8:03 AM
*on my way to the actual velodrome*

8:14 AM
Sweet ! I've ridden around the 1974 commonwealth games velodrome here... but its outdoor, concrete, and 45 years old. Its a bit meh compared to a nice road.
@Mithical let us know how it goes please :)

6 hours later…
1:53 PM
@gschenk just regular Park Tools PolyLube, nothing fancy.

2:19 PM
Since washing out of grease is your greatest concern, you might give marine grease a try.
Where I live its hard to come by.
However, I think in coastal BC that might be different.
With all the rain and the wind it must be a paradise for sailing.

3:13 PM
Update: velodrome was terrifying at first but it quickly became quite enjoyable.

3:24 PM
Awesome! I've only had a couple of opportunities to ride in a velodrome, and not in years, but I totally get it.
Was it just a general introduction or were you doing drills?

First it was a general introduction, then there was an impromptu scratch race, then a thing where we had to avoid cones on the track.

Ooh, that sounds like fun.

This was with the national pick of teenage road cyclists, around twenty five of us.

The times I went we did a familiarization (it was long enough between that I needed it again) and then drills, but passing was on strict protocol so we never got to really race.

@DavidW Indeed. After you got over the OH GOD I HAVE NO BRAKES NO GEARS AND I'M ATTACHED AAHHH. ;)

3:33 PM
Lol. :)

@DavidW Yeah, the coaches kept a close eye for safety breaches
Now another five to six hours until I get home, though...

I've never really ridden a fixie, but I have over a thousand hours on spin bikes/trainers. So the "must keep pedalling" wasn't a big deal, but the "no brakes" really made me twitchy...
And then when we were doing pursuit drills, the bit where you come off the front and go way up the bank so you can slot smoothly back onto the end of the train, that was a bit freaky.

Aye. It's a bit weird but definitely enjoyable.

@Mithical That's a long day...

It's around a four and a half hour drive, yeah. A bit annoying.
Ride will arrive... eventually.

3:46 PM
Time for a nap, I guess... :)

3 hours later…
7:06 PM
@Mithical heh I wondered who that was

:)

Email says ">chicken-scratchings< is now following you on strava"

Yeah I've been considering switching it to English

Nah its interesting
I wouldn't even have the first clue what some of the more unusual texts in the world say
even russian looks kinda vaguely normal... kinda.
well no not really but its got some similar shapes

Heh. My Strava username is in one of the most ancient scripts in existence! ;)

7:16 PM
That's a good reason for not changing it.
