@Miniman oddly, the trailer didn't feature the FromSoftware logo, just the JapanStudio one. If that is the case and FromSoftware isn't taking part in the remake project - no real hope for added content.
@trogdor nothing. The second star is just a pattern. Only a picture put on the ground
You remember the design pattern feature that can be used for customized clothes, painting and so on? You can put pictures on the ground too. The one on the right should be the picture, the one on the left the original one.
If you look closely you can tell they are different.
But if you find just the picture standing by itself you probably wouldn't notice...

@Derpy ooooooooooh

Furthermore, I think you cannot dig on a square with a picture pattern, so the character would just stand there. And if you don't realize the prank, you will think it is a bug.

but if you know you can pick it up and get rid of it
I don't think I approve of this kind of trolling in Animal Crossing of all games
XD

7:47 AM
@trogdor Still better than players that just bury junk and tree branches all around the city.

8:02 AM
yes well that is definitely mean spirited

8:12 AM
@trogdor well, at least is not a "dead fish"
But probably you never heard of that, right?

no
I have not

@trogdor a "bug" in the original GameCube game.
Basically you could get an unused item that had the icon of a "dead" fish. Probably something they originally intended to use either when you dropped a fish on the ground (before implementing the fishtanks I assume) or if you fished a new fish with a full inventory (you dropped the fish on the ground?)
Either way, you normally didn't get that, only way was to use cheating devices. Some player also reported getting one as a glitch from various sources, mostly items given by villager.
Problem: if you dropped that on the ground, it was impossible to pick it up.
You... probably already guessed where this is going.
Users had "fun" dropping those items in other players cities.
So, online was pretty dangerous.
At least I didn't heard of any similar permanent way to ruin other players cities in New Horizon.
Oh, also, unrelated

@Derpy Oh, I don't care about that. I just want to play the damn game at all, ever.

8:28 AM
But, like almost every other fan of the series who hasn't played either of the two PS-exclusives, I probably never will, because they'd rather just try to get one or two extra console sales out of it.

@Miniman oh, look, if they added a way to be save Maiden Atraea....
Or tweak the world tendency so that it is possible to play online and still get pure white / pure black events....

It seems crazy to me, of course, because even a really crappy port of the original is basically free money for them, but Sony's decisions are like that.

Yep, but I think they will have to at least change the way online affects the world tendency, otherwise I foresee very angry players.

@Derpy I've always wondered, my armchair analysis of world tendency is that the main problem with it is the classic spiral - failing makes things harder, succeeding makes things easier. So why not just reverse it? Make success cause black, and failure cause white.
Much like my last rant, it just seems really obvious.

@Miniman look, tendency is obviously the result of cut content.
Character tendency - has a real "karma" meaning but almost no impact on the game.
If you get pure white character tendency, you get an item from an npc. If you get pure black, you can get a quest from another npc to get another item and in the process ruing your game till the next cycle (new game +)
The world tendency, makes no sense lore or gameplay wise.
Basically, all it means is that you probably will decide to just stay in ghost form the whole game and suicide by jumping off a cliff in the Nexus whenever you get the free resurrection from slaying a boss.
Nexus has no tendency events, so even if you get it to pure black... doesn't matter.
And if you die in a world while in ghost form, tendency isn't changed.

8:41 AM
@Derpy eww
that's pretty messed up

So, basically, tendency already destroys the ghost/human mechanic since you want to stay a ghost most of the times.
Furthermore, since a ghost has only 50% hp but a ring - the Cling Ring - gives you 70% hp while a ghost.... this also unbalances the ring slots since you will have the Cling ring equipped the whole game, leaving you with a single slot all the time. Since the Thief ring is also quite unbalanced and a necessity in some areas (like a cliff in the Storm Valley where you are constantly attacked by flying enemies that are quite annoying to kill with ranged attack but will ignore you
The game has also two ending, a good one and a bad one, but all amounts to a single choice you make right at the end of the game. Character / World tendency have no impact at all.
You can kill every mortal npc in the game and still get the good ending. Or be a pacifist and even avoid enemies that don't attack you unless provoked and go for the demon ending at the very last moment.
Cut dialogues found on the disk seem to imply that the cut Archstone - Valley of Giants - probably had some bigger role in the plot.
Some theorized that originally the plot had you tricked in what was a plan to awake the Old One fully, and only thru an hidden sub-plot you would find a way to put it to slumber again.
We will never know.
Furthermore, the game plot is just hinted thru various clues and never explained fully. A common thing for Souls games, but it is even more prominent here.
Inconsistencies (Ostravia, Bijorn - they give contradicting retelling of the story, and this doesn't even take in account who "Little Allant" is supposed to be), unexplained fact (Exactly, what was Astraea doing?), weird characters (Miralda who attacks you on sight even on pure white tendency... was she mad all along??)...
A remake could be an opportunity to fix some of these problems... but I fear they will go for the lazy approach.
@trogdor It is like people trying to trade MissingNo to other players in Pokémon

8:59 AM
mm

9:11 AM
@trogdor sadly, online === players that will do everything they can to ruin other users experience.
Usual "giant robot" problem, as @BESW said.
And some actors did a far worse job in avoiding their robot to be misused.
Harassing other players by exploiting a bug in Animal Crossing is a thing....
But I have already told you folk there the story of Lord of the Rings online, a mmorpg that had the "oh, so great" idea to implement a forever missable title for reaching level 20 with a character without dying.
And with that single idea, opened the door to an endless horde of players that would just spend their time harassing newbies to make them die and lose the tittle.

And I will also add that the plush... is meh. IMHO
Weird, was made by FanGamers apparently, yet their Undertale plushes are far better than this.
Maybe it just the picture

@Adeptus The criticisms of gameplay are, incidentally, the same I've had towards DW for ages x)
Which is not to say my take on it is particularly novel... I'm just glad to see others think the same way I do about it.

2:47 PM
I never had a copy to inspect for long enough to really dig into the other parts of the critique though
but suffice to say, it borrows DnD

aaaaaand the Shantae presale ended.

@NautArch Wow. Now 14 years ago.

@doppelgreener oops! I didn't update after the headline quote :)
