"If you don't see the Bluetooth icon, but Bluetooth does appear in Device Manager, try to uninstall the Bluetooth adapter and trigger an automatic reinstall. Here's how:

In the search box on the taskbar, enter device manager, then select Device Manager from the results.
In Device Manager, select Bluetooth. Press and hold (or right-click) the Bluetooth adapter name (which may include the word “radio”), and select Uninstall device.
Select Start , then select Power > Shut down .
After your device shuts down, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. Windows will try to reinstall the driver.

@Mithical thanks for your help earlier. We did the 'room' tonight. It was enjoyable. We took advantage of the fact that you can change difficulty level in the middle -- we started with standard but the very youngest in the group couldn't handle it so we all went down. That's a nice feature (though it meant it was too easy, even far too easy, for the rest of us. But okay).

My guess was that he either had a hardware problem with his Bluetooth driver, or it was out of date. But his list of like 20 Bluetooth drivers is super unusual and made me think he had malware of some kind.

Like I have never seen anybody with more than three or four drivers of any kind.

Although it might just be Lenovo bloatware or some other thing, I'm not super familiar with Lenovo PCs but they're notorious for bloatware.
