Anyhow. How are games installed when using wine? Gta 4. a pirated folder of HoMM3 (I had bought the game !) and warcraft 3 win version.. I mean, can they be installed if they are exe ?

Has anyone tried "Friends" that is supposed to replace Gwibber?

@RolandiXor I don't use supposed to replace. I use did replace a couple years ago or deserves to replace but never will

Openbox for example. Or facebook and G+. One should replace and won't. The other two replaced myspace.

1:49 AM
lol but I'm asking about Friends - which WILL replace Gwibber
@GeorgeEdison should know it - it's QML ;)

That's fair. Is it stock on ubuphone?

Q: How to point OpenSSL to the root certificates on an Android device?

George EdisonI've managed to cross-compile OpenSSL for ARMv6 for use with the Android NDK and get it to run within my application. However, when attempting to establish an HTTPS connection to a well-known host (such as https://google.com), I always receive the error "The SSL certificate is invalid." However,...

@RolandiXor Yes?
Actually, I've never used QML.

e_e
@AbrahamVanHelpsing yep
@GeorgeEdison so you didn't hear about Friends either?

@RolandiXor Then it deserves to win. And after I win the lotto and buy a nexus...

Friends?

1:55 AM
I am just weird I guess :/

I plan to buy a nexus. I just don't forsee anything working out, so I'm just expecting the worst.

@OliverSchöning you run the installer and pray it works ;p

2:22 AM
hello, linux genii \^_^/
I have a completely unrelated to ubuntu question :D
im trying to get some parental control going on , on my computer
well.. all computers at my homestead
just got opendns running thanks to the forums here
works really nice except
there are websites I love that are impossible to filter
such as twitter and reddit

Well, what or how do you expect it to be filtered, maybe we can help you out.

just type a nasty word in the search and you've got lude pictures with the click of a button O_o
I finally got pic.twitter.com filtered but then found that pics can be shows right in the twiter feed T_T
I'd have to lockout twitter and reddit all together T_T
the only thing I can think of is ... if there were a way to lockout twitter and reddit within a specific time period
If they could only be viewed when a parent was around.... that would be perfect

You will never achieve 100% filtering, unless you pull the cord.
This question provides a nice solution for Ubuntu, and other than a physical firewall to handle that, you most likely won't get anything better than that either.
As does this question, for that matter.

2:38 AM
I have an idea!
I can make two opendns network-labels
one with super lockdown mode and one with a little lighter mode
then with the ddclient I can turn on one network label during certain times with cron or pam
:D

Hacky and ridiculously complicated, but it should work.

haha
first time I've seen gnome-nanny. that looks interesting. thanks for the help @FEichinger

Any time.

I knew if I came in here, i'd get somewhere. this is the best channel
irc is terrible
another thing i've been wonderring is ... the default calendar in ubuntu is nice but is there any way to link a google calandar account to it?
i guess this is better to make an actual question
ok

2:49 AM
@JoshuaRobison Yeah, this definitely beats IRC.

3:48 AM
Oh for god's sake, YouTube ... Another redesign?

4:04 AM
@FEichinger hey hi... after a long time humm... !! How r u?
guys need some help on the below question.

Q: What is skew value in Mongo DB Database replication?

RisheeI have just started the three MongoDB replica servers. I do not understand what is this screw value what it should be on which server? Which values should I monitor I have taken 2 screenshots shown below for Primary Mongo DB Server, Secondary Mongo DB Server & Arbiter Mongo DB Server resp...

4:16 AM
is there any one here??

we're dead
@Rishee best bet is to post the question and then wait
you're not likely to get a faster response here to your question.

@TheLordofTime Hush, you're effectively immortal.

@FEichinger Which is why I can say "we're dead" without me actually being dead.

Shoot you twice. Cause I ain't dead. :P

meh
doesn't matter.
too bad i don't have mod, I would LOVE to burn that one user's posts...
this user:
sigh why can't we just salt the tag?
bleh
@FEichinger what's the syntax for links here in chat?

4:22 AM
[name](link)

oops i reversed it xD

@TheLordofTime thanks for the advice, will keep that in mind in future. but I get some suggestions from people here on how or where i can find some clues to resolve the question. that's why this question was here.... :)

That's the same syntax as for inline-links on the site. =P

@Rishee it's an hour of the day when nobody's online
and a time when bronyspeak slips into my typing >.<
facedesks
@Rishee This will sound dickish, but, have you read MongoDB's documentation?
at all?

@TheLordofTime hahaaa yes there is an explanation but can't really understand it well enough... need more practical explanation... :P

4:34 AM
@Rishee what's their explanation :P
why is this so complicated an answer / question? Can I flag it for overcomplicated syntax and too many images? askubuntu.com/questions/263332/…

4:53 AM
No.

@RolandiXor 'twas not me being serious on the second part. however, the first part stands.

also, my flags still stand.
(for other things)
... or not
/me blames FFox lagging

Q: Startup commands with zsh as default shell?

David Y. StephensonI'd like some commands to run a script at startup. However, my default shell is zsh, so the traditional .bash files seems unwise. At the same time, I believe .zshrc is sourced at every shell invocation. How can I run a command at startup when my default shell is zsh?

Startup uses what, 'sh' aka Dash, Bash, or the login shell?

5:48 AM
is there a way to upload a small image in chat??

It's time for a screenshot.
Ta-da.

@Rishee you need the right amount of rep, I think 120 or so (don't quote me on the figure).
@GeorgeEdison What is this?

@RolandiXor My Git app for Android.

@RolandiXor hahaa ... good way of saying that you know...

5:52 AM
@RolandiXor: nice to see I'm not the only one who quotes his feline surliness

@TheLordofTime this is what they have given explanation for skew?? which is hard to understand for me... :(

@GeorgeEdison nice :)

@Rishee: in general, it will mess up diagnostic readings, but not do anything particularly bad

@JourneymanGeek the biggest joke is, Tardar Sauce is a she

like kick your dog, or eat babies

5:54 AM
@RolandiXor It's already capable of cloning from remote Git repositories.

@RolandiXor: ahh. actually that makes sense

@GeorgeEdison wow nice :D

in my replica DB it is showing 24 & 5 ... it is a good value or bad??
@TheLordofTime any suggessions you may have, after taking look at both of the above images???
is there anyone who has a experience on the Mongo DB or any DB replication here???

6:25 AM
uhhh.... anyone ..... ???
am I aloneeeeee here??

Q: How to make cursor change in different modes in vim?

Mostafa ShahverdyHow can I make Vim change cursor in different modes so that these conditions are satisfied: Without using gconftool or such tools. I need this affect only one instance of Vim, not the whole terminal. This must be working in Gnome Terminal and GVim. I have tried changing with sample in help gc...

9:20 AM
@MostafaShahverdy maybe there is not a direct method ... maybe you just have to delve into the VIM code and code this functionality yourself :/
o/ @EliahKagan

@fossfreedom hi

9:42 AM

@fossfreedom I've tried playing with the source code
but it is really time consuming for me

@MostafaShahverdy yep - just saying - the functionality you are seeking may just not be supported by VIM - hence the lack of answers to your question.

VishuI installed Nagios 3.4.4 on Ubuntu server 12.10. Installation was successful but now I'm not able to view maps and trends.When I try, I get the following error /nagios/cgi-bin/statusmap.cgi was not found on this server Why is this happening.What should be done for this.

10:06 AM
@fossfreedom, you're right, and the idea that came as answer there seems to be really helpful by now ;)

@MostafaShahverdy hey ... still some time to go ... you never know - someone might have a cool way of doing something similar that would be useful. Patience :)

Q: Meta Ask Ubuntu search needs to be more intuitive

DoogfarI recently did a search and didn't get a result. That was because I was searching on Ask Ubuntu Meta and not Stack Exchange Meta. Even though the two overlap. So instead of Ask Ubuntu Meta returning no results it would be more intuitive to also include results from StackExchange Meta. This would...

Just removing the last of my files. Then installing Ubuntu. Any tips?

you've tested that ubuntu will run via the live-CD?
make sure you've got an image backup.

What in the what now? I am downloading a program to make boot usb

are you new to ubuntu?

Yeh, tried it. Kinda like it. Want to get rid of my linux partition and might aswell remove windows 7

hi DM

11:43 AM
best not burn your bridges - "Ghost" backup or similar your current hard-drives - at least then you've got a return path if the unlikely event stuff goes wrong.
@Mahesh o/

wazzup these days?
I was away for a while..

@fossfreedom oka

@Mahesh all quiet on the western front ... new mods are eager beavers doing all the heavy lifting.

hahahah.. they'll get tired soon...

Downloading unetbooting as requested on SO ^^

11:47 AM
@OliverSchöning you've been running ubuntu via a USB stick for a couple of days? Best to do this. Experiment with different desktop environments to find one that works best for you.

@fossfreedom I have tried it enough to get it now. I don't have a lot of files to transfer and most on the web. It's fine. Thanks for concern though :P
Do I need to be online for the install ? I read I can update afterwards.

@OliverSchöning cool :) welcome aboard!

\o/ Not gonna stay with the basic theme though. Really not a fan of this orange xD
One more thing. Size of the usb ? It said least 2gb. But the iso is only 700+ mb. @fossfreedom

@OliverSchöning During the install it will have a large green tick confirming you've got a internet connection. Best connect both your laptop/pc via a wired connection. If you are installing via USB - the 2Gb is fine.

11:54 AM
@fossfreedom What if I install without the net ?

yep - no worries - it will install just fine without an internet connection.
what version of ubuntu are you intending to run?

12.10.
64 bit

Q: How to enable e-mail notifications?

mplI'd like to receive e-mail notifications for answers to my questions on askubuntu. I've seen in other questions that there should be a box to tick in the preferences of my account to enable that, but I can't seem to find it. Here's a screenshot of how it looks for me. What am I missing please?

@OliverSchöning just be aware you'll need to upgrade this within 12 months - 13.04 is released end of april.

@fossfreedom Yeah I heard. But "need" ? :p Lot of new goodies in 13? some1 told me it should be more power efficient. more I dont know

12:00 PM
"need" - becomes unsupported in 12 months time. Not sure about 13.04 support at the moment - stuff is in flux with rolling release issues etc.

Right hehe :p
Sigh.. borrowing 2x 2 terrabyte external hardiskes for my files.. but they both only have about 5gb space combined..
I hope ubuntu can remove Linux mint partition..

Just make sure during the installation that you select the mint partition to install within or it will default to creating yet another partition - you'll then have a triple boot - ubuntu/mint/other OS

wee...
I should be able to figure it out

12:29 PM
Alright.. Here goes nothing. Cya on the other side

12:46 PM
Aaand Back :p I am now on Ubuntu :D

@OliverSchöning congrats!

Thanks ! Got some graphic errors. And installing chrome. otherwise im good

@OliverSchöning 17 minutes between posts. Nice going!

Yeah, was really impressed compared to windows

ahh graphics - bane of everyone life. Depending upon which chipset you have - you may want to consider the proprietary drivers. Remember to update your system to the latest level - there has been a considerable amount of effort to fix bugs in this area since the 12.10 release.

1:00 PM
Yeah, long night I expect. Since I dont even remember how to install Chrome :p

chromium is straight from the software-center. Chrome you need to download via the google website.

I kinda found a way. downloaded it. opened with software center. and it had a install button
oh. failed

oh. it is a compiz bug.
NOTE: This bug is for Ubuntu 12.10 and later only. If you experience something similar in 12.04 then please see bug 964270. ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Since version 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1, compiz/unity keeps messing up my gsettings (keybindings and WM prefs). This was already covered in bug 1042041, but the change there mostly caused the bug to happen consistently now. At every session startup I have a script to fix my settings like this: --------------- 8< ---------------- gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences auto-raise gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings lower "['<Alt>b']" gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings maximize "['<Super>Up']" gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings unmaximize "['<Super>Down']" gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences focus-mode sloppy --------------- 8< ---------------- But after restarting compiz, it changes the settings to: --------------- 8< ---------------- $ gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences
compiz (Ubuntu)

is the twitter widget stupid?
i put it on the side of my wordpress blog and it is broken. kinda

huh?
What is broken about it?

@jokerdino I think we talked about this before...

Oh, that one. Wait a sec.

@Seth i think it was Roland the other time.

That's because that one isn't inside a <script> tag.
It just outputs the raw JS there.

@jokerdino yeah.

what was the fix anyway?

6:00 PM
Wrong link I think.

@jokerdino Protocol identifier on the link was broken.
But in your case, as I said, it's just the <script> tag around the JS that's missing. Should suffice.

wait, i think it is a text box. o.O

Probably.

i want a script box. boo
