I like the dragonborn wizard idea, but also the others.
I like the whole idea :-D
What is the egg thing?

"On The Ecology of Gold & Dragons" article on Permanent Cranial Damage. Dragons don't hoard gold; gold hoards dragons.

@A.B. which egg thing? @Axoren's egg thing?
@BESW that's interesting

XD

I love that dragon article, and all the references it linked to at the bottom, too!
@AncientSwordRage, Axoren seemed to be talking as if there was an egg joke that was going round the Internet, and there is, I've seen it in one other group. What is it?
Does anyone here know?

@A.B. not a clue 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can't see your first two emojis, or whatever they are.
:-)

@AncientSwordRage I rather prefer the Dragons of the Cuyahoga version of why dragons hoard gold, but it's a nifty concept nonetheless.

What's their explanation?

Aug 20 '20 at 1:48, by BESW
@MikeQ Pretty much. In the Cuyahoga world, dragons are absolutely supreme individuals--but that is also their weakness: they consider the idea of a "tribe" to be inherently weak because it means subjugating yourself to others. Humanoids willingly band together into armies and nations that can overpower a single dragon.
> "For millennia before our contact with elvish, and then human, ‘civilization’ it mattered not to us. The idea of ‘political’ power, ‘economic’ power—manipulating events through proxies, and symbols—were concepts long and hard in coming to us.” Theophane waved back to the pillar, where her computer was showing a stock ticker. “Wealth is the easiest—and the most easily understandable—way to acquire that kind of power.”
I scribbled a few notes as I asked her, “You’re saying that you only hoard wealth to be able to influence humans?”

You can have as many dragon ecologies as you like, of course.
Oh, nice.

(Cuyahoga is formatively influential on my preferences for western-style urban fantasy.)

I looked it up briefly on Goodreads, it looks good.

Hrm. The Rivers of London TRPG will use BRP, and it feels like the first time I've seen BRP applied to a franchise and I've thought "yeah, that sounds like a good fit for the material."

Q: How do you balance encounters between NPCs?

Ekadh SinghRight now, I’m planning a situation where faction “a” is going to fight faction “b” and the players pick a side, and the side which the players choose is fairly likely to win. How do I make it so that faction a and faction b are around the same strength? Example: in the current game I am thinking...

2:39 AM
@A.B. Well, for our group, it all started when we were considering different materials that things could be made out of, and then we realized that linguistically, things could be made out of "egg" instead of "eggs" and the material was "egg"
Then, at some other point, we learned that one of our mods was eating enough eggs per day to give any normal person high cholesterol.
Eventually, there were so many different "egg" inside jokes within our server.
Later, we learned that Northern Lion, a famous video game streamer, also had an entire egg-based lore within his community. And we started to see "egg" in places all over the net. But for us, for the most part, it's multiple inside jokes under a single egg-brella.
As of late, sometimes it's a greeting.
"Egg."

How do these things happen on the Internet? spooky.
lots of people having the same joke at once, I mean.

How are so many origin myths of ancient civilizations that have had no contact so closely correlated?
That's spookier.

regardless, Eggventurer is to be encouraged.

Eggs are a pretty universal human experience.

@BESW Egg is a pretty universal human eggsperience.

Wickedness by Nightling Bug. A coven of three struggle to hold the worlds (and one another) together in this narrative RPG. (Physical orders here.)
"Accessibility & Disability Consultant Directory" hosted by DOTS RPG Project. If you are looking to write a new story, develop a new game, or just want to find someone to learn more from, we strongly recommend you reach out to those who can give you appropriate advice and direction. This list is a collection of people, groups, organizations, and companies who offer both paid and unpaid services regarding accessibility and/or disability topics.

That third image on the "Wickedness" page, the purple one, the Interpretation Guide. Did anyone else read it as a frog person at first? :-)

Someone in our system design circle has been developing a combat system for a while and just recently, one of his discoveries was that a design choice of his made an interesting change to melee combat.
When facing two enemies, there is a benefit to repositioning around one of them to attack them from another square. In D&D systems, moving away would provoke an attack of opportunity, making this always a worse option.
I won't talk too much about it, but it's an emergent property of his design, but it's a really promising indicator that he might have struck gold.
By the end of summer, he might be publishing it.
@BESW Could you point to any resources for how to publish RPGs and licensing it? I feel like you're one of the ones with their ears to the ground on these things.

4:43 AM
Do you mean publishing in the "get picked up by a Major Publisher" sense, or in the "put a thing on itch.io" sense?

4:59 AM
I found an egg frieze.com/article/… , but the article is dated January 2019 so I don't think it's the same one.

5:49 AM
@Axoren Seconding Red's question; this is a very big topic. Are we talking about variant rules on an existing license or an entirely new game? Looking to make money from it or just retain control over it?

@BESW Confusing. Why is it marked "physical game" but says it's designed to be played over Discord?

Because there's a limited number of categories and it's more like that than any of the others.

checks list of categories Makes sense, I'd forgotten they also dealt in "actual" computer games.

There's an order of magnitude fewer physical games on itch.io.

Haha, just a function of what kind of chats I'm usually in to hear about them, then!

10:28 AM
Yeah, I for one don't really mention computer games here, but I buy them on itch.io whenever possible.
There are also books and comics; it's a very versatile marketspace.

lol
mm Tangle Tower, Dicey Dungeons, and Frog Detective are all so good
oh also Untitled Goose game and Transistor
but I still have to actually like, finish Trainsistor XD

I didn't even mention ones like A Short Hike.

that looks nice
but I don't have it
and I still have a backlog XD
plus games that I go back to a lot

I would've gotten Thunderbird Strike on itch if I could've, but the itch version is Windows only.

10:51 AM
@Axoren You might find some of the TTRPG Resource Jam entries helpful, though the chance that any of them are going to specifically answer your needs is slim.
But there's stuff about crowdfunding, about putting a game on DTRPG, making logos, etc.

@BESW Entirely new system from the ground up. Primary goals are to retain control over it.
I'm not sure, but it seemed like he wanted his core rules to be publicly available.

Q: Do Spell-Like Abilities Require Concentration Checks?

GelleckI was wondering, for spell-like abilities, do you need to make concentration checks to cast defensively, if damaged while casting, etc? Or is none of that necessary, since they technically aren't spells?

JavaScript adventurers will also be found surprisingly talkative since empty strings are falsy.

I'm getting the impression that the D&D 5E designers spent a lot of time picking up all of the RP beartraps from around the Paladin but on their way to the dumpster they tripped and spilled them around the Warlock instead.

@Glazius Oh? What things do you have in mind? (When deciding to try out the system, after a short experiment I gravitated towards the warlock, so I'm curious.)

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica I'm guessing the fact that the class presumes the existence of a patron who can demand the warlock do certain things or behave in certain ways is the issue

9:41 PM
Yeah, pretty much. I just see a lot of people asking the same "my patron demands" questions that paladin players used to ask as "my alignment demands".
(and I don't see a lot of paladin players asking "my oath demands")

probably because they just ignore the fluff parts of the oaths to be honest
there's no teeth to that anymore because there isn't a strict rule that says you must do this or all your paladin goes away
but the warlock patron is core rather than subclass, so I guess it's a bit more prominent.

Warlock splash is also a popular powergaming move, so that also motivates a lot of GMs to do the thing that seldom turns out well where they impose RP costs on character power.

10:19 PM
@NautArch Can this paladin be saved This question looks a lot like a Party Optimization problem, but as querent does not describe what those two wizards do, besides nearly die a lot, I am having reservations about an answer

Q: Does a Boggle using Dimensional Rift to attack provoke an Opportunity Attack?

OlloA boggle uses its dimensional rift capability to partially appear next to a PC and attack it. When the boggle retracts his arm and upper body back through the rift, would it allow an opportunity attack? I found one single web page stating that it wouldn't but it doesn't give any rules reference o...

@kviiri a frame work I used to work on evaluated the string "no" to being false .... That was an annoying bug

Q: Difficulty or penalty in KULT: Divinity Lost tests

paulodiovaniShould the GM set a difficulty (a penalty) for player moves, in the form of Move(2d10) + Attribute - Penalty? I'm asking because, despite for Endure Injury move, this is not clear in the book, but it seems reasonable to set a penalty when the situation is clearly disadvantageous for the player ch...
