spam on main-site; been there for an hour now :(

I'm quite late to noticing gems on the Cracking the Cryptic channel, just solved this now and it was a bit neat

@bobble where?
@msh210 I thought this was an update the last puzz I saw, until I checked chat history
Frances was a saint, non?
(Not Francis, St Frances of Rome)
VANITY is the only other 6 letter sin I can think of
unless we're creatively allowing SEATUP for sinful toilet etiquette :D
working backwards from SAINT -> VANITY you'd need to subtract an 'S', and add a 'VY'

11:11 AM
"sin" could maybe clue vanity but i don't think "sinful" can since it's an adjective and vanity is a noun

@Jafe I've also thought it could be to put SIN inside a word, so that word is full of sin (Sinful(l))

11:36 AM
hmm that's clever

neither A(SIN)ND nor AN(SIN)D are words
BISING is also not a word
S a IN ts would be a construction, but I've not got anywhere to get the ATS from 'Grand'
unless: Grand (Prix) -> ATS (Automobili Turismo e Sport)
I'm not quite convinced though
I'll give it a stab though
@msh210 is the answer SAINTS with the explanation above?

11:57 AM
maybe it's SIN (sinful?) + G (grand) + ER (like, as in an utterance indicating hesitation)

@Jafe also possible

def is "Frances, perhaps"

@AncientSwordRage it's not, I'm afraid

@msh210 don't be afraid

12:02 PM
@Jafe also not my intention (and it'd be a part-of-speech mismatch, methinks)

rats, back to the drawing board
4

12:23 PM
Why are you calling the rats back to your drawing board?

@msh210 Rats backward is stars
the drawing board hence must mean the starboard

hehehe

@Jafe is asking for their messages to be starred
QED

fair point

12:51 PM
@AncientSwordRage I guess Jafe's been drinking too much Port.

that requires a stern response

takes a bow

@msh210 I used to be a puzzler like you, until I took an arrow to the knee

Aft-erwards I got a job as an Off-Topic Guard

@TakingNotes I bet you were Prow-ed of that

1:06 PM
@msh210 Katniss enters the room

1 hour later…
2:22 PM
@AncientSwordRage it got nuked sometime after that chat message

@bobble oh that's good
how's Bobble?

bobble has to go to the eye doctor today

the Eye Doctor?!
Doctor of Eyes or the doctor who is an Eye

former, sadly - the latter would be more interesting
oh, a gerbil! Hi @BeastlyGerbil
Gerbil, have you met the ferret?

2:39 PM
::smiles nervously/unnervingly::

2:51 PM
@bobble agreed
I'm visualising a beholder from D&D in surgical gear

@bobble heya, and I think so a while ago, havent been active for a bit so maybe not :)

Did you get into a university?

Hopefully! Finished bout a month ago, but still have to wait another month to find out my results
Lots of fiddly stuff to organise in the mean time

Any puzzles cooking?

Not right now, but I want to start a couple so hopefully :P have a feeling I may be a lil rusty

2:59 PM
if you make another crazy Sudoku I'll throw an upvote your way :)

I don't want to do too many of them in case I wear out the concept, but I'm thinking that might be a good place to restart, as I feel confident I can make a decent one

@BeastlyGerbil if we did it must have been in chat...?

Just need to think of a few ideas

data.stackexchange.com/puzzling/query/25355/have-we-met says we've not interacted on any site you've been on

Does that count chat?

3:02 PM
@AncientSwordRage I recognise your pp so probably from chat!

@BeastlyGerbil My PP ??

profile picture

Oh profile picture
@bobble beat me to it

I should probably have clarified that whoops

@BeastlyGerbil no problem
I've seen similar ambiguities around DP (display picture), which also has other connotations

3:06 PM
I can... see how that could be misinterpreted quite badly

woot, I finished draft clues for the variety cryptic I've been working on!

@bobble YAY
@BeastlyGerbil yup!
I try and use Avatar

I'm going to take a few days to make sure they're good-good, then I might ask Deus to check to that the core mechanism makes enough sense :) since I've never tried something like this before
Also, I might get started on writing the introductory story which has been percolating in the back of my head and wow brain why did you offer "percolating" to me you are the weirdest

@bobble percolating is a fine word

Q: A tough Word-Nurikabe puzzle

ABcDexterI came up with this Word Nurikabe Puzzle, which was NOT a part of the Puzzle Ramayan, the qualifiers for Indian Puzzle Championship. Rules Place the given words in the grids ‘islands’, so that the words are readable in orthogonally (horizontally and vertically) connected cells. I...
