from easy questions, while some of the hardest questions on the site only get 2 or 3 upvotes.
@Krazer If you don't already know your waifu's birthday, she probably isn't really your waifu.
3

6:54 PM
@LoganM That is an inherent problem in all SE sites, though. (At least all that I've been on and observed.) SO is particularly bad for this, despite old questions like that being locked and whatnot. The best Android questions might get 7-10 upvotes compared to the ChuckNorrisException that got like hundreds of upvotes or something stupid.
I do get what you're saying but I don't think this is where we need to trim the fat, if at all right now.

Anyway, for now, I suggest we retag that question as (because just doesn't fit) and add to the other vocaloid question, making it clear in the tag wiki that only anime-related questions about vocaloids are welcome. We can decide a long-term solution for this at the chat-cast. Any objections to this?

@LoganM no objections, I think vocaloids fits under better

@LoganM This is fine with me.

@LoganM Fine with me too
@LoganM that is frustrating, yes

@Krazer True. Is it better to just retag that one with and hold off on ? I think Vocaloid probably makes sense to have a tag, so long as it doesn't encourage questions which have nothing to do with anime.

6:59 PM
@LoganM lets decide at the chat cast

@LoganM crap, I already retagged them.

@Eric you're right @JNat is mad with power xD

@Krazer lol, I thought we had reached a consensus :P

@JNat It's fine it's not a big change

@Krazer and it's probably gonna get changed Saturday anyway

7:02 PM
Yey, new crazy face for avatar

@MadaraUchiha I still see the same crazy face. It'll probably update in a few minutes though.

Madara-sama is really excited to fianlly be able to see his old friend

@MadaraUchiha I still don't see it either

@LoganM Nah, I haven't switched
I mean new chapter is out and new face to choose from :D

oic

7:04 PM
Madara-sama has more character in color

terrible yes

@Krazer You doubted me!
@JNat Not going to delete Madara's comment?~ :P

@MadaraUchiha that's major spoilers for anime viewers
@Eric lol

Sasuke's been pretty lame lately

@MadaraUchiha didn't you get my message on the other room?

7:07 PM
@Eric I'm mad with power, just look at my avatar.

@Krazer when was he not lame?

@JNat before he went nuke-nin

Nope, only now I'm seeing it

@MadaraUchiha Ha...Hahaha...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... :D

@Eric Precicly.

7:10 PM
I've thought of changing my avatar to Father or Hohenheim. 'Cuz, y'know, more souls = moar power.

@Eric Hohenheim FTW

@JNat I still own him in battle though
A bit tricky, but still

@MadaraUchiha hmm, not sure
that's a tough one

@JNat It is, but I don't think there's anything he can do vs Susanoo

if you were Edo Tensei'd, I guess you'd wear him out eventually, yes

7:12 PM
Definitely not against a meteor

Hohenheim isn't great in combat, by his own admission.
Father, however, once he absorbs God, can take your soul just by holding his hand in your general direction. And he's essentially invincible.

@Eric Energy (including alchemic energy) doesn't pass Susanoo that easily.
GodFather however (see what I did there?) has the white beam of death, that might be somewhat of an issue.

@MadaraUchiha GodFather, eheh, nice

@MadaraUchiha Yes, that was also quite good.

@Eric And yet, he was defeated by Edward's fist, no less.

7:15 PM
Yeah, but we both know there was a lot of stuff that went down between sun-in-my-palm and death.

While there were a shitton of people around he could own by simply impaling them all with ground, or as you say, hold his hand in the general direction.
He just stood there, while they took out his shields, and he did nothing

Well, following the loss of his 50 million souls he acted somewhat irresponsibly.
@MadaraUchiha He can't use alchemy and his shield at the same time, though, as discovered by Greed.

@Eric Screw the shield! Just re-fucking-generate!
While you own the crowd
See? That's the difference in our power

lol, Yeah, he didn't try very hard.

I have a shield just as, if not much more, strong, and I can attack from within it.

7:18 PM
Make no mistake, though. Give me those powers and I'll destroy you.
He's just a Dwarf in a Flask.

The only weakspot the Susano'o has is the ground below, and even that was eliminated once it sprouted legs.

@Krazer can Touma beat these guys with his right hand?

It takes a very very very strong attack to even crack Susano'o, not to mention penetrate it, and I won't make it easy for you.

@MadaraUchiha Please. Save your bragging for when you're bleeding to death on the ground.

@Eric I won't bleed to death, I am a zombie, I regenerate.

7:19 PM
@MadaraUchiha For now.

If you don't have a method of sealing me (which you don't, by the way), I will wear all 50 million souls you have sooner or later

@JNat only if he can get close enough
Also no one can beat Madara-sama

@Krazer I can.

@Krazer somehow he always does

Thank you.

7:20 PM
I choose not to, for he is a better teammate than archenemy.

ahem.... Hashirama
anyone?

@JNat Definitely Plot-no-jutsu.

@JNat he got lucky

@Krazer every time?

@JNat Plot-no-jutsu.

7:21 PM
^^ that
deus ex machina

I guess the next chapters should make that clearer
@Krazer that's more that Sasuke thing that happened today

@JNat the story feels so discombobulated right now

@Krazer for a while now

@Krazer Bonus points for using that word in a legit sentence. :D

@Eric It's probably his word of the day.

7:30 PM
is this chat cast thing basically just everyone get in chat at 6?

@MrPineapple Yes, and discuss certain topics.
If you'd like to raise something there, tell us now :P

well, it'd be nice to discuss the constraints of questions on the site (much like the above mentioned birthday question)
but you're probably covering that anyway

@MrPineapple That is one of the things we have planned.

cool, apart from that...
we should plan a 1000th question :3

@MrPineapple It's going to have to be pretty great to beat the 666th question

7:36 PM
:D that IS a pretty good question alright
<3 answers

Krazer has added an event to this room's schedule.

7:53 PM
@JNat no worries :)
Is it Swimming and Beaches Day?

@Washu On Saturday.

double whammy

chat in swimsuits?

@MrPineapple That could be good too.

@MrPineapple bring a watermelon

7:59 PM
:D

I should probably change my avatar in light of Swimming and Beaches day. Miki looks great in a swimsuit.
(Though she looks great in anything so that's not much of a surprise.)

Q: Do we need multiple history tags?

Logan MCurrently, we have anime-history, manga-history, and game-history on the main site, with 17, 3, and 1 questions, respectively. We've also had other history tags at times, such as cosplay-history on this question, which is now tagged (somewhat incorrectly) as anime-history. In principle, we could ...

8:36 PM
we should probably talk about this on Saturday too

@JNat we usually run over so lets pase our selves and make a list on what we should discuss and how long

@Krazer We should prioritize it, really. So we can say, "If we run over, we can safely put <item> in a meta."

ok

1 - List Questions: do we still like them?
2 - Non-anime culture questions: Do we like'em? Should we keep'em?
3 - [Anime Production](http://meta.anime.stackexchange.com/questions/6/are-questions-about-how-to-make-anime-and-manga-off-topic/579#579) : Should we reconsider this?

@JNat Multiline breaks syntax.
Also:

8:42 PM
@Eric ah, I was wondering what the problem was
@Eric hmm, I see :P

Speaking of meta stuff, @Krazer is it okay if I submit the feature request to get rid of auto-tag-deletion? It's been nearly 2 weeks since we said we'd wait 2 weeks, and the consensus seems clear at this point.

@LoganM go got it~

crap... @Krazer help
I forgot to switch the tab.. created a chatroom here

8:57 PM
@iKlsR where?

it is showing up in the list of Anime ones

9:08 PM
Blender just started, though @Krazer already knows that.
Anyone want an invite?

Q: Request to disable autmatic tag deletion

Logan MStack Exchange sites, by default, have automatic deletion of low-frequency tags after 6 months. This has been disabled on Scifi, Arqade, Movies, and possibly other sites that I am not aware of, but it is still (as far as I know) in effect here. Shog9's answer on the Scifi post is worth noting: ...

9:39 PM
Funny, my notifications say there are 3 answers on my Hunter-x-Hunter question.
But there's only 2, and none deleted.

everything is an audit

Q: Too many review audits

FDinoffI just had 8 review audits in a row without an actual review in the first post review queue on Stack Overflow. Same thing happens in the Late Answers queue and the Low Quality Posts queue. Is this supposed to happen?

@JonLin That's a pretty serious bug.

@LoganM Yeah, people going to down on reviews

11:03 PM
I wonder how you screw that up.
Did someone change float AuditProbability = 0.05f; to 1.0f?

@Eric There are still reports of a few correct audits, though they may not be accurate. If you believe those, it's plausible that they changed a > to a < somewhere.

11:27 PM
@LoganM That'd be a weird thing to change, but I could see it happening.

@Eric I agree that it would be weird. But I think any explanation we are going to come up for why this started happening is going to be weird.

lol
True enough.

Seems like it was a pretty strange reason, though not the one I predicted.

A: Too many review audits

EmmettOuch, my fault... I accidentally set a flag that made everything an audit. I meant to do this locally (not on prod!) and somehow didn't notice my mistake until this meta thread was brought to my attention. I am updating our logic to make sure this flag is completely ignored on prod, so this does...
