@AndrasDeak hmm? Why? Which of the pics you mean?
I find it weird and sometimes improper when making them too human.
In the above pic on which I commented it was just bit weird, not improper or anything. Maybe because it puts focus on gender, where as pony they're gender neutral.
(I hope it's OK to discuss it this way, in this room I'm being extra careful :))
@SPArcheon oh lol, didn't notice at first. Well, then they're 100% human it's just... not pony related, so not much to comment about. See above message for cases when it's "hybrid", i.e. pony with human shape. :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 The EG serie is kinda weird. It probably started from executive meedling asking them to put the ponies into a overused "school end year gala dance" context - you know, the cliché with girls meets boy, falls in love, dances at the school gala. The writers managed to dodge the trash bullet quite decently, and ended up with an "ponies as human" series.
Since afaik fan artist did make "human" ponies art even before EG was made, it probably ended up filling a market zone that some already wanted.
Obviously, the actual show is almost free of any fanservice, given the original target group.
(with the only weird exception of a bunch of beach episodes I didn't expect at all)
That doesn't mean that some of the artist won't try to make more fanservice artworks. And obviously I will avoid those.

> as pony they're gender neutral.
Say what?

@AndrasDeak Knowing Shadow, I think they mean that the ponies don't have many visual gender specific trait.
Basically, the difference in body shape is just the head shape.

8:37 AM
oh you mean physical trait
Still. Don't all the stallions look different?

it's just that almost all characters on screen are girls
That was my impression

@SPArcheon oh, I see. Thanks.
@AndrasDeak what SPA said. :)

@AndrasDeak MLP is flash based, so it is basically 10 body shape bases that are reused over and over with different colors / hairs combinations
FEW characters have unique design

@SPArcheon unique != gendered

8:44 AM
@AndrasDeak you mean female ;)

Yes
But also girls
@SPArcheon most dudes there seem to have squared muzzles

@AndrasDeak "girl" mean human female.

@AndrasDeak yep, that is the main difference.

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 it does?

@AndrasDeak pretty sure, yeah. Let me check...

8:47 AM
@SPArcheon so... you can look at them and usually tell their gender? :P

> Definition of girl
1a: a female child from birth to adulthood
b: DAUGHTER
c: a young woman
dsometimes offensive : a single or married woman of any age
This doesn't mention human, interesting.

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 did you use the furry dictionary?

@AndrasDeak no? Actual dictionary.
Oh wait, maybe "child" refers only to human.

Find a definition that handles anthropomorphic non-humans as a distinction

> Definition of child (Entry 1 of 3)
1a: a young person especially between infancy and puberty
a play for both children and adults
b: a person not yet of the age of majority (see MAJORITY sense 2a)
Under the law she is still a child.
c: a childlike or childish person
He is a child in most business matters.

8:50 AM
If you look up "ground" it won't specify planet Earth either

@AndrasDeak meh I'll pass
:)

Check of twilight ever says "come on, girls"

Remind me what's my point was? lol
Also busy trolling a troll now. It's... fascinating.

@AndrasDeak Unless they throw a curveball... I don't remember specifically right now if there are some characters that don't follow that "rule"

9:08 AM
@SPArcheon hence usually. Same as real life :)

@AndrasDeak BTW, the "girls" part.... it is kinda weird since in some cases even Spike uses that line when he is with the other (female) main characters. And even when he is included.
Guess that is some sort of "most are female" respect speech format.
Like some languages prefer the form "you and me" to "me and you"

Most languages, out of courtesy? :P
@SPArcheon do you have an example for "even when he is included"? I can't picture that grammatical scenario.

"come on girls" said when there are boys isn't very rare, and only becoming more and more common these days.
It's part of the global change towards how we see genders, I think.

Never heard that unless it's the one boy is saying that (to all the girls)
You don't say "come on, me" either. Hence my curiosity about context.

@AndrasDeak Basically the one Shadow mentioned. There are some examples of things like "let's go girls" that seems to be used even when there are other males present and / or he is including himself in the group.

9:21 AM
@AndrasDeak well I hear it quite often in our local media, and keep seeing it in TV shows as well, and not just as comedy, but rather looks like it's natural, the way people speak.
@SPArcheon yup

@SPArcheon for the former: weird. For the latter: "let's go X" doesn't include themself.
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 well it's not progressive or courteous or anything. It's misgendering and plain wrong.

@AndrasDeak no..... sigh
Let me find something online.

The progressive approach would be not to use gendered terms for groups
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 thanks, that would help

9:38 AM
hmm can't find now.
Oh well, might come back to it later.

On a different topic, since @AndrasDeak found the cat picture weird....
I wonder what you would think about the Mattel Enchantimal toyline, that is basically a mix of Equestria Girls with the Japanese Sega owned Kemono Friends franchise
^ @AndrasDeak weird enough for you?
Mix of anthropomorphic animals and regular ones.
Basically the old "Goofy is a dog, but Pluto is a dog too" thing, but the whole show is like that.

1 hour later…
10:59 AM
@SPArcheon pretty uncanny

6 hours later…
5:00 PM
@AndrasDeak I watched a single episode out of curiosity. Still "slice of life" cartoon, good for kids I guess, but lacks that focus on friendship that makes the MLP:FiM show interesting for me.
That said, for a reason, the rabbit girl reminds me of Carrot.
The one form One Piece.

1 hour later…
6:04 PM
she's also uncanny

6:53 PM
assuming she's a she
