@OrigamiRobot Yes.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Did yOU PLAy the 1994 X-Com games?

@RavenDreamer Ages ago
not recently
@RavenDreamer ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPLY THAT I AM OLD

I AM TRYING TO IMPLY THAT A NEW XCOM GAME IS NIGH
And was simply wondering if you were also preparing to extract enjoyment therefrom.

@RavenDreamer Meh, I'm gonna pass at the moment. no time right now what with being on the road so much and all.

Isn't that the normal definition of your job? On the road a lot?

@RavenDreamer Yes and no.
@RavenDreamer I mean I'm far enough that I'm not going home on weekends atm.
@RavenDreamer once DST ends and I'm stuck working shorter days, I'm sure I'll start finding more time.
Also because at that point I will be in West Virginia.
and, well, yeah.

12:46 AM
I'm so, so sorry

@MarkTrapp Thankfully it's only a week or two.
@MarkTrapp Unfortunately, after West Virginia, I get to go to west Virginia.

user2334
yech

@MarkTrapp Yeaaaaaaaaaah.
Then Atlanta, and then, I dunno, probably back in NYC for a few months.

West Virginia has a glass factory. That was cool when I was a kid, I think.

...really?
That's what passes for starworthy these days?

@RavenDreamer You're star worthy.
Oh burn!

I played the Net Runner Card game today
It was interesting.
Good interesting, though.

@Wipqozn is alive. This is [wonderful/abysmal] news!
@RavenDreamer Android: Netrunner?

@OrigamiRobot That's the one.

I have played it twice. It's neat.

1:05 AM
It took us a while to figure out the rules.
We were halfway through our 2nd game before we realized the corporation was supposed to be drawing cards each turn.

WATCH OUT, A BEAR!

Haha.

@Mana I will pay you to constantly edit all of @Wipqozn's instaces of "tortoise" to "turtle"
I am extending the offer to anyone who has the power to make this happen.

If you want vowels, that's extra.

@Wipqozn 1827 minutes

@RavenDreamer Close enough.

@StrixVaria So excited!

Seriously.

Really bummed about only 1 skyranger / base, though.

I ran out of stuff that I want to play really.

1:44 AM
Minor quibbles, though.

So now I'm just waiting for Tuesday. Unfortunately I still won't be able to play even when the countdown ends because being an adult sucks.

Q: Can't play Civilization 5 with friends

phoenixheart6This is extremely frustrating, and has been an issue for the past month. I cannot play Civilization V over the internet with any of my friends. Whenever I try to play a game with my girlfriend, it says that she disconnected whenever she tries to respond to me in chat (in the setup area before th...

@StrixVaria Hear hear.
@StrixVaria I think I'll have it worse than you, though.
Since I'll be recovering from surgery over the weekend.

@RavenDreamer I have it worse than both of you.

1:56 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz True.

@RavenDreamer :(

Wisdom teeth
get out of my head.

I just got engaged so pretty much all my free time is full of planning activities.

Congrats again.

Thanks!
Also, when you say "surgery" it sounds way more intense than getting some teeth pulled.

1:57 AM
@StrixVaria Wisdom tooth removal is way more intense than just getting some teeth pulled
recovery can be several days of primo narcotics.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I've never had either done. I need to get them removed at my earliest possible convenience, according to my dentist, though.
The wisdom teeth.

@StrixVaria Do get it done. ASAP. The last thing you want is impacted/infected.

Mine actually came into my head like normal teeth pretty much, though. The only reason I have to get them gone now is because one has a cavity that's not worth filling.

I had all 4 become simultaneously impacted and infected.

I only have 2.
The bottom ones just don't exist.

1:59 AM
My gums and cheeks swelled up so badly that I couldn't talk without chewing my mouth open until it bled.
@StrixVaria They're there, they just haven't come in.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Nope. X-Rays show they're not there.

I'll take it, though.

Anyway, wisdom tooth removal is general anesthesia in many cases, and is absolutely surgery. When I had mine out, I was on vicodin for three days recovering on a diet of soft food.

I should probably get that done.

2:10 AM
@StrixVaria I somehow ended up with three...one of which decided to take a pretty near 90 degree turn |:

Clearly I am the highest evolved lifeform on the Bridge.

Getting them out was pretty easy for me though...woke up, hopped out of the chair, had someone drive me back to university, went to class. Only trouble was replacing the gauze and taking some Motrin every now and then. They gave me Percocet, but that definitely didn't agree with me.

Q: Are any steam employees on this site?

phoenixheart6Just wondering if there's any steam employees who are users on this site who answer technical support questions. I have what seems to be a fairly localized problem with steam and I'm wondering if I can expect to hear a solution from someone with some white-box understanding of the issue.

Roxboro ( ) is a city in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is the county seat of Person County. As of the 2010 census, the city of Roxboro has a population of 8,362. The city is 30 miles north of Durham, NC. It is part of the Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Area. History Roxboro is named after a town in Scotland; Roxburgh. Although spelled differently they are pronounced the same. It is so named because of a visit to the town by England's Earl of Roxborough. Prior to the official adoption of the name Roxboro, the community was known as "Mocassin Gap". The city of Roxboro was incorpo...

@OrigamiRobot Welcome to business travel. Leave your humanity at the door.

2:34 AM
The only place I've traveled for work is to Hoboken, which is like 40 minutes away.

@LessPop_MoreFizz This place is smaller than my small hometown!

The only thing I could imagine going further away than that for is maybe some kind of technical conference.

In the future, I may have to go to Finland.

@OrigamiRobot Finland you say.
That is where my employer is.

Our main office is in Finland.

2:37 AM
@OrigamiRobot As is the main office of my company.

We're practically brothers!

@OrigamiRobot Well, maybe cousins.
Once removed.

@StrixVaria Apparently, tables are NOT needed for your canteen. Just chairs.

Finland is a pretty big place.

@fbueckert I don't think tables do anything at all.

2:39 AM
@StrixVaria Except aesthetic value.

Helsinki, apparently.

@OrigamiRobot Well yes, that is the only place in Finland where any company big enough to have lots of employees in the states is likely to be.

I see.

I am now turning my canteen into a conference-esque room

My last game I hired an accountant into an office, and then she wandered out of the office and started complaining that she didn't have an office.

2:42 AM
@OrigamiRobot Although I suppose technically, my company is in Espoo, which is to Helsinki as Newark is to New York City.
Or as Bellevue is to Seattle.
etc. etc. etc.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Newark sucks.

@StrixVaria Well yes, but I was trying to point out it's relationship to New York City as something of a... client city, for lack of a better term.

It's able to continue existing due to proximity to a real city but sucks at everything?

Think bellevue to seattle. Allentown to Philly.

I've technically been to Allentown, but only to go to Dorney Park.
I've never been on the west coast.

2:46 AM
@StrixVaria Wild Water Kingdom yo.
@StrixVaria Think Worcester to Boston.

I should really go to Boston on vacation or something.
I was looking at Baltimore but then pretty much everyone I know said "nah you don't want to go to Baltimore".

@StrixVaria You really don't want to go to Baltimore.
DC is nice though.

I think DC and Boston are the two big cities that are an appropriate driving distance away to make a good vacation.

@StrixVaria Yup.

Never been to either, although I have driven past DC once.

2:48 AM
You should go to DC.

Vacation in a city? ugh

The Smithsonian alone could keep you busy for weeks.
@OrigamiRobot Best kind of vacation.
Cities are awesome.

@OrigamiRobot Pretty much all of my vacations growing up were to the middle of nowhere in upstate New York.
City vacations are a good change of pace.

I'll take mountains and/or a lake any day.
@LessPop_MoreFizz If you say so.

@OrigamiRobot There are some magical cities that have mountains and lakes in them.

2:50 AM
Ugh it's so late. Must sleep.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Downgrade it to a town and we'll talk.

@OrigamiRobot Well, by my standards, there are only three 'cities' in the US. The rest are all trumped up towns.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Then maybe village is a more appropriate term for you.

Really, there's only 2, because Los Angeles, while it has the numbers, is really just 72 suburbs stitched together in search of a city.
@OrigamiRobot You mean like Charlotte?

@LessPop_MoreFizz I would never consider a Charlotte sized city/town/whatever a vacation spot.

2:54 AM
@OrigamiRobot You said a village! Less than a million people, I don't know what else to call it.

Bryson City is a town in Swain County, North Carolina in the United States. The population was 1,353 as of 2009, a decrease of 4.1% since the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Swain County. Geography Bryson City is located at (35.426982, -83.447681), just west of the confluence of the Tuckasegee River, which flows westward from its source in the mountains to the east, and Deep Creek, which flows south from its source near Newfound Gap in the Great Smoky Mountains. After passing through Bryson City and flowing around the Bryson City Island Park, the Tuckasegee flows southwestward for...
That's what I'm talking about.

@OrigamiRobot That's not a town, or even a village. That's like... that's just a couple of buildings that happen to be near each other.

@LessPop_MoreFizz A hamlet?

@LessPop_MoreFizz That's what I call a vacation.

@Fluttershy Maybe like 10 or 20 of those combined might be a hamlet.
@OrigamiRobot You ought to come to New York sometime. I bet you would be surprised.

2:58 AM
A village is a clustered human settlement or community, larger than a hamlet with the population ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand (sometimes tens of thousands), Though often located in rural areas, the term urban village is also applied to certain urban neighbourhoods, such as the East Village in Manhattan, New York City and the Saifi Village in Beirut, Lebanon, as well as Hampstead Village in the London conurbation. Villages are normally permanent, with fixed dwellings; however, transient villages can occur. Further, the dwellings of a village are fairly close to one anoth...

@LessPop_MoreFizz I have been to New York. Not NYC though.

@OrigamiRobot YOU KNOW WHAT I MEANT

No I don't. Everytime someone says New York, my brain goes to NYC and then they get mad because they don't mean that.

@Fluttershy Well yes, but we've already established that I have the warped perspective of a person from a city with a population larger than the next three largest cities combined
@OrigamiRobot Well I meant NYC.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I wonder what you would do if I introduced you to my hometown.

3:03 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz If I went to NYC, I would just stay inside and sleep or something.
Way too many people.

@fbueckert Considering where I am right now, I don't think it would be that impressive to you.
@OrigamiRobot Nobody sleeps in NYC! It's the city that never sleeps!

@LessPop_MoreFizz Seeing as how I think the total population was around ~2,000, it was a sleepy little town.

@StrixVaria I recommend the Native American Museum so you can have a buffalo burger.
Because buffalo are delicious.

Freeport is a town in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. The population was 7,879 at the 2010 census. Known for its numerous outlet stores, Freeport is home to L.L. History The town was once a part of North Yarmouth called Harraseeket, after the Harraseeket River. First settled about 1700, it was set off and incorporated on February 14, 1789 as Freeport. It is probably named "from the openness of its harbor" (fre...
I am in a tiny town myself right now.

@LessPop_MoreFizz That's the kind of places I like. I am NOT a fan of cities.

3:08 AM
@fbueckert You people are weird. Cities are fucking awesome.

I want less people not more.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I grew up being able to see the horizon. And being able to see the stars.
THAT is what I like.

@OrigamiRobot Misanthrope.
@fbueckert Luddite.

@LessPop_MoreFizz No, just not a fan of idiots.
Which is what cities are populated with.

@LessPop_MoreFizz People are terrible. The more people, the more terrible.

3:15 AM
@fbueckert While the absolute number is certainly higher, I find the percentage of the total population to be far lower.
And more to the point, in a big city, you get to be pickier about who you associate with. Idiots become easier to avoid.

In other news, mac & cheese is delicious.

Q: Should this become "Alcohol Enthusiasts"?

@LessPop_MoreFizz oh ok, ill use the Myst tag thanks

@Fluttershy Quite the opposite.

Q: How do I stop smelling like a wet dog?

kotekzotWhenever I meet a guard, they nonchalantly tell me I smell of wet dog. That was par for the course when I was a lycanthrope, but I got better. According to UESP, guards may refer to you as a werewolf even if you have been cured of lycanthropy. How can I make the game realize that I'm no longer a ...

11:09 AM
Without having played the game I can't tell

@kotekzot You answered your own question in your question. "I know the wiki tells me it's not possible, but come on, really. How do I do it?"

@StrixVaria the wiki doesn't say it's not possible though

> According to UESP, guards may refer to you as a werewolf even if you have been cured of lycanthropy.

and even if it did, the wiki only covers vanilla Skyrim and not mods

From your own question.
Mod-req is off topic.
File a bug ticket with Bethesda

11:11 AM
So no question about how to work around a bug is on-topic?

IMO not when the bug literally doesn't affect gameplay at all.

@kotekzot I don't know about off topic, but I do know that most of them are kind of bad questions because they're just fundamentally unanswerable beyond 'reload your save'

That's a topic we could debate forever, though, and I don't want to get into blanket policy.

Dialogue is a pretty important part of gameplay for an RPG

When you start talking about blanket policy there is always some kind of example question that makes the policy look silly. That's why blanket policy is silly.

11:14 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz I think this question is easily answerable by somebody with a modicum of Creation Kit knowledge

@kotekzot Creating mods is off topic.
Ask on game-dev.

Find line -> check conditions -> ??????? -> PROFIT
@StrixVaria I'm not asking about mods
I'm asking about dealing with a bug

5 mins ago, by kotekzot
and even if it did, the wiki only covers vanilla Skyrim and not mods

Also, the CK avenue could easily result in the answer being a console command and not a mod

Ugh
Honestly, I could just as easily vote to close this particular question as "not constructive".

11:16 AM
A mod is one of the many potential ways to fix the problem
Well, insofar as clicking 1 things is as easy as clicking another
I don't see how it's not constructive - it's a discrete problem that can be potentially solved

@StrixVaria This is more on the side of something that makes the policy look silly, but I don't have to agree with policies to enforce them

@badp I never said a mod is the only way to fix it.

It should be a console command; probably just a player.RemoveFromFaction(...), if my knowledge of the engine (based on Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3) is of any help.

@MartinSojka wouldn't it be listed there if it was something a console command could fix?

@MartinSojka or some player variable like "WerewolfState = 2" where 2 = cured
@badp because everything on a wiki is perfect and can never be improved

11:27 AM
Where "there", on the UESP wiki? They don't update that fast, and some bugs needed years to be found out and documented (like the "disappearing chunks of land" in Oblivion).

No, that would defeat the purpose of a wiki

@kotekzot The game's been out for... a year now?

So everything on a wiki is pefect after a year

@kotekzot Your sarcasm is helping us see your point of view on this question.

@kotekzot In the case of a game like Skyrim? It's a lot more likely than not.

11:30 AM
I should go invalidate my close vote right now...

@LessPop_MoreFizz you don't say!

@badp The "disappearing chunks of land" in Oblivion bug was found and fixed in 2011, five years after release.

1 min ago, by StrixVaria
@kotekzot Your sarcasm is helping us see your point of view on this question.

This recursive sarcasm is getting confusing

@kotekzot Are you being sarcastic?

11:41 AM
@fredley sometimes.

@kotekzot Ok, it's a dialogue bug (there is also a quest bug with lycantropy cure, but that's unrelated). USKP will fix it, since they have it on their bug tracker already: bugzilla.darkcreations.org/show_bug.cgi?id=307#c12
Current version has no fix yet: iguanadons.net/…
99% sure that's the correct answer, but since I don't have Skyrim, I can't verify it - so someone who has would have to check it and post the answer.

@MartinSojka I've had a gander in CK and apparently the only trigger for werewolf dialogue is that you've completed the quest stage for becoming a werewolf, not whether you currently are one
Well, that and the speaker having the correct voice

Exactly.

@kotekzot Why not just find the relevant audio file and replace it with a silent one?

You could remove the quest in a save game editor too, I guess.

11:48 AM
@LessPop_MoreFizz that never occurred to me, not a bad idea.

@LessPop_MoreFizz You actually listen to dialogue?!?

@MartinSojka Well @kotekzot clearly does, if it annoys him this much.

I readily confess that I do.

The worst part is that it'll be out, and I'll have to get up and go to work. Then come home and watch the kiddo, as the wife works. Then maybe, at 9pm tomorrow, if the kiddo decides to stay asleep, I'll get a solid hour or two of play in!
Meanwhile, @agent86 and @StrixVaria will be all like, "Yeah, man, already beat that game. It's old."

Morning, Bridge

There is nothing good about mornings.

@Sterno I have to work tomorrow.
I won't be able to play until ~6:30 :(

1:02 PM
Anyone know what the WOW exploit was?
the articles are frustratingly vague about it, other than "it killed everyone in the cities"

@Sterno You'll note that I said nothing about good mornings

@SaintWacko Fair point!
@StrixVaria We're going to be too slow to soak up all the delicious XCOM rep

@Sterno I had that problem with BL2 :(

I was really hoping to beat BL2 by tomorrow, since I know I'll probably never finish it once XCOM and Dishonored come out

@Sterno Ha! I just hit 20 last night. But I know I'll finish BL2, considering BL1 is my favorite game

1:06 PM
BL2 made me remember I liked BL1 more than I thought I did.
I really enjoyed BL1 right up until I beat it, and then I had no desire to replay

I also found my first purple weapon last night

Imagine BL2 will be the same

Well, first nice purple weapon
besides Moxxi's guns
@Sterno Oh, I replayed BL1 quite a bit

I've had a way-overpowered sniper rifle since about level 13. Well, it was way overpowered. Now that I'm level 27, it's about "average power level". 350-ish damage per hit. Crits for 3k-4k

It's the same story, but it still feels different with different classes and weapon types

1:07 PM
Sniper rifles are fun right up until you can't one-shot people in the head anymore.

@Sterno My main sniper rifle does 333 damage, then I have a slag sniper rifle that does 278 damage and has a 50% chance to slag, and a corrosive sniper rifle that does 248 damage
I can't wait to hit 50 so I can use my golden keys

I've seen TV commercials for Dishonored and it looks awesome but it doesn't actually tell me what kind of game it is.
I could read about it, but I don't have Internet.

I was sad when the Fink's Slaughterhouse challenges ran out.

What's the deal with that game?

@StrixVaria It's supposedly some sort of cross between Thief and Hitman, in that you've got objectives and it's very open-ended about how you get them done.
Whether or not it actually delivers remains to be seen

1:13 PM
Oh but if it's Thief/Hitman then it's stealth.

@StrixVaria Same here, looks like fun, but I doubt I'll get it until it goes on sale on Steam

Well, it CAN be stealth

I should just suck it up and actually try stealthing in a game for once.

It's also a lot more magical though. From what I can tell, you can possess people and walk around as them. Or summon rat swarms to eat them.

I get a little bit too impatient and jumpy when I try to do that, and usually wind up accidentally murdering everybody.
@Sterno Those things both sound awesome.

I think it shoots for a more Deus Ex form of stealth... you can do it if you want, or you can just shoot everyone in the head.
I've tried to avoid too many spoilers though.
@StrixVaria Your XCOM news of the day.
And while you're at it, a Dishonored review

Yay stuff to read!

Yay links I can't follow!
:(

I had to restart Chrome to not crash the whole browser clicking on them, which was weird
Now they work fine, though.

@StrixVaria Rock Paper Shotgun is blocked at work for me

Still can't decide if I'm going to try a bit of Normal, or jump straight to Classic ironman

1:26 PM
I'm kind of waffling on that decision too.
It's the kind of game that almost demands multiple playthroughs, but I'm the kind of gamer who has a lot of difficulty playing stuff again.
I kind of stubborned my way through Diablo 3 for a long time just because I refused to see any of its flaws, but XCOM doesn't get any nostalgia bonuses from me.
So I don't know whether I want to do a normal playthrough to learn the game and then move up to classic, or if I should just jump in headfirst and treat it more like a roguelike, where I don't even expect to finish the game the first 100 times.

Leaning towards Classic Ironman. Worst case scenario is I die and have to restart, having learned stuff. That seems roughly equivalent to me having played on Normal, learned stuff, and then restarting on Classic Ironman
Besides, then new enemy types can totally rape my squad and kill all my best guys the first time I see them, since I won't be ready for them. Just like God intended!

Q: Shooting vs. melee when fighting boarding parties

TARehmanI noticed that, when two people are fighting against a single intruder in one room, one fighter usually moves closer and fights with the intruder hand-to-hand, while the other stands back and shoots them with something (lasers for the humans, little rock things for rockmen, etc). Is there any ben...

@Sterno Yeah, that should be fun. I still remember my first time running into those things that make your guys into zombies
That was... interesting

@StrixVaria Now that I'm reading the Dishonored review, it may be more stealthy than I though. Dishonored is almost certainly the finest stealth game I’ve played since the dawn of The Metal Age.

@SaintWacko Chrysalids. The main reason why I usually had laser rifles as primary weapon for most squads ... Cheap, light, no ammo and a damn high fire rate.

1:37 PM
@MartinSojka Yeah, those things. I used laser rifles as soon as I had them. I actually think I had them on that mission. Later in it, I was advancing through a mall and one of my guys looks in a doorway and there's a Chrysalid just a space away o.0
Fortunately he was able to kill it by going full auto with the laser rifle

Dishonored is sounding good.
5) Rats will eat all of your flesh, but not if you distract them with a corpse to chew on. I once shot a guard with a sleeping dart and was then horrified to see a swarm of rats converge on his fallen form and strip it down to the bones.
That, really, is the only marketing they need to sell 10% more copies.
