I wonder if there's a way to change what Community bumps, potentially to ignore questions with , and , given that they're "closed" questions
In the past 3 days, it's bumped 3 meta questions, 2 of which were tagged with , which is a rare amount of activity

@Neil Animations with CSS are annoying when you're injecting them with JS
Plus then I can't make it sync across all tabs :p

BubblerPolyagony layout (mode 3/3,6) code-golf ascii-art string Background Polyagony is a family of hypothetical esolangs where the source code is laid out on a specifically shaped board before running it. It's similar to Hexagony, but various uniform tilings can be used instead of a simple hexagon. The...

YT comments are down, can anyone repro?

4:31 AM
hi

@RedwolfPrograms I'm getting wheel of death

Seems it's a YT-wide issue then :/

Who downvotes a video of a cat slapping a seal, that's what I wanna know

4:37 AM
Animal rights activists?

If they didn't want to see cat-seal-slappage then why click the video :p
It's hardly animal rights abuse when it's an animal messing with another animal :p

True
Do you like DSO?
It has twice as many languages as ATO!
"languages"

> this.activeMode.run is not a function

Don't press 'run' before you've loaded a language
It doesn't work
It has dynamic module loading stuff which... is a bit of a mess.

Ah, it's because it initially visually appears to have deadfish selected when nothing is

4:44 AM
Oh true
I'm working on various HQ9+ dialects right now
I'll autoload it

Is DSO Wasm-based, or does it use a server?

Neither

Oh, it's JS based

Vanilla JS

Looks cool!

4:47 AM
thx
I'll add permalinking... later.

The online interpreter market is going to be quite fragmented lol
It's already quite the alphabet soup of in-development ones lol

as we can see from worldwide examples of successful capitalist free markets, this competition will drive innovation and better society, right? :p
the yuno interpreter just makes a server call to my server, fetches the python source code, and sends it to TIO to run xD

TIO, ATO, DSO, TIB (?), RTO ...

this means it's slow, but i also don't have to reload the page to have code changes update

4:58 AM
RTO (mine) is the first I'm aware of that will allow people to submit their own languages
JS/Wasm based ones are good for most esolangs, but they'll never be able to do what TIO does because more practical languages are large and slow enough that running them in the browser won't be possible

yeah, I think being able to extend/maintain it with contributors is definitely a very important component

I can see a lot of fragementation now and in the future because of these factors

I mean, it's already impossible to stop or really revert existing fragmentation.

DSO is esolangs only tho

Since TIO is unfortunately no longer being brought up to date, the omniprescence of TIO as the CGCC interpreter is no longer as strong and as people create languages, it'll likely only get worse :/

5:03 AM
I'm hoping I'll be able to make RTO robust and maintainable enough that it can take over that role, although that's a very high bar and it'll take a huge amount of work
Plus I won't have my main development laptop for at least a month :/

rto?

Run This Online (name stolen from pxeger :p), my attempt at an online interpreter
Currently working on the front-end aesthetics, which are based off of my Risky interpreter but with a dark theme toggle

cool
lonk?

Nothing to link to yet, it's still mostly in the planning stage
The last two weeks have been extremely busy, so I haven't been able to work on it much and I'm still trying to get all of my current projects organized

In minecraft, can spiders climb slabs?
(prefer not to find out by trying)

5:10 AM
Not to my knowledge

I come up with ideas for projects about twice as often as I get motivated to work on exisiting ones :|

lol

How are these dark theme aesthetics?

Maybe make the input field background slightly lighter?

5:14 AM
I like them being darker, though
I'll try lighter

ko
*ok

I actually do kind of like that
Although I like the dark version too :p

the latter is better IMO
also your dropdown should have more right padding

The dropdown's going to be removed for the actual one, I'm just using Risky's interpreter for testing the palette
(Also changing the padding doesn't affect the arrow :/)

5:21 AM
I'm not sure if changing the background color of the inputs is needed though, it looks kind of ugly to me

true. what if you make the background a bit lighter

I think I like the darker background more tbh

fair enough

> border: 1px solid #808080808080;
Don't know what happened here

nice

5:25 AM
how much you wanna bet it was a poorly done find-replace :p

I think it was actually a poorly done manual find and replace, where I tried to double click and paste but only single clicked :p

Text's lack of a find and replace (or even a good find) is probably it's biggest drawback

Hey you should totally add syntax highlighting to RTO
It's really cool

I could never be a UI designer lol, everything looks slightly off the more I try to tweak it
Anyway, it's getting a bit late here so I'll see y'all tomorrow o/

5:30 AM
bye
@lyxal it only works for vylight
because vyxal is one language

But if RTO used codemirror, it could work
Because Vylight is just an extension isn't it?

Having to implement or have somebody implement syntax highlighting for a zillion and eighteen languages isn't going to be fun though. Might make it optional :p

@lyxal True, Vylight is a single language mode, +css.
@RedwolfPrograms It'll exist for most

Random idea: Put a red border around the left, top, and right of a YT video's thumbnail, so people like me will be forced to watch the whole thing to make it look nice and consistent

might work on you
also maybe me
gosh playing minecraft ehile chatting is hard

5:39 AM
okay but the play progress is not always consistent (at least i feel) so i think that'd just piss me off lol
but the thing is it's only inconsistent if you're partway through - if you watch none of it, it's just a box with three sides which isn't as nice as all four edges, but is still alright

Then put a partial border on the bottom too :p
Make it go from the right
No, the left
That way they have to watch it all
The speed of light seems really fast but it's actually super slow even for communication with something as close as Mars. Stupid universe being big and stuff.

breaking news: things exist on a relativistic scale :p

Imagine Star Wars without FTL...
Kind of ruins the tension when 99% of the movie is just the main character sitting in a ship for ten years to get to the next system lol
At least it'd be better than RoS

star wars dialogue is quite awful
without the speed of the narrative or the cool visual tricks + worldbuilding it'd be just bad

I like almost everything about the prequels...but the dialogue is definitely something (in the worst possible way)
At least the memes are good
But they're not the sort of memes you would hear from a Jedi

5:51 AM
is OOP pronounced as O-O-P or oop

Just a heads up, I've only ever seen episode IV

@PyGamer0 Can't imagine anyone who pronounces it "oop" would be taken seriously :p

@PyGamer0 oof

@lyxal it is the best...

@RedwolfPrograms apparently my ENTIRE CLASS AS WELL AS THE TEACHER DO IT

5:53 AM
@Ausername IMO V and VI are better :p

what if i said 7/8/9 are the best

@PyGamer0 Run, get away while you still can :p

IX has that cool scene at the end

@RedwolfPrograms ok i will leave the class

"cool" "scene"

5:54 AM
NOO WE ARE LEARNING blueJ?

What if I said that y'all should reject star wars and just watch ytp
@PyGamer0 heh if I had to, you should have to as well
Just don't use it

@lyxal wait you also had to learn about a blue colored jay

The last half hour of IX is like if a group of writers fell in a blender and the resulting slurry was piped into Google Docs autocomplete

@PyGamer0 yep
And I was doing a first year university course

@lyxal yeah i am devloping 51AC8 instead of listening to computer class
as our teacher is like. Ok click on project. You use the mouse to click
press on the left side of the mouse to click

5:57 AM
o.O

I feel so bad for you

Why work when you can play minecraft?

its been like this since 1st standard
@Ausername u dont think my father will notice

Oh you're using your computer
nvm

@Ausername and also my father is just sitting at a distance doing work

5:59 AM
Oh these are zoom classes

People still do zoom classes?

@lyxal no MS Teams

I forget that the rest of the world is not by anymeans safe from COVID

Oh wow

6:00 AM
and there's the delta strain

@PyGamer0 golly
We started with Ms teams and switched to zoom real quick

@Ausername me still sitting at home in india be like

@Ausername I know right

@Razetime same

you from india as well?

6:01 AM
@Razetime yes

neat

maybe same city also

Announcing the (unofficial) Jelly Training site! It's heavily in development, but has the basic features implemented. If anyone wants similar things for other languages, feel free to fork it, though a) I would recommend waiting until it's more stable, and b) if I have the motivation to, I might be willing to port it for other languages myself.

nice

That design looks very windows :p

6:03 AM
@Ausername imagine having a government that does things :p
@RedwolfPrograms oh really?
it uses materialize so if anything it should look very google

My government does thing sometimes they just do the wrong thing

You have errors as Jelly programs?

our teacher is now teaching; "In the latest version of Java, you write a opening curly brace and press enter, it will automatically put the closing curly brace"

@PyGamer0 ...
...

6:06 AM
........
.
...

What do they think Java is? A golfing language with auto-bracket-completion?

@lyxal lol

Java is a golfing language!

@PyGamer0 I guess the good news is you can probably completely ignore whatever's being taught, waste time playing Minecraft, and probably end up smarter than if you'd listened xD

@RedwolfPrograms xD (no i will read from the book)

6:09 AM
Is it evil that my TIO thing inserts <!--60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda60tnda--> or similar into CGCC submissions? (Captcha bypass)

also last year the title of the Programming in C++ chapter was Program Coding

@Ausername yes; literally just wait like 3 seconds

But captchas are annoying...

I personally like the reminder I'm not a robot, I forget sometimes
4

6:16 AM
even robots need sleep, as you said half an hour ago...

Yeah yeah :p

@Ausername i dont think they do; they just need to recharge

6:42 AM

@wasif try now
I re-sent the invitation

@hyper-neutrino This is grounds for mod removal, right?

I'm sure they have absolutely no conflict of interest here

lol

@lyxal was out for a while
rechecking
@Ausername what is it

7:47 AM
Part of the latest blog thing

oh
i joined Vyxal org

Excellent

what teams are there
maybe you can add me to the testing team
I can only be helpful there

Language Design, Public Relations, Structural Organisation, Testing and Web Design

7:51 AM
I can do... pretty much everything

nice

Public Relations? caird should do that job!

caird didn't spread very good news on Vyxal

in Vyxal, yesterday, by lyxal
note: you do NOT have to join a team
@pxeger I may be stoopid, but I'm not that much of an idiot

lol

7:54 AM
ඞ <= sus

who knew you could get rep for tag wikis?

@wasif well, caird did kinda defend vyxal's right to use flags the way it currently does within our specifications, so they didn't give the worst news on it or anything like that :P

Anyway byte

byte!

@Ausername bite!

7:55 AM
\0

null

@Ausername only 2 rep

@PyGamer0 that's a bit sussy

??? byte , bite and null ???

@lyxal no thats sinhala script

7:56 AM
@wasif byte was a typo of bye, and we just ran along with the joke of posting different bytes :p
@PyGamer0 no, that's the impostor

lol

@lyxal no that is pig

@PyGamer0 I saw that character venting
Therefore, it must be the impostor

it's a valid python identifier, BTW

@lyxal but its a PIG

7:57 AM
@PyGamer0 no, it's SUS
Meaning we need to eject it

@lyxal but SUS == PIG

suspigious
4

@PyGamer0 which still makes it the impostor

pigpigious

@PyGamer0 And the way you're defending it makes me think that you're also the impostor

7:59 AM
^ @lyxal
so its a Pig

that's not the whole truth though
scrofa deez nuts lmao
6

@pxeger thats a DOMESTIC pig

@pxeger congratulations, you just won the internet
Time for us all to go home then

8:20 AM
@hyper-neutrino Regardless of how bad Vyxal is, I will defend its right to be bad :P

@pxeger Sus
@lyxal Yes it was

@lyxal and I made a double-joke by posting \0 which is like the waving emoticon \o, but nobody noticed my comedic genius :(

I just did, after you posted that message...

there's no better way to ruin a joke than by explaining it
(that's funny because I just explained the joke, and this is funny because I'm doing it again in a self-referential ironic manner)

dammit I clicked that too quickly to notice what it was

lol my little brother gave me the idea

And I'm smart enough to let people click links before I do...
Also use a meta redirect tag so it sends the user to the rickroll directly.

@Ausername wdym you just hyperlinked the rickroll

It is a real thing, it was just the perfect place to add a rickroll.
Google 'meta redirect'

8:47 AM
@PyGamer0 nice
i think I got rickrolled

I didn't click it

pls stop

@wasif pretty sure my brother gave me the idea to put a rick roll on the website

I know you didn't commit on 51ac8 for last 2 days
so you were definitely lying

8:49 AM
@wasif i edited the link
i have a separate branch

nice

wait i got 104 commits

you might want an online interpreter now

@wasif no i am rewriting the thing
also i am not sure if i want my own or use ATO

I may help with online interpreter

8:51 AM
@wasif i would like to wait before creating an interpreter (online)

ok then

i just need to rewrite the interpreter
also this is a special variable in python __debug__

indeed

one thing is that with the -O flag, it slows down?
what does it do?

it "optimises" bytecode; all it really does is remove assert statements and set the __debug__ variable; this removal of assertions takes time, and if your code doesn't have any assertions then it won't be made up for by any difference in code runtime

9:09 AM
@PyGamer0 whats this font

ugly, that's what it is

9:26 AM
Does anyone know a language that ends in i

Aheui

Pari/GP sort-of ends in i

Could be

Taxi

9:29 AM
Yes!
That sounds like it
Although if there's anything else you can thing of...

Extended Brainfuck Type I

fungeoids MTFI
Prolog SWI

@Razetime custom Iosevka build

One word plz

@Razetime here

9:33 AM
Digging through the TIO language list gives Sisi and Toi
Language name ending in I is very rare apparently

@PyGamer0 very nicely done

Probably taxi - it's the most well-known

words ending i are, generally, in English

@Razetime wdym?

interestingly rounded iosevka

9:34 AM
Kinda yeah, but language names are not necessarily words in English

@PyGamer0 it's a good looking build

@Razetime i tried making it look like agave with some things changed.

tthanks

github.com/Steven-Hewitt/LI is the only golfing language that has a name which ends on I

hm
Ok I'm just commenting that...
Not taxi! I commented your other suggestions
thto
It appears it's Delphi...

9:46 AM
Oh I should have thought of that

Oh well
