8:40 AM
@Derpy new show with same characters? Or totally new, from scratch?
@Derpy bad quality might aim for Tik Tok users, as it's unique with its blurry logo. In Israel, several companies already pushed ads with bad quality on purpose due to that.
It's like a torn jeans: they damage it on purpose to attract people.
So the video is with "static noise", which it's obvious was added on purpose, not some mistake.
@Derpy any example?
This can confirm or nuke my above assumption.... ;)
@Derpy yup, thanks!

1 hour later…
10:02 AM
@Shadow9 same character, but it is unclear if the plot is supposed to take place during the original show or in some "alternate reality".

hmm.... I see

the episodes won't probably even have a main plot, just single shoot slice-of-life episodes unrelated to each other.
as for the "bad quality"... I mean mainly this:
those are the Teen Titans from the old show. They are loosely based on the original DC comics, but the art style is far more "anime like" because the animation studio was collaborating with a Japan one.
the end result was quite appreciated by the fans.
After some... issues that I won't annoy you with, the show was cancelled.
It was then "rebooted" as Teen Titans GO!
if the original show focused on characters backstory and personal growth (especially for Robin and Raven) Teen Titans GO! is meant to be a "just fun" show, with no main plot, evolution or anything.
Just silly single episodes with the same characters
as a result, the art style was changed to this:
now, that is probably better that some fans would say, but the new art style had a specific purpose.
It allows for overly exaggerated facial expression to be used continuously.
that doesn't work well with detailed characters (and is one of the reason even Anime often fall back to chibi version of the characters when they want to give them over the top silly appearance)
Now, back to MLP.
Take the art style from the movie
the original pony life announcement was like this.
followed by this
as you can see, a different art style - simple if you want but still well-defined.
as I said, it seemed like they went for an anime "chibi" look.
See for example this chibi version of Naruto & co.
> The term is widely used in Japan to describe a specific style of caricature where characters are drawn in an exaggerated way. Typically these characters are small and chubby, with stubby limbs and oversized heads to make them resemble children. This style of artwork, also known as super deformed (shorthanded as SD), has since found its way into anime and manga fandom through its usage in manga works.
Chibi can be translated as 'little' (e.g. Chibi Maruko-chan, which means Little Miss Maruko), but it is not used the same way as chiisana [小さな] and chiisai [小さい] ('tiny', 'small', 'little' in
@Shadow9 Note that "chibi" is not used just as "small". The actual intended meaning is "cute"

11:18 AM
So, considering this, the first promotional pictures were interpreted as if the show makers were trying to go for a "cute" look.
then the ads was made
and it contained sequences like this one:
notice: the ads was about the TOYS, not the animated series, but it also featured animated characters
poorly animated characters
this is only an example, but what I meant is that all the animation seemed pretty "wacky", as if the characters were specifically drawn to be over-the-top silly
now .... consider this:

> way from home. Here, Pinkie Pie serves up frosted cupcakes to the best customers in the world— her friends! PONY LIFE episodes feature hilarious, “SLICE OF LIFE” stories that modern kids can relate to. The series is LOADED with magic, including a mysterious source of potions that Pinkie keeps hidden behind the bakery counter and breaks out when the need arises.
^ this is the alleged premise for the show.
as I said, it is already somehow clear that the fans probably wouldn't love the show to be turned in a toilet humor show "Uncle Grandpa" style.
So, having characters that seems constantly out of their mind is not gone to work if the show was meant to be a slice-of-life show about friendship.
But as I already said to Zoe, there is another issue.
Having a slice of life show about friendship try to solve problems using potions already is quite.. questionable.

then giving out the message

> drink this magic potion, kid, and all will seem joy

it is too easy to equate magic potion -> drug

and in that case, you don't want the characters to constantly look like they are out of their mind
I was not joking when I said some already fan-named the show "Pinkie in the Sky with Diamonds"
it is also worth noticing that the toy advertisement was removed from Hasbro official Facebook/Youtube pages
