4:00 PM
@Fluttershy I feel like I've read about this, but haven't really gotten a full picture of what it's about yet

@Fluttershy I went looking for that; Gamespot doesn't have a release date for it.

@agent86 I just started playing Saturday

last year was also dishonored and AC3, both of which I wanted to play but didn't get to yet, so those might have been pretty good...

@agent86 Dishonored is fantastic.

stayed up til 3AM, and have done nothing but play it, eat, and sleep for the rest of the weekend -.-

4:00 PM
@SaintWacko oh god, clear your schedule.

@agent86 It looks like survival action with a strong story

@agent86 Yeah...

@SaintWacko I just got Model of a Modern Major General in civ 5, after like... 2.5 years of playing.

I played Civ4:BtS:RoM:AND:C2C quite a lot, though

Isn't Watch Dogs meant to be out this year?

4:01 PM
@kalina I think it is

@Fluttershy it's on my "rent" list, and I already have a 2-mo cert. to gamefly, so I'll probably get to it in the late spring timeframe

that looks conceptually like a very good game

I do miss the gaming grants for this reason though, I hardly ever buy single player games

I finally stopped playing last night, after I scared Egypt so badly they just gave me the city I was heading towards
While my fleet was still a few turns out from their shores

@SaintWacko if you need advice or tips, let me know or ask. we have several civ pros on staff :P

4:02 PM

@kalina If it allowed for that amount of flexibility as shown in that trailer it would be fantastic

@agent86 and @fbueckert ^^

@YiJiang'sEvilClone this exactly yeah

@Fluttershy This looks sorta like a sequel to Heavy Rain.

@agent86 Is there a mod that will make enter select whatever is currently in the 'Next turn' button?

4:02 PM
Just from the preview shot.

It's stupid not having it work that way

@fbueckert It's an action shooter, so no, not quite Heavy Rain

I fired up Civilization V this weekend

Also, I'm loving the changes from civ 4

was a brief gaming session of only 6 hours

4:03 PM
@Fluttershy bookmarked, will check it out in a bit

@fbueckert Heavy Rain was about the origami killer or whatever, right?

@agent86 Yep, sounds like civ!

@SaintWacko not that I'm aware of...

@Fluttershy I dunno; I only played the demo.

@Fluttershy The one and only

4:04 PM
I wish this entertaining talk had a less strong accent

Ah... Okay. It's nothing like that. <_<

@agent86 I wonder how hard that would be to implement. It just seems like such a common sense thing!

@SaintWacko the one that's a bit frustrating is no stacking - esp. of workers. I can deal with military no stacking, but not being able to end a turn with 2 workers on the same tile is a pain
it makes trying to build a road with more than one worker a real pain, in rough terrain at least

@agent86 Yeah, that is annoying
I usually leave my workers on automatic, though, so I just let them deal with it

@SaintWacko yeah, this works at lower difficulties, but the automation is kind of poor for the strategy I tend to employ
gold > *

4:05 PM
Although I did run across the annoyance while telling them to build roads to future city sites
@agent86 Yeah, gold seems to be a lot more useful in civ 5
It's nice to be able to settle a new city and immediately buy some basic buildings to get it started
or immediately buy a harbor to connect it to the trade network

Alright, working for the next five and a half hours. Time to finish Cloud Atlas.

@SaintWacko yeah, I tend to prefer trading posts in almost all tiles for this reason
if you take the science policy track (rationalism, I think?) you can get bonus science from trading posts... and you don't have to chop forests, so you get production bonuses vs. farms

@agent86 I'll have to try that out in some game
Ooh, nice

@SaintWacko I'll still build farms near rivers, at least a few per city

So far I've done Honor, Tradition, Commerce, and now I've started on Rationalism

4:07 PM
I fell sad for this guy ... (I passed for a breakup few months ago (the motive that I vanish from Arqade)). And think that you "have" to tolerate the person who did this as an employ ... man... that's unfair...

Q: How should I deal with an employee who has slept with my wife?

Waiter JohnI'm the owner of a business with about 30-40 employees. Recently, I found out that one of my employees has been having an affair with my wife. The employee has worked for me for 4 years. I felt like I was his mentor, since I recruited straight from university, taught him the ropes, and promoted h...

not finished with commerce

@SaintWacko unfortunately, most of the other things in rationalism are a bit underpowered, imho
like +1 happy from university? really?
and I never do research agreements (stupid greedy AI civs)

Just going to back fro the the library. These will be what I'll be reading for the next week or so
Excuse the library sticker covering the names of some of the books

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I've found Le Guin a bit on the dry side.

@fredley I know...

4:10 PM
@RonanForman I've forgotten what I said

@fredley That you live in cambridge.

@RonanForman Ah

@fbueckert Really? I thought The Dispossessed and The Left Hand of Darkness to be some of the best scifi I've ever read

@fbueckert Have you tried reading her Earthsea series?

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I've read...Rimrunners? I think? Her scifi is a ton better than her fantasy.

4:12 PM
@MichelAyres this is harsh

@YiJiang'sEvilClone What's the Hamilton book? That name sounds familiar

I was looking for Beggars in Spain by Nancy Kress and something by Sagen, but the library didn't have it

@Fluttershy Can't say that I have.

@SaintWacko The Temporal Void, part of the Void trilogy

@fbueckert A Wizard of Earthsea was one of the first fantasy novels I've ever read, and it's always been one of my favorite books.

4:14 PM
@fbueckert Her most famous books, and one of the finest examples of fantasy you'll find

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I may have to check that out later, then.
Maybe I just picked up some of her not as good books.

The Void Trilogy is set in the same universe as the Commonwealth Saga, 1000 years later

I have 4 out of 6 books in the Earthsea series. I was extremely fortunate to find book 4 in a revolving bookstore in town. =3

@YiJiang'sEvilClone To be fair, I'm not a huge fan of quiet, philosophical fantasy. Guy Gavriel Kay is a Canadian author, and while I've read a few of his books, his writing style isn't something I like.

4:17 PM
@fbueckert Yeah. The two Le Guin scifi novels I mentioned aren't good because of their story, but because of the ideas contained in them

@kalina Yeap, I didn't know what to do when I got kicked... imagine this guy o.o"

Q: dota 2: increase viewport size

Arthur HalmaIf there a chance to increase viewport using configs or video.txt? Looks like viewport depends on monitor resolution (but I heard that resolution no matter and all have the same viewport).

I can't decide what to start after I finish Cloud Atlas... I'm trying to decide between The Name of the Wind, Kushiel's Dart, or finally starting WoT... Any suggestions anyone?

The Left Hand of Darkness considers gender and its role in society, while The Dispossessed talks about Anarchist societies

@MichelAyres this makes me feel so guilty, I purposely set out to break anybody I'm breaking up with

4:19 PM

@Fluttershy Do you like long, overarching storylines?
From several different viewpoints?

@fbueckert I'm five books deep in ASOIAF...

@fbueckert I do!

@Fluttershy Then you should like Wheel of Time.

You're recommending Hamilton. Hamilton is basically epic space opera.

4:20 PM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Weber is epic space opera.

do you know what isn't epic space drama?
EVE Online is not epic space drama

@fbueckert Alrighty then. =P

Nope, guessed wrong :p

I read anything and everything by Weber, because he's just that good.

@kalina It is fun, though

4:21 PM
I'm not sure it's any of those things actually, I'm not even sure it's set in space, let alone a drama or epic

@kalina Where else is it set?

@SaintWacko what do you mean by "fun" ?

Alright readin--er... Work time!

I haven't experienced any of this "fun" while playing EVE

@SaintWacko Hit me up on Steam; I'm currently drowning @AshleyNunn in book recommendations.

4:21 PM
@kalina Really? What have you experienced?

The Commonwealth Saga consists of two books, each over 1000 pages long

@kalina O.O

@fbueckert I'm at work :( No Steam access

@fbueckert I am not sure that books are viscous enough to drown in

@SaintWacko Enlightenment?

4:22 PM
@fbueckert boredom

@SaintWacko Ditto at work.

@MichelAyres sorry, sometimes that's the most fun part of the relationship for me

I meant later, after work. :P

@fbueckert I could pull it up on my phone, but I don't have wifi access

@kalina That tells me sad, sad things about your relationships.

4:22 PM
@fbueckert Oh, okay
@kalina Were you mining?

@fbueckert likely, I don't even really call them relationships, none has lasted more than 18 months yet anyway
@SaintWacko yes
lots of mining
and when I'm not mining

@kalina There's your problem

I feel like I'm doing the same 6 missions over and over again
I certainly haven't flown my own ship yet

@kalina I kinda understand you (I did a lot of this) but, after someone did (in THAT way) to me, I'm kinda looking from the other POV =X

I just tell it where to go and then go make coffee

4:24 PM
Quit your mining corp, go join a war corp, and do missions

I am not in a corporation

@kalina Well, not join
go do missions for an NPC combat corp

@SaintWacko boring

Amarrian Ministry of War, for example
@kalina Not once you get into L4 missions

@MichelAyres aww

4:25 PM
I flew a Nightmare in L4s. Had some pretty tense moments

@SaintWacko are you suggesting I have to do missions for hours and days before I can start enjoying the game?

The interesting part is the PvP IMHO, the missions get boring rather fast

@kalina The earlier missions are fun, too, just not as fun

@GnomeSlice I love yours gifs =P

4:26 PM
Damn Hamilton for ending all his serial novels in cliffhangers

Also, if you get bored of missioning, grab a little ship and go scanning

I should quit now

You can find some neat stuff that way

describe "neat"

@kalina I'm playing my first MMO since CoX went dark.

4:27 PM
because if you say "gas cloud"
I am going to jump

I waited two years for the second Commonwealth novel

@kalina Ahahaha
No, I mean actual neat stuff
deadspace complexes

but at any point in the game

for the most part

do I get to fly my own ship

4:27 PM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Have you read any of David Weber? If you have, how does it compare to Hamilton?

no I don't
thus, boring

@kalina No, EVE is about strategy, not reflexes

@fbueckert Have not, sorry

@SaintWacko oh no, strategy :(

@kalina Ah, you don't like strategy?

4:28 PM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Boo. If there was someone similar, that gives me something new to read.

I just want a game where I can fly around

@kalina Ohhh

I might install Freelancer again

Ah, what's that one game...

@fbueckert Long, winding stories. Multiple perspectives. Semi-hard, fairly far future setting
Cliffhanger at the end of each thousand page novel

4:30 PM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone That could describe Weber's Honor Harrington novels.

I have a game on Steam that sounds like what you want, but I can't think of the name

HOMETIME!

@kalina Grrr
6 more hours for me

@SaintWacko If you say Freelancer, I swear...

@fbueckert Lol no

4:31 PM
Seeing the meta post on the populist badge reminds me how close I was to getting it...

It's a two word name

For goodness sake I finished the first book in the Void series and the two main storyline only came together at the last two pages

That's a thousand page of build up to end in a cliffhanger. I have a love/hate relation with his books.

This looks amazing.
Anybody interested? There's a three-pack pre-order thing I could get and give away two of, but I'm not paying all of the $75 :P
Holy shit, this game has everything.
Or will have rather.

4:41 PM
@GnomeSlice Beware of the Molyneux disease.

@fbueckert Well, the trailer already shows a ton of stuff. The game just isn't done yet, is what I meant.
Also, their running animations are... hilarious right now.
Looks like they're trying to do it all with physics simulation

@GnomeSlice Trailers are meant to do a single thing: sell it.
Take it with a massive grain of salt.

@fbueckert I'm aware, but I found it from the list of IGF finalists for 'technical excellence' which is a good sign.
Also, spaceteam
> Spaceteam is a cooperative party game for 2 to 4 players who shout technobabble at each other until their ship explodes.
Ahaha, the iTunes comments.
> This is the best game ever. It is worth making friends just to play this game.

@GnomeSlice That sounds like a lovely premise for a drinking game.

@fbueckert It does, doesn't it.

Q: Eve Online: exploration career for solo gameplay

Samuele Mattiuzzorecently I started to play Eve Online with in mind the world of exploration and scanning. I plan to play as a lonestar most of the time (I'm in a corp anyway) since I tend to log at strange hours usually. My char already is training some required skills (aiming for the basic Cartographer certif...

@kalina Evochron: Mercenary

@SaintWacko Is there a demo for that?

Q: gaming maths (velocity)

Fy2CI am studying a past paper for my exam, and I came across this question, which is somewhat confusing to me. Could anyone walk me through the game math of this problem? In a 2D space-war game, Spaceship A is flying at 5 mph (miles per hour) following a path of 30 degrees south of east. Space...

@GnomeSlice Yes

5:05 PM
@badp I really need to finish the base game
Man, Evochron Mercenary looks way nicer than it did last time I played it
best played with a joystick, by the way

who actually has a joystick plugged into their PC?

@GamingTopicsFromOutside That seems to be a, "I can't be bothered to do my own work" type of question.

@fbueckert every question on SE could be boiled down to that

@SaintWacko This is part of the base game

@kalina No, acceptable SO questions are, "I'm trying to do X, but I'm running into problem Y, and I can't resolve it. I've done Z. What am I doing wrong?"

5:09 PM
@fbueckert or, in its simplest form "I don't know how to do X, tell me!"

@kalina Context is incredibly important.
Boiled down, yes, that's exactly what it is.

@fbueckert I'm not going to get context get in the way of me being right

@kalina You seem to have an inordinate amount of value placed on being correct.

of course, it's such a gratifying feeling
I shouldn't read internet articles on gender in game design

@badp Well, first playthrough
and also referencing the fact that another DLC is coming out
@kalina How about games in gender design?

5:13 PM
@SaintWacko I think there are laws against that kind of things in most countries

@kalina Well, you're the one reading articles about it

What does a "User was removed" rep change mean?

@JohnoBoy It means a user was deleted, and all their upvotes went with them

Ah
-50 in one go, bummer

Ouch
I only got -15

5:15 PM
this, incidentally, means that Mark Trapp never upvoted me
but he did downvote me several times

Why Mark went?

because of the reason

oh.
that explains it

np

I see no reason why user shouldn't stop visiting the site, but why delete your user. Make a statement?

5:17 PM
@JohnoBoy explained

@kalina, try Evochron Mercenary. It's pretty much EVE, but actually flying your own spaceship

@kalina today's user removal wasn't Mark, he got removed a while back.

@agent86 I know this

(just in case you thought the two were related)

And you construct and fit your own ship

5:18 PM
I don't know who died today.

but at the time, I never got any votes removed, I actually gained rep
so I can only assume

@agent86 Pretty sure it's sargent_smith.

@kalina Thanks

@fbueckert did I miss a public meltdown?

The borderlands 2 promo today is apparently that Vermivorous the Invincible has a much better chance of spawning from varkids today. And, when beaten, has a much greater chance of dropping Norfleet. I'm tempted, but I've never fought him before :/

5:20 PM
@agent86 Nah; he just felt he was spending too much time here.

@fbueckert What's wrong with that?

@SaintWacko For us, nothing.
He didn't like it, though.

@fbueckert indeed. I tended to just randomize my password and promptly lose it in those cases :P

@agent86 That's a good idea.

5:23 PM
I am spending too much time here
please delete my account

@kalina Can't. You're a room owner :D

:(
against my wishes
I never asked for this.

@kalina And I find that highly amusing

@kalina quiet, or I'll make you wear sunglasses forever

5:25 PM
@agent86 :O Can you really do that?

So I just update my account to say 'please delete me'

on the plus side, you'll never lose them. on the negative side, they'll be permanently attached to your face.

SERIOUSLY USERS STOP GETTING REMOVED AND TAKING AWAY MY PRECIOUS REP

and then repeatedly spam stackexchange until I overload their inbox and/or activate their spam filters

@SaintWacko this is a DE:HR reference which you may not be getting.

5:26 PM
@agent86 Oh
Yeah, I haven't played that yet
I though it was a hat reference

@StrixVaria I wish I could see how much rep I've given everybody, then I'd wait for Raven to get to 100k and have my account removed to get him back to high 90s

Morning All

;p

@James Good morning. Barely

5:27 PM
I feel sad that I wrote this detailed answer, and all I got was single upvote.

@SaintWacko Barely good or barely morning? :)

DX:HR has some nice music
@fbueckert maybe you should make detailed answers on games people will actually play!

@kalina I do!

@agent86 Ah. I caught @kalina's reference, but forgot about the sunglasses

@fbueckert and look how many upvotes that got!
I even upvoted that

5:28 PM
@fbueckert I will play the tiniest upvote violin for you

I still can't get over how my highest voted answer ever is on meta

We need more KSP questions.
Or maybe I should throw together a server for that merge mod.

@fbueckert raise more KSP questions then

@kalina "What's the most fuel-efficient method to change my orbit?"

@fbueckert do it

5:31 PM
We'd get actual rocket science as answers.

raise 100 questions
all about ksp

@GamingTopicsFromOutside Why is it that almost every question you post seem to be close worthy?

@kalina Sadly, there aren't enough people that play KSP here.

@fbueckert bet there are more than those who play pocket clothier, and that didn't stop you from posting a detailed answer on that

@YiJiang'sEvilClone He's keeping true to its namesake

5:33 PM
@kalina Very true.

@fbueckert I think you should accept the obvious answer on this question
yep, I do think that
</stronghint>

@kalina No, just because I feel like bothering you about it.

oh I'm not bothered about it

@James that's how I feel every morning

5:47 PM
> Super Sexy Deer Hunter Machine

@kalina Same here, and with my folks in town there might be some raging going on when they try to wake me up before I normally get up :D

@James I feel sorry for those of you who don't have an always running brain.

@fbueckert Always running brain?
@fbueckert Is that akin to a runny nose?

> Street Military: 25th Anniversary Edition

@GnomeSlice I don't want to know which adjectives apply where

5:53 PM
@BenBrocka Yeah
