@StaceyAnne Trying to be somewhat more social, and to start to discuss projects more.

There has also been lots of discussion on how to be nicer to newbs and such, and being able to face to face for such discussions can make discussions a bit nicer, as they actually happen.

I had been discussing setting it up for a while, just had not gotten around to it.

The "hangout" is through google hangout, it allows up to 8 to chat with video(I dont have a webcam, but being able to see peoples face and hear their tone can be nice once in a while)

and it can stream to youtube so others can watch if they want to, and if we decide to it can stay posted there for others to watch later to see what they missed.

and also, meh, why not?

dunno, we have discussed the blog also, and I would like to build up material to for it if people become more serious.

I can make saturday, as of now, but I cant make tomorrow, but @W5VO said he could and 5 others could.

@Kortuk I was actually thinking about this earlier, when talking online (especially in text form) very little information is conveyed about the tone of how something is said vs IRL or even voice

@vicatcu What features are important for you? Do you really need a programmable voltage, or would a simple set of common voltages work?

i think CV/CC is important for board bringup

@DavidKessner I can't think of a reason I would ever need anything but 5V and 3.3V (and maybe +/- 12V), so a re-purposed ATX supply would probably work for me if it had a display and CV/CC

@vicatcu CC/CV can be handy, but not essential for board bringup.

I have several BK Precision supplies in my lab and they work fine. I also have an Instek, but it is out of your price range.

I had a 25V mosfet that I was subjecting to 27v. It died with a short. I don't know if this is normal, however.

Vgs(max)=25v. Vgs(actual)=27v. Blue smoke was released.

@Rocketmagnet Only if you are exceeding the specs on the gate. Have you put a scope on things to see where you might be exceeding the limits?

It is also possible that you zapped the MOSFET with static, and it was damaged. Sometimes when you do that they will fail at a later date (so you don't see the correlation between the ESD and the failure).

I will just be relaxing at home goofing around with electronics.

I am leaving the google hangout on Saturday pretty open. Discuss projects, site policies or just shooting the breeze is fine, I am pretty relaxed. Just kick back and discuss everything from vacuum nanotubes to beer.
