In any case I'm dang excited

I don't see you under the "Editors" tab for this quarter - were you not editing because it would have to be reviewed?

I did edit and they were reviewed but that was only a grand total of two edits

Also, you're winning the weekly reputation league: stackexchange.com/leagues/559/week/puzzling
and the monthly

oh dangg

Oh no, poor North :(

12:06 AM
there is more ranting in his room, if you want to see

Studying for a test just to do badly on it anyway is the worst feeling.

true ;_;

I tried to take this crazy hard math class in sophomore year called Bridge to Higher Mathematics, basically Calc V, because I wanted a math minor along with my chemistry minor and that was my last credit. But I ended up getting like a D+ midterm grade despite studying like crazy. So I walked into professor's office, completely exhausted, and went like "I'm dead inside and I need to drop your class" and he was like "you look like it" lol
Everyone has that one class they completely crap out in, North is definitely not alone.

100% true

AP World History was the first time I cried over a grade (my first C on an essay) - I only managed to pull an A- because the teacher 1) automatically curved tests by 5 points 2) let you re-write essays for partial credit and 3) gave extra credit for completing a special project.
... any other teacher, that would've been a B-

12:17 AM
Nice
The final grade part I mean, not the crying

The first day of class he said "Everyone here is going to cry at some point" and I went "pshaw, not me, I do great at school"

That's what you always think, and then you cry
I think I've cried over a grade three or four times, mostly sophomore year because that was my big struggle year.
No shame, it hurts.

I did Very Stupid Thing and had AP World and English back-to-back... sometimes that meant I would have 2 periods of multiple-choice + essay tests with only a 5-minute break in between.

Oof

you agree this is Very Stupid Thing?

12:22 AM
I got used to it in college, but in high school that's insane.
AP classes are tough.

English wasn't AP - it was Honors

AP World is hard though.

yessssssssss so much

I took that instead of AP European History and I remember it being super hard.
Hopefully North knows though that he's definitely not alone when it comes to struggling in classes, everyone knows that feel.
He will be okay.

@bobble Idk. I can't relate with history, because I ended AP World with a 96 semester 1 (106% with some special extra credit for getting a 5) and a 99.7 semester 2

12:27 AM
Hi North! We love you <3

wait, you got credit for your AP test grade?

Getting bad grades is a rough feel, I hope you are doing okay.
How are you feeling?

Q: Dirty and wet, yet innocent

0..Yes, I sound dirty But I am innocent and kind I'm not the first thing That comes to your mind You think I'm normally dry But I'm always wet Oh, my name, that's why You might never see me yet

@bobble Yeah

12:35 AM
that would've helped me ><

@Sciborg :56042386 A bit better- gotta get onto a zoom meeting for practice on my pretrial argument for mock trial

Glad you are feeling better, if you need virtual hugs let us know :)

would you like luck and/or virtual hugs?

@bobble Oh geez

are you in awe of my drawing skills?

yes

@bobble I, a mere mortal, at the presence of a god
How do they conclusively determine the results for certain states such as Illinois or Arkansas already?

I have no idea

While some other states only show who's leading?

1:34 AM
some states are allowed to start counting mail-ins early, some are not

@bobble And they already closed their polls for in person, so I'm assuming they finished counting all the mail-ins and the in-person voting?

I guess? You could ask Politics.SE
sister is turning on TV to election now

Wait I'm soooo confused
Some states only had like 1% of the population show up, other ones have the other candidate as the majority but the other candidate won what??

some states are entirely mail-in this year

@Stiv Yeah, that's fair.
I'll add a hint at the 48hr mark.

1:39 AM
Huh.But some states say that X candidates had more votes but the Associated Press said Y candidate won?
See MS and AL. My laptop might be having problems

oh right, I forgot it's election time in the US

Wait, I'm not understanding how some candidates are winning states despite receiving less votes
visibly confused

should we take this to your room so as to not flood main chat with election?

something something electoral college?
I don't understand it either

1:45 AM
@Ankoganit yeah same
and same I don't understand either 🤪

@JeremyDover, don't forget to edit your Connect Wall into the meta answer!

Q: History is written by the Connect Wall

Jeremy DoverThis is an entry for Fortnightly Topic Challenge #42: Wordless Connecting Walls. Election Day in the United States, and my daughter is taking Civics, so we're watching the returns. It occurred to me that, a.) I would really rather be doing almost anything else, and b.) we are generally very quick...

how many chins does that emoticon need?

3:26 AM
one at the bottom

3:52 AM
@bobble all of them

I just got a HUGE packet and flyer from University of Portland
I'm actually impressed they used all that paper and ink, usually it's just a letter sized brochure

I've gotten two nice packets from one school that I'm applying to.

Makes me want to actually look into this college :P
Darn, they only have a BA in music
boring
Feels a bit bad for the nice brochure though :/

There are a LOT of flags with red in them
I notice this because I was picking countries (for reasons not related to red in the flag) and a bunch ended up with partially red flags

In what?
Who's them?

4:04 AM
National flags, I'm making another Flag Connect Wall

Oh, I thought you were talking about colleges

do colleges have flags?
oh yeah, they have those pennants

Q: Presidential Election

Dmitry KamenetskyThis puzzle was inspired by the current 2020 US presidential election. You are running for president in a country with 10 states. I am going to interview (interview!!!) with my reach college!

@bobble Interview??????
Reach college is the one that you want to go right?

they do optional (Zoom) interviews with applicants
yes, yes, I would love to go!

Interview?(Interview!!!!!!!!)

they're VERY expensive, though

5:02 AM
but interview!!!!

Interview!!!!!!!!

(I apologize to the other denizens of the Lair for the above overabundance of punctuation)

I understand the excitement when you get a chance for an interview :)

It's adorable.

I just left an Among Us game with my friends where at the end, we were all on hot mic and too tired to play properly, so I just vented in and out while belting out the Lion King BE-UMM-BA-WAYY theme and killing everyone.

5:31 AM
well uh

I have no idea what any of that means

among us stuff

You guys don't play Among Us? :(

nope

nope

5:31 AM
Never mind.

My knowledge of it comes entirely from that one PSE puzzle based on it

@bobble don't worry, you're not alone

It's basically Mafia, but in space.

___, but SPACE is usually a fun thing

There's an imposter and a bunch of regular astronaut crewmates aboard a ship, and the imposter tries to kill everyone while the crewmates have to figure out who it is before they all die.

5:33 AM
@Sciborg in the sense of "not on earth"?
@Sciborg oh, I guess so

Yes.

On another note: I have constructed another flag connect-wall, but I'll probably wait until next week to post it (to allow for further polishing). You can look forward to more Knockoff Gladys! Who, by the way, is nonbinary, because no one can stop me.

speaking of space: am 4/5 complete with Star Trek Picard but i doubt anyone is interested

Excellent

@bobble keep the puzzles good or we may have to, um,
knock off Knockoff Gladys
4

5:35 AM
the puns!

meta puns

No one knocks off the nonbinary Knockoff Gladys on my watch

dramatic music

picard theme song it is slightly dramatic, but no

now I kind of want to write a spinoff flag puzzle with pride flags instead of country flags

5:41 AM
please do

You can! A further plan of mine is to use university pennants.

The instructions are just "Sort these flags into the four gayest groups you possibly can."

You could make a connect-wall of famous queer folks/leaders/activists!

:O
Oh my god

Wait, are you actually taking that as an idea?

5:43 AM
Two hundred percent absolutely.

I will look forward to it.

random idea: crossword in a different language (e.g Klingon French)

You meant Klingon, admit it

yes no I meant French

Does Stack Exchange permit puzzles in different languages?

5:46 AM
we have
> A puzzle that heavily depends on linguistic features; for instance it may concern foreign languages, or only work in some particular language, or be built around a peculiarity of the English language.

True, but if the crossword/puzzle is entirely in a different language, is that allowed?

There was an Indonesian cryptic crossword a while back

link? sounds interesting

And Gareth managed to solve despite not knowing Indonesian

North helped!

5:47 AM
Ah, okay. That's fair.

Q: A Cryptic Crossword in Indonesian Language (TTS Kriptik Bahasa Indonesia)

athinThe cryptic crosswords are actually new for me and I even struggled to solve one as English is not my first language. So I decided to look for a cryptic crossword in my language, Indonesian... And I found... nothing... not even a single cryptic clue in Indonesian language is available... >< So...

@bobble ah yeah true

Also, bobble, I've been meaning to start watching Agents of SHIELD :D anything I should know/catch up on before I watch?

YES
okay, are you starting from beginning or another spot?

Probably beginning
I remembered you liked it and I asked my Marvel nerd buddy if it's good, and he highly recommended it.

The first 2/3 of the first season is supposed to be not as good (I don't agree), and there's a BIG TWIST that makes it better - would you want to know?

5:56 AM
Is it the same twist that happens in the Captain America movies, or a different twist?

Well, the Cap twist occurs, but there's a twist as it relates to the specific characters

Ahh, okay. Don't tell me :p

Okay, so necessary background info is: Coulson died in Avengers, Extremis is dangerous explody thing from Iron Man 3, SHIELD is big and always watching everything

sadly I don't speak Klingon and Bing's translator is a piece of crap; my crossword probably won't happen

Gotcha, I remember the explody thing
And Coulson

5:59 AM
Sif also shows up a few times, but I don't think in the first season
Please report back on how much you love Fitzsimmons after your first night watching :)

Will do :D

They are adorable science nerd friends who are definitely only friends

Definitely

time for me to sleep now! see you tomorrow (or "later today" for you)

Good night :)

@Sphinx The specific combination of digits is soooo classic that the dupe target could be located by simply using SE search :/

@Bubbler oh, and it's not the only duplicate it seems...

I wouldn't be surprised if there are 10 or even 100 copies of that

Oct 27 at 23:51, by oAlt
@Sid I have no idea either, and I haven't checked the news in a while. The only thing I know is that rapper/songwriter Kanye West is legitimately running for president as well (you read that right), but I'd clearly assume that he's going to be the least voted, assuming people are sane enough.
Oh thank goodness I was more or less right
He's the fifth most voted but he got only 0.3% of the total votes

HTM
@oAlt If he won, it would’ve been a beautiful dark twisted fantasy

i was actually planning a gimmick crossword where you highlight the letters BIDEN in blue and the letters TRUMP in red and the result forms the US flag in the grid... but that turned out to be way too tedious to make
in particular the letters TRUMP aren't all that great for producing crosswordy words
the longest one known to qat is actually... "trump"

"trumps" :P

i suppose trump up would be valid

I am monitoring the question from my inbox in Puzzling, because I'm too scared to go to Lit

The Holocaust is one of those things that I know I'm too soft to watch movies about or read books about, but I make myself do it because I know it's important for me to understand what happened.

I am okay reading articles about the Holocaust but documentaries are... * shudder *

@bobble there there, bobble, it's ok :)

I was exactly this scared for my first post to Puzzling... which wasn't a great puzzle, but everyone was so nice

3:54 PM
my first puzzle literally sucked

My first posts to any new SE site are usually not great, and I can tell whether I want to join the community by how nice people are to me about it. Puzzling was very nice, so I stayed :p

if you looked up the Wikipedia page for "suck," my puzzle would be on there

I think that one is pretty good bobble!
Like, I can tell it's not your best or favorite one, but it's not bad!

it's infinitely better than mine

@Voldemort'sWrath you mean this one?

yes that one
terrible horrible no good very bad puzzle
net +2 rep tho lol

My first puzzle was an (admittedly pretty easy) periodic table riddle, not my favorite one but I was proud of it
And hexomino gave me a really cute comment that made me decide to stay and make more

hey, that's one of the rare riddles I upvoted

I liked the solution and how there was a halfway-decent meter and rhyme scheme
