8:11 AM
@BESW mmmm
sure?
Trouble: The Wolf did it.

.....yes.

Other aspect: The best way to the heart is through the stomach.

That'll let me do a lot more of the building with him.

High Concept: Assassin-Monk seeking her first blood.
(and... yes, there are many meanings to that)

....
I really like it, but can you work her innocence into it a bit more clearly?

8:13 AM
::blink::

...*without* requiring me to make menstruation references mid-play?

ah, right
Innocent Assassin-Monk on orders from Grandmother Abbot
(yes, grandmother abbot is sending her granddaughter to kill "Grandmother Witch." ... coincidence?)

in RPG General Chat, 19 hours ago, by Problematic
No. [citation needed]

hahaha
mmm,
Graduation test for an innocent assassin-monk
compel provides all sorts of funtimes there

Okay, I think your aspects are pretty solid.
A little tweaking on the high concept might be order to make it spark, but it's solid.

8:22 AM
and yes, name of Red
naah, let's make it a little more interesting. she goes by Sanguine when "on the job" (It's so much cooler than... Jenny.)

Fair enough.

When you're done with the mechanics, I'd appreciate attaching a (brief?) paragraph of her backstory/motive/context to the sheet.

cute = flashy?

...when she's being obvious about it.

8:31 AM
mmm, no
that's not the right flavour for the stunt
2 stunts. one for cute, one for acrobatic stuffs
cute-talky

Offensive, defense, manipulative?

manipulative, creating advantage
yeah, manipulation

The templates don't have to be followed. May I suggest...

basically this is a cute/innocent evocation

Wait, no. Hrm. Scratch that.

8:33 AM
and the other is highly-trained acrobat
and these will create tension in their use
And I'm really tempted to have a 1/session "The right treat for the job"
that's... fate 1 though, and that's not... really the best thing here
but it's awfully tempting
I'll really want my two extra aspects

What about a +2 when Xly creating advantages using food?

mmmm
instead of cute?

Maybe?

meh
let's start with..
Because I'm a highly trained monk, I get a +2 to quickly overcoming when...
I want to say "when it's like something I practiced on."
like "oh, this is scaling a wall, I can do that!"

You're thinking in D&D terms with that "monk" thing, aren't you?

8:37 AM
no
member of religious order
argh
D&D "monk" is silly
I'm... thinking assassin's creed, actually

Then your monk training should let you concentrate, meditate, and recall verses.

Up until the stabby mc stabby bit

Your assassin training would help you scale walls.

right
can I say quickly overcome physical obstacles when it's something I've done during practice?
Climbing/jumping/running

"quickly overcome physical obstacles" should be plenty.

8:39 AM
oh, okay

That's an approach, an action, and a subdefinition of the action.

right
Because I'm a habitual baker, once per game session I have the right treat for the job.

Nice.

(mmm, dwarven combat crumpets...)
Can we make a cute aspect ?

Like, change one or you want a fourth?

8:42 AM
Aspect: Cute as a Button
fourth
cause we get 5

FATE gets five. FAE gets 3.

and that allows me to drop innocent
"Your character will have a handful of aspects (between three and five),"

Ah, right. It's just a... balance issue? Everyone else only has three.
You'd have an advantage.

oh, I was absolutely expecting them to be created during the first session

Trying to KISS.

8:43 AM
yep yep
okay, then...
okay, lets see how this plays out

What do you think would be an appropriate way to balance an extra aspect?

give one based on the first session to everyone else? :)
on a pragmatic sense, lets just let us grow into 5 with xp. I'll hold off for now
I'll try to tag me with cute from innocent in HC

You can make your high concept a bit longer.

ideas solicited.

Brute force:
High Concept: Cute and Innocent Journeyman Assassin-Monk
Not elegant, but gets the job done.

8:48 AM
yep
we'll edit on the bloody fly

Aye.
I let people modify this stuff at-will during the first session.
And then there's the minor milestone at the end of every session.

yeah
we'll see what comes out in the wash
(I do have time to play a short session)

Waiting for my other DFRPG player to show up...
Let's see. How short can I make this?

ah ok
lol

8:50 AM
for a second
I thought you meant you were waiting for him so you could start THIS
how wude

Okay, I think I can do this.
Ready?

sure
we've got enough backstory

You've entered the Forest, hoping to find some sign of where Grandmother lives before the Forest's other inhabitants take too strong of an interest in you.
All too quickly, the trees around Sanguine are wide and tall, with a canopy that shrouds the mossy ground with dark green light.

"Sanguine" looks around, her blood-red cloak (really? in a forest? Oh well, it was grandmother's gift...) draped neatly around her shoulders.
She nibbles on an oatmeal cookie as she walks. She knows that she has got to cut out the cookie nibbling, but they're so tasty. And stress. Stress is totally why she's eating the cookie.
The knife in her belt is also acutely troubling her.
It's been... consecrated in a ritual that... well... mmm, cookies... cookies are safe.

The only light within sight is the top of a small hillock that is clear of the trees.

8:55 AM
She sighs, and tries to remember the lessons about the forest. Kneeling, she prays for guidance.

Perhaps from there she might get some sense of direction, or see chimney-smoke, or otherwise stop being so thoroughly lost.

Prayer first, then showing off on the tallest thing in the area.

Right.
[insert above:] A cloud, or something, moves aside to let sunlight shine down on the hill.

Right.
She prays, and sees the sunbeams strike the hill.
Quickly climbing a tree, she starts navigating to the hill in the treetops. No sense in being seen after all.

Squirrels, birds, and lizards scatter through the branches as she passes. Nearing the hill, her vantage point lets her see the top of it clearly well before a hiker person could.

9:00 AM
What does she see?

This is good, because the top of the hill is largely occupied by a green dragon, about twice the size of a horse, sunning its belly and snoring.

lol

...
right. I assume dragons are not colour coded for our convenience?

probly not

Correct. However, they are usually highly intelligent.
...and they take manners very seriously.

9:01 AM
right.
Does she know anything about dragons?
just intelligent and mannered?

Can you justify her having further knowledge of them?
(This could be a fun time to invent something about her religion?)

I'm actually going the opposite way.
They're entirely too nice to feature in her religion.
So she'll quietly call out from the tree. "Hello Mr. Dragon. Would you like to share some of my cookies?"

Worst. Dragons. Ever.

cause, innocent = threats? threats? what are these threats?

Heh. Then she knows that if you're rude to a dragon, dragon etiquette says he can eat you.

9:04 AM
@BESW works.
It's why she's being quiet. She's kind of scared of the dragon, but... well, cookies are meant to be shared!
after all, the best way to a thing's heart is through its stomach.

"Snruff. Snrogle. Wha!" The dragon starts awake, belching a small yawn of smoke.

"Oh! sorry, didn't mean to wake you. Cookies?"

It is slightly pudgy, like her, smaller than she thought dragons usually were, and has no horns.

(and yes, she's hanging off a tree with one arm while having this chat. She sees nothing wrong with this position)

Its eyes go wide as it looks at the cookie, and almost moves forward before pulling back and narrowing its eyes at her. "Do I know you?"

9:06 AM
@BESW Nope! And I don't know you. But you look nice!
"And... and I'm kinda lost."
"And I thought," she confesses without a care in the world, "that if I offered you a cookie, you... I could look around on the hill?"

[For the record, and Jenny has no knowledge of this, dragons are less concerned about etiquette before they grow up and choose their sex.]

whua?

"Really? I look nice? Thank you." It preens a scale or two. "I thought my scales were looking a little drab, so I thought some sun would do me good."
"What's your name?" it asks, reaching for the cookie.

@BESW "Er, they're pretty! They're all sparkly and green!"
"I'm J- Sanguine!". She tosses the whole oatmeal cookie down and takes the half-eaten one out of her belt, and nibbles on it.

9:09 AM
The dragon snatches up the cookie and tries to find the best sunbeam to sparkle in.

Sanguine pauses, not quite sure what to do next.

"You make good cookies, Sanguine. I'm--" it looks abashed for a moment, then puts on a defiant face "--a dragon."

@BESW "OOOhhh!"
(She completely buys it)

"King Kazul says I'm not mature enough to choose my name yet, but I am! Look at these scales! And watch this!" Under the influence of Sanguine's flatteries and cookie, the dragon is becoming more comfortable.
It opens up and lets out a gout of flame which would be very impressive on a smaller dragon.

yeeeees
burninate

9:12 AM
flame creation of any kind is very impressive to her.
"Ooooh! Oooooh! Wait. how hot is that?" She drops down, skipping down the side of the tree.

"I don't know! How would we find out?"

Completely oblivious to anything, she takes off her pack and starts hauling out some flour and eggs.

"Your cookie was very good," it adds, peering into her pack curiously.

"Well, I was trying to figure out how to bake in this forest, because building up a fire is... kind of annoying... but since you can breathe fire... I can make us SCONES! ... and probably some tea!"
"Can I call you... Jenny?"
She's totally trying to be subtle here, and failing. (with that last bit.)

The dragon looks enthused at the idea of scones, but blinks at the name suggestion and forgets the scones entirely. "I don't know. Can you do that?"

9:14 AM
Her pack is about 9 parts cooking supplies to 1 part camping gear. Her only "assassiny" thing is the consecrated dagger in her belt, and her not... particularly flattering form-fitting undersuit.
Sanguine looks completely confused. "Er, wait, this is getting into ontological stuff, isn't it Jenny? I'm... wait, can I do it, can I do it.. okay, so we need to... "She trails off, muttering, in a thicket of theology and philosophy.

The dragon seems flabbergasted. "I thought only the King of the Enchanted Forest could do that!" A flabbergasted dragon is a sight few ever get to see.

@BESW "Oh! Okay. Then I won't call you Jenny, Jenny... er..."
"Sorry? pleasedonteatmemysconesaretotallyawesomeandyoucanhavetwo eep!"

The dragon seems confused. "Wait, can you do it or not?"
"Because if you can give me a name, I don't have to wait for King Kazul to say I can, and that's going to take forever."

"I... just called you Jenny, so, maybe I did it? But you might not mean the same thing I do and... " She pouts. "I hoped you'd be my friend. But I'll still make you scones anyways."

The dragon blinks again. "A... friend? Making me scones? I've never had a friend who made scones."
Less excited now that getting a name seems to be off the table, it settles down in a half-curl around the edge of the hilltop to watch Sanguine make scones.

9:20 AM
@BESW She... well, there's no dignified word for it, squees, and then starts mixing batter and rasins.
"Okay, so this rock needs to be at one hundred and eighty degrees.... and if we bake it, Jenny, for 15 minutes, we'll have a batch of scones!"

"Um. You might want to stand back? I... don't always hit what I'm aiming at."

Sanguine carefully sets up the rock oven on a ... rocky outcropping, carefully stacking a bit of fallen wood under it. She then stands back, starting to shape scones in anticipation.

Once she's out of the way, the dragon opens up. Most of the hilltop gets scorched, but soon the oven is suitably heated.

yes
burninate

Sanginue is completely and totally impressed.

9:23 AM
this dragon is ok

And then she bakes scones and heats some water for tea.
The scones ... well, the scones are delicious. Sanguine does have a good hand for baking, even in primitve conditions.
"So um, Jenny, um... do you like them?"

"Mmmm." The scones aren't even a bite each, but the dragon manages to savor each of them in a toothy, sharp-clawed, crumb-covered kind of way.
"Only Princess Cimorene makes scones this good!"

another squee. Dignified, sanguine is not.
She then hugs the dragon around... well, whatever she can reach.

The dragon holds still and watches the process.
Carefully brushing some crumbs off its scales, it says, "I don't think that's very dignified, but you're a friend so it's okay."
"Sanguine, are you a princess?"

@BESW Sanguine freezes for a second, and then squeezes harder before dropping off. "Nope! I'm uh... (softly) a monk... kindof"

9:29 AM
"Oh." The dragon looks disappointed. "What's a monk? Is it like a princess?"

@BESW No, I worship haz-gorat, the gatherer.
And sometimes the abbess tells people what to do..

"What does he gather? Can he gather princesses?"

I haven't been out of the cathedral before, really...
@BESW The living. Yes, he can totally gather princesses.

"That's very nice. Sanguine? Will you do me a favor?"

@BESW "Sure, if you'll do me one!"

9:32 AM
"Of course. That's how favors work." The dragon considers re-evaluating how smart Sanguine might be.

@BESW (hehehehe)
"How can I help?"

"If you can't give me a name, can you get your Haz-Gorat to gather me a princess? If I have a princess, King Kazul will have to let me choose a name!"

@BESW "Uh, a ... living... princess? Or just her soul?"

The dragon is seriously re-evaluating Sanguine's intelligence. "Alive, of course. What use would she be dead?"

(eating)
(duh)

9:36 AM
@BESW Oh, well, that's harder. But... um, I'll pray? And... and... well, I'll pray and we'll see. okay?
And when sanguine says pray, in this case, she... actually kind of means it.
She starts sketching out a ritual circle on the ground.

The dragon's ears perk up at the circle. "You're a sorceress? Is that why your scones taste so good?"

Kneeling in the center, she uses a (clean) pin to prick a rather calloused index finger, and annoints the space.

It looks a little worried about having eaten so many ensorcelled pastries.

"Shhh! I'm praying!" (in a loud whisper)
And she indeed prays to the goddess of the assassins for permission to gather a live princess for her friend, Jenny.
The particle effects are subtle, but quite elegant.
And, notably, the scone set in the sacrifical offering portion of the circle decays.

The dragon's constant re-evaluation of its new friend may be giving it a slight headache.

9:38 AM
hehehehehehe

"Is that it?"

What response does sanguine get back?
or is that from the goddess?

Okay, so... let me think.

(Basically, Sanguine sees nothing wrong with kidnapping a princess if her goddess agrees. She is remarkably ideologically... motivated)

A high-pitched scream rises, followed by a flock of birds, from the forest to the west.
"THAT sounded like a princess!" The dragon is impressed.
"Waurog's does that a lot."

9:42 AM
Has the prayer concluded? You do not cross a prayer circle in operation.

...yes.

er, too many open channels.
1) Goddess' response. 2) Prayer completion

1) I'm going to run prayer answers as "coincidence generation." 2) Yes, prayer's over.

In the future, I think I'll require a roll for them.

9:44 AM
"The goddess has spoken! I'll go abduct her, shall I?"
(I'm... kinda surprised you didn't. But... eh, no reason to start rolling now)

(Yeah, I'm a bit distracted.)

(no worries)
Jenny carefully deconsecrates the circle, and steps out.

@BrianBallsun-Stanton "Yes, please. I'll wait here and... make sure no one disturbs these scones."
Actually, yeah, I'll ask for a roll.

She shucks off her cloak, clad only in her assassin's leathers. "Okay!" Climbs back into the canopy and starts making her way over. This... to her, is still an awesome training exercise and making a friend.
er, okay
4df?
4d6

9:47 AM
Plus what approach? Looked Clever to me.

1 + mods

I've got no idea how to read that.

thats a 1
6 and 5 is +1

mmm, clever, yes. Thinking about stuff in a ritual

4 and 3 0
1 and 2 -1

9:47 AM
clever is a +2

So that's a three...
For getting a divine answer to "help me kidnap a princess" from an assassin god...

versus...
hahaha
so the god rolls, yes?
ah, overcome against a difficulty level

I determine the difficulty on the ladder.

If you can think of at least one reason why
the task is tough, pick Fair (+2).
p 37
It would be extremely difficult, but well, being consecrated to the goddess does help.
so is it a +2, or +4 and I drop a fate point?

Let's call it Superb (+5).

9:50 AM
+2 from Fate points

You're asking for a favor outside of your god's portfolio.

okay, so, now what?
okay, fair enough

So spend a Fate point to get +2, if you have an aspect that can justify making the task easier.

yeah

9:51 AM
HC
assassin-monk

(This is where being consecrated comes into play; not in determining the difficulty, but in letting you achieve it.)

which is absolutely relevant
okay

It totally is, so your +3 gets +2 and hits the target.

now, with that said...

That's a great place to end the session.

9:52 AM
would it be appropriate to have rolled for the ritual circle to create an advantage first?

Yes.

I roll for that, yes?

Would've given you a free invoke instead of spending an FP, and you still would've had the HC to invoke if necessary.
Aye.

9:53 AM
+2, mmm.. clever?

That's not so hard, but you don't have materials and the situation isn't too ideal, so difficulty is +2.

right
actually, no, the drawing ritual circle is flashy
She's showing off to her friend

Ah, yes. It is.
So, mechanics:

+1 flashy, +3 = +4 for ritual circle

You got a +3 on the ritual to Overcome the obstacle of not having a princess to kidnap.
You successfully created the aspect "Ritual Circle" with a free invoke.

9:55 AM
er, what's the "with style" grade?

@BrianBallsun-Stanton 3 points over what was necessary gives you an extra free invoke.

ah, drat. So simply a success.
okay.

You spent the free invoke to bring your Overcome check up to the necessary 5, which is sufficient to Overcome the problem of not having a princess.

And there's nothing that I can boost it to to get a with style.
which means, hey, princess over there!

you hope

9:57 AM
well, princess-like-scream over there

(If you'd failed the rolls, the scream would've turned out to be... something else.)

lol
watch though

The dreaded Princess Mimic, perhaps?

it ends up being some other dragon's princess

9:58 AM
Excellent.
I hope you enjoyed that.

Yep.
my characters are... so very odd

Odd is great, so long as we can get them to be odd in the right direction.

heh
direction tends to be... random :)

I think Sanguine works well.

roll for vector when creating character. Yeah, I'm trying to channel a bit of cartoon-assassin into her

9:59 AM
1d8?

4 d6
4d6

nuuuuus

I hope I did light-cute-young
