I made a Twitter account to follow Mith, and now I'm having way too much fun learning how Twitter works since i've never used it before. There are so many gays
And a lot of angry people yelling about news

GURPS Discworld and the related supplements are role-playing game sourcebooks set in Terry Pratchett's Discworld fantasy universe using the GURPS role-playing game system. GURPS Discworld was designed by Phil Masters (in collaboration with Pratchett) and first published in 1998. == Contents == The game included a lot of detail about Discworld, appealing to both roleplaying and Discworld fans. Holy crap

Sid
hello folks.

6:22 PM

6:54 PM
Hi all
When I said I could start earlier this week... I wasn't anticipating my wife having more mental health difficulties. I should be ready no later than 9pm my time though

7:22 PM
@AncientSwordRage no worries
wasn't expecting to start early in any case

Ok that's good, finished helping wife, getting ready for d&d now (takes me a while so still aiming for 9pm my time)
@Mithical I've played it, it's alright

7:37 PM
oh?

From what I remember, it's just GURPS + setting?
I don't remember any mechanical aspect that you'd need the book for
If I were to run a Discworld campaign (and I couldn't anytime soon unfortunately) I'd run it using FATE, because that system basically runs on narrativium

7:52 PM
I have something scheduled for exactly 3PM my time, so I may need to scoot quick.

I'm here!

am present

@Sciborg
ping!
Last session we left off here:
Sep 23 at 21:37, by bobble
"an elllllllffffff?"
Fin was about to get to the library, and I don't think we'd covered Sheri's morning yet

8:09 PM
yesterday, by Mithical
*mumbles something about Prestidigitation, sleepless nights, and lots of iced coffee*
That about covers Sherri's evening and morning.
After which I feel confident enough to say that Sherri can now cast Prestidigitation at will, properly.

Aghh sorry there's stuff going on. Okay

@Mithical nice!
@Sciborg sure you're ok?
real life >>>>> D&D

@Sciborg I don't mind holding off if you need a bit more time

(those are greater than signs, not arrows pointing)
@Mithical same

We left off with Teri at Oakwinkle's house, Sherri at home about to start her morning, and Fin about to head back to the library. I'm not sure who wants to start since we're all in different places.

8:15 PM
@Sciborg (I think the other two need to catch up time wise unless the library isn't open until after ~9am)
> It is now 8:45 A.M. on Friday, March 27th in Palo Fresco
that was last time

(@bobble you here?)

Yeah, didn't think I was needed?

just checking that everyone's around

We can start with Sherri, then go to Teri, and then visit Fin.

(đź‘Ś)

8:19 PM
What is Sherri's apartment like?

(sorry, was writing a general overview of the evening / morning rather than getting into too many specifics... one sec)
@Sciborg Rather full of boxes at the moment, since she never really got around to unpacking. There are various clothes and magazines scattered throughout the house, with books stacked in the corners - she's not the neatest when it comes to the apartment.
There are a lot of teddy bears around the place, though.
To sum up Sherri's evening / morning quickly... Spending a rather sleepless night going over the events of the previous evening, including the revelation that magic exists, she spent a large section of the night attempting to replicate the magic she had pulled off then, ending up with more-or-less reliably being able to cast Prestidigitation. After checking her email to find that absolutely none of the inquiries she sent out about modeling positions had received a response, she'll head out - rather sleep-deprived - to buy a couple iced coffees and make her way trepidatiously over to the lib

The morning is fairly cloudy, and most of the pedestrians passing by are off to their jobs. There are a lot of crows and pigeons sitting in the trees and pecking at the sidewalk for scraps, and some kids outside playing basketball. Besides the car horns and the distant rattling of the subway, it's a relatively peaceful day.
When you arrive at the library, you note the same gray Toyota from yesterday parked in the lot.
A few kids by the entrance are playing on their phones and muttering something about Pokestops.

"Oh, great," Sherri mutters to herself upon spotting the car. "I hope that guy's not going to think I'm some friend of his again."

The library doesn't appear to be open yet, which is odd for the very prompt Oakwinkle. There are a few people sitting in the outside seating areas with their kids, waiting for Oakwinkle to come and unlock the doors; you note the detective sitting with the Asian man who visited yesterday in one of the outside tables, poring over some notebooks and binders as a little girl plays nearby.

[Does Sherri have a phone number for Oakwinkle?]

8:30 PM
(Yes)

Taking the scene in, Sherri is going to sit down in that same outside seating area - near the kids, not right next to the detective - and shoot a quick text message to Oakwinkle: Hey Mr. Oakwinkle, I came in to the library but it appears to still be closed. There are people waiting outside. What's the story? XXX, Sherri

The "typing" notification bubble comes up for about 5 solid minutes, before finally popping back: Speaking to Teri at the moment. We will be slightly later than usual.

She sends back the thumbsup emoji, a bit surprised at how long it took for him to type that. Guess he's not the best with his phone. He's like ancient, what do you expect, she thinks to herself.

The little girl playing nearby looks your way, then comes up to you, holding a stuffed wolf plushie tightly, and stares intently at your phone. "Hi, Miss. Do you have games on your phone?"

Sherri smiles at her. "Sorry, dearie, but I don't. I do have a rather nice gallery of these fancy ballgown dresses I'm designing, though. Do you want to see those, sweetie?"

8:37 PM
"Ooh, I like dresses." The girl leans to see. "Are they sparkly?"

"Some of them are!" Sherri pulls up the gallery, which has several extremely sparkly sequinned dresses; a couple that are red, twisty, and flame-like; and one extremely hideous one that is just covered with teddy bears. Sherri is modeling all of them, and for the teddy bear one she is wearing a pair of bear ears.

The girl gasps. "I love the fire one! It's like a fee-nix!"
"Shae, don't talk to strangers, darling," the detective calls sharply, and the girl hastens to move away and return to the safe zone by his table. He looks over at you, clearly about to apologize, and then double-takes with deep amusement. "Ah, yes. Especially not strangers who can cast spells on your father."

Sherri blinks. "I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about, sir."

"Of course," he says, amusedly, as the other man looks over curiously. "We're friends, aren't we? Don't worry, I don't hold grudges. It was actually very clever."

"No, no, I'm... I'm actually serious. If I did cast anything, I'm afraid it was totally by accident, dar- sir. I only learned that magic is apparently a real thing last night."

8:46 PM
The man looks surprised. "Ah," he says. "Well, in that case, you're quite the powerful accidental sorceror. Oakwinkle had told me you weren't..."

Sherri cocks her head. "Do you mean to say Oakwinkle knew I could do magic and he didn't tell me?"

He trails off and picks up his notebook. "Never mind. If anything this makes my plans to interview you about the events of last night much more convenient. Do you mind giving me a few statements?"
He quite clearly makes an effort to avoid answering your question.

She crosses her arms. "You can't just drop a bombshell like that and not elaborate... detective? Is that correct?"

(Where is Fin?)

[don't want to hog RP time... cut to someone else?]

8:49 PM
(Fin or Teri can arrive at any point here)

@bobble (watching possibly?)
(@bobble feel free to jump in)

"Detective Robert Grimsley, yes. I'm with the Poe & Grimsley Detective Agency in Battarouge." He settles down at the table across from you and opens his notebook to a fresh page. "I admit that I suspected Oakwinkle wasn't being entirely honest with me, when he said you two weren't part of our world. I think he was well aware that you were both gifted."
The other man quietly migrates to sit nearby, shooing Shae gently to go play with her friends.

Sherri picks up her phone again, angrily. "I am going to chew his ear off. The old geezer..."

(something's come up, give me 5min if that's ok)

Teri would have been jabbering questions at Oakwinkle as she temporarily lost self-control from shock. Which would probably continue up until the point they, presumably together (?), approached the library and she realized that other people were around.

8:54 PM
“Easy. That old geezer is a good man.” Robert takes out a fountain pen and readies it. “Now, can you describe what happened shortly before the incident, during and after?”

She reluctantly puts the phone down again and sighs. "Alright, darling, alright."

In the background, Oakwinkle unlocks the library doors, looking very weary, and allows some of the patrons inside, murmuring to Teri that she should find where Sherri ran off to.

"I assume the "incident" you're referring to is when Oakwinkle kicked everyone out of the library because something went missing. He still hasn't told me exactly what happened."

looks for Sherri (roll..?)

(@Sciborg what can Fin see?)

8:58 PM
@bobble (Perception)

7+3=10

@AncientSwordRage As the patrons head inside the now-unlocked library, you note that a few people have lingered outdoors, including the fashionable woman you recall from the front desk talking to a man in a detective’s duster and a few children playing hopscotch.
@bobble You barely spot Sherri sitting at one of the outdoor tables; the kids running around made her hard to notice.

"Hey. O- Mr. Oakwinkle said to find you"

@Sciborg (will roll stealth to sneak in when I'm able)

@Mithical "Well, dear, it was a pretty normal day, as far as I remember... there was that kid who tried to run off with a Harry Potter book - poor boy has no taste - and then I was talking to some kid who was checking out Rainbow Fairy books. Oakwinkle started shouting after that." She thinks for a moment. "Oh, and there was some little girl who somehow knew my name... but now I assume that was just magic." She shoots the detective a dirty look.
@bobble "Oh, hello, Teri dear. Oakwinkle texted me that you two would be late today." She's still giving a look to the detective.

9:04 PM
Robert scribbles a mess of shorthand notes on his pad. “And then?”

Teri smooths down her outfit (bomber jacket, shirt advertising a 10-years-old 5k for cancer awareness, slightly too large jeans) in an attempt to look more put-together.
slides towards library door

Sherri shrugs. "Oakwinkle started shouting, got all weird, and he kicked everyone out of the library, including me. You showed up, and I think you know the rest."

(@Sciborg 9+4=13 for Fin's stealth check)

“Interesting.” He writes this down. “Were you aware of the room’s true purpose?”

Sherri gives him a blank stare. "Were? Try the present tense, sweetie, and the answer is the same: No. Nobody has actually explained anything to me, as of yet, you see, darling. Now, if you'll excuse me, dearie, I think I have an old man to scold."

9:15 PM
“Wait -“ He sighs and closes his notebook. “Oh, all right. That’s enough to go on.”

Sherri has already started towards the library, seeking out Teri and Oakwinkle.

(I think our pizza arrived, one moment)
(ok)

[cut to Fin?]

(works for me)

@AncientSwordRage You successfully sneak back into the library. Oakwinkle is currently unpacking his briefcase at the front desk, and parents are dispersing into the kids’ section.

9:22 PM
Fin starts to frantically look for books on Haunted Books, probably mistaking the fiction section for the non-fiction section for a while

The only volumes you find are Neil Gaiman books, horror novels and Wicca literature.

Fin starts to panic... she is terrified of being discovered

(Where’s Teri at?)

Fin looks round for another section of books, glances down at the stowaway book, and the idea of looking for owls crosses her mind. "No, not now, lets stay focused" she mumbles

Attempting to boot up one of the computers for someone - it's an old one that she normally start poking at ten minutes before opening time.
Though she's stealing glances at waves hands the situation

9:30 PM
Fin sighs and tries to compose herself, hoping she doesn't smell to bad from Brynne's den and her past bin rummaging. She leaves behind shelves in absolute disarray, and starts to nonchallantly walk towards the front desk
Fin tries to run her hands through her hair as she walks, and gives up on the tangled mess part way through

(Do y’all need me to push you together or something? :p)

(who's at the wrong desk?)

Could I roll to see/recognize Fin?

Go for it

Perception?

9:38 PM
Sherri's on her way over to Oakwinkle, but seeing nobody behind the front desk and someone approaching, sighs and sits down at the front desk because nobody else is.

(I think Fin is probably quite recognizable...)

And you don't get advantage by hiding since I have Alert :)
11+3=14

(Fin's not stealthing atm)
Fin see's somebody it's at the front desk and changes direction to approach them
"Uh, I need to know about books, uhmmm... please?" Fin says, looking up at Sherri

Sherri tiredly looks... down, I guess, at Fin. "That's... a very broad question, sweetie. What specifically do you need to know, darling?"

(Must scoot at this time unfortunately. Sorry for slow RPing)

9:43 PM
"So...I need..." Fin pauses to think, realises she was called sweetie, and refocuses. "So if a book was haunted... not a book I have, just one in general... how could I learn more about it?"

seeya mick, thanks for session

(@Sciborg I was also not as free as I'd like, but you did good!)
Thanks everybody!

we will at some point all get together... we just apparently like extended RP that doesn't lend itself super well to forming a party :p
