9:12 PM
Oh, hey, I came back to a doodle request :D
A bobblecrown medal coming right up

yay 'borg!

And your C4 got solved! Nice!
What was the solution? I can't find it in transcript.

2 hours ago, by Gareth McCaughan
@PrinceNorthLæraðr Solution to your CCCC is CONS + TRICT (homophone of TRICKED) meaning "contract". I think you're missing a preposition before the auditor.

Ohh! Awesome
msh and I had guessed that "contract" might have actually been a verb, but we hadn't found that word yet.
Very clever :D

My contribution was using "auditor" as the homophone indicator

9:16 PM
That was a good one, didn't even realize it was a homophone indicator until msh mentioned it

Avi
@matt D: uh oh

@Avi yyyyyep

Eek, sounds like you had an outbreak near you too :( my area had a massive case spike this week

yeah especially since, y'know, vegas is big

Las Vegas, the tiny town :p

9:19 PM
yes

Probably only like a hundred people, i dunno

there is actually a Las Vegas in new mexico i think

> Now the existence of different flux directionalites, feed-back loops and pathway branching points in the JH biosynthesis pathways can be explored

fortunately we're still in virtual school

what in the world does "flux directionalites" mean?

9:21 PM
"Flux directionalities" sounds like something a random neural net would spit out if I trained it on scientific jargon

@bobble i have literally no idea
all i know is that flex-direction is a CSS property

reading a bit further, there appears to be a "flux model for JH biosynthesis"

flashbacks to struggling to use flex-direction to center divs for 2 hours

but "directionalities"???

what is that!

9:22 PM
I would guess it's like "directions" but fancier

the longer the word, the more Scientific (tm) it is
2

and what's JH biosydnstebdhfrnrggvr?

JH biosynthesis is the creation of Juvenile Hormone by a living organism using natural biological pathways

that makes sense, for once
@Sciborg you should do that

Avi
@bobble the longer a word, the more Scientologificicational 'tis
indeed, indeed, bobble is a bobble of great wisdom

9:25 PM
yes
anything new in the life of poofy?

has she recovered from the traumatic stitch injury?

Avi
Does a movie about finding a hidden treasure chest...
have a box plot?

@Avi Scientologificationalismatic
2

Poofy has made a full recovery

Avi
@matt it's like a talisman... of science!

9:30 PM
@Avi what

Avi
...tionalisma... is an anagram of io + talisman

w- wh- ok
also, "magical mystery tour" is an anagram of "asymmetrical yogurt"

Avi
but how

... anagrams

I'm doing my hair-based stims :D

9:39 PM
I've just been vibing in my swivel chair honestly :p
Should never have bought it, I knew it would ruin my productivity

I could go upstairs for classes, and there is a spinny chair there, but I've been staying downstairs on the couch with a blanket instead.

Avi
I swiveled in a chair until I was dizzy for 30 minutes afterwards
haven't swiveled in that chair since

If you haven't done that, you're not human

I am very resistant to getting dizzy - spinning as fast as I can for 5 minutes will leave me dizzy for 30 seconds, tops

9:43 PM
Can I borrow that superpower?

Avi
you haven't got the proper coefficient of friction on your chair, then

Whereas watching someone walk in a circle too fast will make my mom dizzy

Avi
:o
"I saw that it was raining outside and thought to myself, ‘Ah, these must be the tears of my students.’”
— Calculus professor, on the day of the final

I used to TA for a lab professor and one day I mentioned how uncomfortable the chairs in the lab were, and he jumped up and was like "oh my god i hate these too, do you want to go steal the swivel chairs from the 3D printer lab" and we became best friends that day

Dunno if I'm quoted in that blog. (I doubt it.) I used (sometimes) to say, when someone asked "Can I ask a stupid question?", "There's no such thing as a stupid question. Only a stupid person asking".
(Yeah, I was that guy.)

9:48 PM
When I was in elementary school, I would sneak into the lower grades' classrooms and steal chairs. The chairs in my grades' classrooms were too big for me.
(I still fit in the kindergarten chairs when I was in 6th grade)

@bobble but did you reach your desk with them?

Yeah, I could still work with the desk. They weren't much shorter, and the desks weren't much taller.
I always feel more comfortable balancing on small chairs than lounging on large ones.

Avi
It's a human tendency to want to have your feet on solid ground. I could tell you about that one time my feet weren't on solid ground, but I didn't live to tell the tale.

See, I'm the opposite, I hate chairs that are too small for me
Giant chairs that are like five sizes too big for me and beanbags are my favorite

Avi
Well, I can't speak for the 'borgs

9:53 PM
part of it is I want to be able to bolt at all times, and larger chairs get in the way

@Avi that made me laugh, thank you
I cannot speak for all of my countrymen, not the 'Borgs or the Bobbles

the bobbles will be busy soon, provided the person who asked for tutoring actually shows up

Are you implying that the bobbles are a hive mind? :o

she did, leaving for now

We learn more about the crowns every day

Q: Progressive matrics

User690Can you please help me by solving this? Source: test.mensa.no

@Sciborg We already knew that :)

@PrinceNorthLæraðr We knew about the great bobblie hive mind? :p

10:37 PM
Please don't repost the same problem. 10k link to old question. I see you've added a source. Please undelete your old question, then edit the source into that, and your question can be reopened — bobble 12 secs ago
I wish I didn't have to do these comments, but here we are

yikes

Bless the Sphinx for giving me a link to the old question.

@bobble same here tbh

Ugghhhhh Alive is so hard to do
Why do I do this to myself

poor little North tree

10:50 PM
I have to submit a rough draft recording by tonight
I also need to convince my parents to leave when I'm recording

Is it the high notes? Those seem super hard to hit

Leave the house or leave the room? I mostly just hide in my room and close the door for tutoring.

@bobble The house for like ten minutes
So I can record
@Sciborg They are. The part that starts with "and I feel I'll live on forever" is pretty high, and I need to BELT it

Can you record when they make a grocery run or the like?

Maybe. My parents go on walks everyday so I'll probably do it then
I would like to do it when it's dark tho, because I have the PERFECT place to do it
Just a singular light bulb in this tiny corridor into my room, and I can get the perfect creepy vibe

10:54 PM
I can't perform while people are around either so I feel you, makes me too nervous :p

Nah, I'm trying to do it when my parents aren't around because I can belt REALLY loudly

"AND I FEEL LIKE I'LL LIVE ON FOREVERRRRR"

My favorite portion is "Tonight, I'll plunder heaven blind, steal from all the gods" section
I can nail that portion really well

That's such a good line

But then right after that section is "I feel I'll live on forever"
It's like... it's hard because I get exhausted by that point

10:57 PM
Long songs have to be super tiring on the lungs

I'll probably drop it down an octave in that portion since it's only a rough draft submission

For sure, doesn't have to be perfect yet.

you never shared your bobblecrown medal...?

Doodle Request

11:00 PM
I haven't drawn it yet :D hang on

also, an update: the duplicate post has been deleted as well

@Sciborg Ooh, can you draw me doing a dramatic Objection pose like from Phoenix Wright?

Plot twist: I'll do both in one

11:02 PM
Wait, North-as-a-human or North-as-a-tree?

maybe incorporate a hidden Deus heptagon

@bobble North-as-a-tree
Y'all don't know my human form

Dear goodness, I loved the Animorphs
(this is completely unrelated, sorry)
I read them completely out of order, due to how no-where had all the books

(nitpick: isn't "nowhere" one word?)

I always thought they were a bit creepy
One of my favorite childhood book series was the Alex Rider series

11:06 PM
I've read it as "no-where" somewhere, and sometimes I add in the dash if it feels right

@PrinceNorthLæraðr Yes, and it was completely copied by Robert Muchamore in CHERUB. But I like CHERUB better.

I haven't read CHERUB but Alex Rider was amazing
The first book I've ever read where it had my heart racing
Also the only one. I guess because it's a thriller book

I've never read either

CHERUB is literally awesome
but cover your ears/eyes if you're sensitive

I'd recommend Alex Rider, though it does become a bit cliche about how Alex survives every single time
@Voldemort'sWrath ?

11:11 PM
it's
un peu risqué

(not on my MacBook so accents are tough)
I can never remember my ALT codes

how's this?

wonderful

11:13 PM
exactly why linux/chromebook is great
ctrl shift u f 1 --> ñ

@Sciborg hehe

using the option key on the Mac is ez as pie

I've never drawn Phoenix Wright as a tree before

I've never drawn... period elipsis...

11:16 PM
question: which bounty reason should I use if what I want is a logical solution to a puzzle that already has a computer-generated answer?

@Voldemort'sWrath period full stop.

I'm not sure, what are the options?

If anyone would like a Doodle Request i'm down, i am in a doodly mood today :p

Doodle Request: Deus finding an invalid cryptic clue, possibly including a cowering setter

infinite deus heptagons

@bobble on it

my Doodle Request:
3 mins ago, by matt
infinite deus heptagons
(just in case you missed it :) )

11:24 PM
like just a grid of heptagons?

Q: Another Mutual Riley Riddle

Dannyu NDosI say: My prefix is an abbreviation of something uncontainable. My infix is compressed. My suffix is bloody. Together, we are indistinguishable in plain sight. You say: My prefix is kinda much. My infix is animated. My suffix is a flower. Together, we are extreme counterparts.

heptagons don't tessellate so a grid of heptagons will have many a gap in it

34
Q: fill this grid with water!

faZIn this puzzle you should fill the imaginary small squares in each row and column up to the number that is written next to it with water. You can't fill a square if the squares connected to it(under and left and right of it-without any limits between them)are empty. And one more point is that yo...

i mean, i can make that the background!

^^ my bounty!

11:26 PM
@Sciborg of ...?

Hmm, what if I made Deus a Master Jedi and he's judging the person who submitted the cryptic for jedi punishment

I want the C4 to be CONSUMMATE = "very" (as in "the very gall!"). The wordplay would have to be CON = "former communist" (already a stretch but okay, being a communist used to land you in jail in the U.S. in the fifties), SE = "state's on vacation" (vacating, i.e. emptying, "state"), and then… UMMAT = "stable genius"?? Not seeing it.

how about make Deus the PSE equiv. of the Borg Queen?
and maybe like have him interrogating bobble for not, idk, raising the shields?
and since they're on a Borg cube make them with like implanty things?

That's really funny, I'll save that for a future Doodle :p

alrighty
in the meantime, go ahead with your jedi idea :)

11:34 PM
Deus kinda turned into Darth Vader halfway through and I like it too much to change it now

sure

Who's his son?

ooh, good question
Gareth?

Deuth O'Vider

Deuth Vader, I love it
What should the invalid wordplay be?

11:37 PM
@msh210, are there any (in)famously bad C4s or plain CCs in the chat?

@Sciborg anagram of a synonym perhaps?
@bobble why does everyone look at me for bad C4s?

I hate it, that's perfect

@msh210 I though you'd know about the history of C4s better than I

@bobble hmm. Okay, consider me mollified.

@Sciborg better yet, make both the homophone and the anagram unindicated

11:40 PM
Yes

@Sciborg Shaken, not stirred, if you don't mind (6) (not the CCCC!!!)
That is indicated, sorry.

What's the intended answer?

@bobble how about LukasRotter?

What, can't you tell? :-D
@Sciborg PLEASE

Of course :D

11:43 PM
It's shaken (anagrammed) ASLEEP (not stirred), = if you don't mind

Makes perfect sense
Definitely not unfair

(why i suggested lukas rotter: sounds kinda like luke skywalker)

> Interestingly, a putative ecdysone response element (EcRE; −2179 to −2167) that was homologous to a consensus EcRE sequence (RGKTCANTGAMCY) (43) was located near the putative KBS (Fig. 2A), whereas the upstream region of BmE93B (<3 kb) did not contain this consensus sequence
aghhhhhhhhhhhhh

what does that meannnnnn

Genetics?

11:46 PM
this is genetics stuff, yes

Mick, it might be time to HOLY SHIT bobble's [reading material] :p

this isn't my textbook, I'm doing research for a project

well um

This brings back memories.

> <3 kb
i love kilobases

11:48 PM
I used to do genetics, back about… ten years ago. I mentioned in this chat room, I think, that my only published paper is my dissertation, but that's a lie: I forgot I have a paper published in genetics.
@matt kilobases

thanks, didnt know that

> The aforementioned results facilitate us to explore the mechanism how BmKr-h1 represses the 20E-mediated BmE93A induction.
Translated: "We saw cool stuff, now we can look into this other thing"

what even is BmKr-h1

What species is this?

@msh210 apparently BmKr-h1 is Bombyx mori (silk moth)

11:51 PM
This article is about the how the juvenile hormone in insects represses metamorphosis.

ah right, the JH biosuyndyfeurghyuf

@matt thanks :-)

Goal for today is to get through the article, and tomorrow I'll annotate it.

3. ???
4. PROFIT

5. you are officially a Ferengi
(trek people that ... have an interest in latinum (also a trek thing))
(am i being too much of a trekkie? yes? ok then)

11:54 PM
(am lost)

here ya go

who's bobble supposed to be there?

@matt They totally do in the hyperbolic plane.

today i learned
also ^ Deus Vader

11:56 PM
There are bobblies in all my pictures, some of them just hide :p

@Deusovi, see Deus Vader

ooh pretty geometry

@GarethMcCaughan That's beautiful

@GarethMcCaughan now just add some lines and things and you have infinite deusovis

11:57 PM
@Sciborg Who's that groveling?

@msh210 An anonymous user, probably :p

Omg you should compile these into one comic

just got another Doodle idea (if you wouldn't mind of course): anything involving whatever loop thingy msh210 is

Closely related image from the front page of my PhD thesis:

@msh210 @GarethMcCaughan

11:59 PM
Pretty!

@GarethMcCaughan i can see the hidden heptagons

@msh210 Nope.
