Stack Overflow has just lowered the close/reopen vote threshold from 5 to 3:

Q: We’re lowering the close/reopen vote threshold from 5 to 3 for good

Megan RisdalIt’s my birthday today and I’ve got a gift for you. 🎁 We’re lowering the close/reopen vote threshold on Stack Overflow from 5 to 3. About a month ago, Shog shared the results of our experiment testing this lower close/reopen threshold. From that, we observed that closing, reopening, and editing...

I don't know if that would be good for MSE as well, but I am curious: Has it ever been discussed whether to reduce the required number of close votes on this site?

@user The "point" is supposed to be considered by you- not by others. Your actions are among the worst ethics violations I've ever encountered on this site.

Has anyone interest to establish a room for prime numbers and integer factorizations of several kinds of numbers ? I would coin in the expression (9n)!+n!+1. Is there a positive integer n, such that this expression is prime ? Upto n = 800 , this is not the case.

@Peter isn't there already a number theory room?

In fact, how can we attract some people to visit it and help getting interesting results ?
I posted my project there

6:42 PM
Martin's post from here might be useful for you question. In any case let's keep this room on-topic.

7:35 PM
@BillDubuque Sorry but really I can't see your point. If I think that a question is deleted without any good reason what should I do? Here it seems the best place to me to submit publicy some questions which doesn't deserve deletion. The fact I've answered or not to them is really not relevant. I've added the disclaimer after your request, even if I don't think it is necessary. What do you pretend more than that now?
@BillDubuque Should I accept passively the deletion of what I evaluate as good questions? Submit them here for undeletion doesn't seems an ethics violations to me. Your words are at least exagerated. I'm not flagging them but I reomend you delete it by yourself.

8:21 PM
@user You're engaging in undeletion voting ring behavior. Suppose everyone in this room did as you do. Then it'd be a ring of users soliciting actions on their posts - like upvoting rings. This is against the rules. Users have been suspended for such. That you are the only person doing it doesn't stop it from being against the rules. But it should give you pause that others don't behave so unethically. Rather they act on all posts they deem worthy & rarely mention their own posts

@BillDubuque By your reasoning would I conclude that on Crude you and other users are engaging in closing/deletion voting ring behavior? You do need to search for unfair behaviour where there is not. The scope of this room is to submit questions which deserve undeletion. Anyone can freely decide according to their own thought on that.
@BillDubuque Are you accusing other users which read this room to be a part of a undeletion voting ring? Your accusations are really weighty. You should be careful with that.

@user No, because no one else does what you do - focusing only on your own posts. Adding a disclaimer that that is not the reason for focusing on the posts does not stop it from being against the rules.

@BillDubuque @Jack @Zacky I would like to know also your advice on that. I'm violating some rules submiting questions for undeletion?

@user Open your eyes - do you see other users here or in CRUDE focusing only on their own posts? I am not aware of such.

@BillDubuque There are 4/5 users which repeatetly delete a bunch of questions which I've answered to. I don't accuse them to form a deletion ring but I wont to be free to submit these deletion to other users for an advice. I don't force anyone to undelete. I can't see the root of your accusations.

8:31 PM
I think one would not focus on deleting one's own posts.

user12692
I have to leave now. May be back later.

@Jack Presumably you mean undeleting, right?

@BillDubuque Moreover some days ago also another user has posted questions which contained his answers. I can't see anything bad in this behaviour. It is done publicy and anyone can judge by him/herself what do or not.

@user In response to your first sentence, that's no surprise considering you answer so many PSQs. As CRUDE closes/deletes such questions, many of your answers will be deleted too by the regulars of CRUDE.

@BillDubuque Anyway I'll make an explicit request to moderators for this issue.
@TheSimpliFire That's a part of the community. We can't agree on all the different ways to use the site. I accept that some of my questions are eligible for deletion for some users. But I would like to be free to submit some of them for undeletion here. I can't undelete them by my self therefore there cannot be any violation in that. I'm not paying anyone to undelete. I'm asking for an open advice form users which may have a different sensibility towards the kind of questions to preserve.

8:49 PM
@user Do you think it it also ok to submit here lists of many of your answers and request upvotes (vs. undeletion votes?) If not, what is the difference?

@BillDubuque I've never requested upvotes, I've just submited to evaluate wheter or not is the case for undeletion. If submition for deletion is allowed I really can't see why submission for undeletion would be a violation. In this case It would be really an unbalanced system to handle deletion/undeletion.

@user It's an analogy (no one claimed you requested upvotes). Please answer: if you changed all of your massive recent undeletion requests on your answers to upvote requests do you think that this is also ok?
@user But focused submission for deletion is not allowed, i.e. you can't target a specific user. It is the localization aspect that you seem to be missing. No on else in these rooms attempts to focus others onto their own posts - as you've done en masse.

9:05 PM
@BillDubuque It is not an analogy. Those are two completely different issue. I like of course to receive upvotes to my answers form users which have found useful my contribution (I've never made a request for that). Here we are talking of questions which doesn't deserve deletion, I request to evaluate for undeletion. Those are well distinct and not related things.

@user But it is a valid analogy - you are soliciting others to take actions on only your own posts. It doesn't matter whether those actions are upvotes or undeletions.

@BillDubuque It seems to me that submission for deletion is regularly practiced on Crude for example and sometimes is forms which seems to me clearly in violation of our CoC name calling, joking, etc.). The undelation requested here is for the question not for the answers, you are loosing this big detail in my opinion.

@user If you are aware of any targeting then you should report it to mods. I haven't seen any recently (except for your self-targeting here)

@BillDubuque I'm submitting some questions and I also evaluate questions submitted from others. I'm not focused only on questions containing answer given by me. I would like that anyone can submit here to others all questions which, in their opinion, are eligeble for undeletions.
@BillDubuque You can read again. I'm talking just of submission for deletion which is regularly practiced on Crude. I'm not against that if also submission for undeletion can be practiced freely. In this way the community can decide, othewise there would be an highly unbalaced system.
@BillDubuque Anyway, I've formulated a specific request to mods for clarifications on that issue. Thanks for the suggestions but try to be more careful with accusations. They are not good. It seems you are trying to put me in a bad perspective. You should raise your point in a more proper way.

9:52 PM
@user I don't know what you mean by "accusations". I mentioned only facts.

@BillDubuque Isn't it "You're engaging in undeletion voting ring behavior" an accusation? Please stop with your rethorical way to conduct a discussion. You have already made your point clear. I've asked for clarification. Im warmly invitig you again to formulate your points in a more proper way according to our CoC. I'm sure you can do that.

@user Pointing out that certain actions satisfy certain definitions is a fact, not an accusation.

10:08 PM
@user I'm not sure what others understand by "voting ring", but in my view it happens between two or more users, when one votes for other(s) posts only because they voted for his/her posts too. That's a bad thing to do.

@Zacky Yes, but even if only one user engages in such self-targeting it is still unethical and against the rules. I didn't claim there was more than one user doing so.

@MartinR I don't know. But 5 seems better than 3. A question would be better judged with 5 users instead of only 3.

@BillDubuque Rhetorical ineed. The "fact" is your own supposition. I seems you are raising that in this way to put in a bad pespetctive me and this room. For that reason you should avoid that.

@user We can let the community decide the ethics of such self-targeting. That no one else does it should cause you pause.

@Zacky I totally agree with you. For that reason I think that accusation by @BillDubuque, formulated in that way, are near to a defamation.
@BillDubuque I mean that you should avoid to accuse not to raise the issue. I disagree with the way you are doing that not with the discussion itself. I'm open to discuss everything but I can't accept the way you are trying to do that.

10:14 PM
@user I tried to open your eyes to certain long-established matters of ethics here. Apparently you don't want to see. Best of luck.

@BillDubuque Not only I see your point, I've also asked for clarifications to moderators. What I can't accept is that it seems you already have in the hands your conclusion. You are not the judge here. I accept your point of view but you can't accuse anyone of "voting rules violation" in that way.

Look at 8 latest answers by user. Duplication in there already in the sense that the same technique of handling $1^\infty$ limits appears repeatedly. That is why I think what you are doing is against the spirit of the site.

@user It's better to ask a mod's advice, not mine, regarding if it's okay to link many posts where you're not a third party (you already posted an answer).

@user Your don't seem to understand - I'm trying to help you. If I wasn't I could instead simply submit to the mods the list of 20 or 30 self-targeted actions you've requested here in the past few days and you might well get suspended. As former mods, Jyrki and I know these matters well. But my goal in moderation has always been to strive to understand bad behavior and find constructive fixes rather than simply suspending users.

I try to look at the content of a post, not at who put it there and if I think it's making something worth keeping, then I undelete.
I'm sure though that it's okay to link posts where you're not a third party. However, I'm not sure about only (or majority) linking such type of posts.

10:30 PM
@BillDubuque But do you think that I've posted those question hiding that those questions contained my answers? I've also add in the last submissions a disclaimer on that. The points are the questions to undelete not the answers. I thank you for the suggestions and I'll take it into considerations but you should be more careful in the manners.
@Zacky Yes indeed I've already asked for an advice on that.
@Zacky That's indeed also my point. We need to judge the usefulness of the content not the advantage or damage of some specific user.
@JyrkiLahtonen There are all the toools, instruments to handle duplicates or what you think are duplicates by closure or other way but please don't refer to specific user in that way.

@user Honestly I don't know why you submitted so many undeletion requests only on threads containing your answers. I tried to get you to explain your reasoning but I had no success. If you watch how others behave on such matters you will see that they usually apologize profusely for requesting actions that affect their own posts, and do so only rarely.

Regarding your previous message and for the record, I haven't voted to undelete for most of the posts that you previously linked. I've explained a bit here.
That obivously doesn't stop you from posting here.

10:49 PM
@BillDubuque I've submitted them because I think that the content can be useful for the site. If someone else think so maybe they will be undeleted otherwise them will remain deleted. So simple. Isn't it? I think you are making complicated a thing really simple and done publicy under the light.

11:07 PM
Seems like @user requested to undelete a bunch of his/her questions.. :P .And some of you say this is not correct, and indeed this might look very selfish and unethical.. but we can see it the other way around too. This user, knows exactly what he/she answered, it took him/her time & effort on answering the questions. It's his/her work and it should be appreciated
You also say, he/she is only posting just because of the simple fact that there are answer by him/her on the deleted questions. But if he/she doesn't defend his/her work, who will?

@Isabella Thanks for your contribution and ideas. Yes indeed I know exactly what questions are and I can submit for evaluate undeletion conscientiously. That's of course a good point.
@Isabella I'm trying to defending a content because I think it can be useful for the site. If somone upvote a question or an answer it means that it is appreciated and useful to someone. I'm in favour for deletion for bad questions or wrong answers. Correct answers shouldn't never be downvoted or deleted. This is really against any ethic rules in my opinion.
@Isabella I hope you also can contribute submitting some useful content you think should be preserved from closure or deletion. Thanks again.

11:26 PM
@Isabella So if a user posted a huge list of their answers that were downvoted (vs. deleted) and requested upvotes would you claim that too is good? This is exactly how voting rings get started - with one user pushing the limits and eventually others joining in - little by little. Some users have gained over 30K rep due to such voting rings here. It's essential to nip it in the bud.

@BillDubuque I don't understand why you rhetorically continue to put those two things together. This is a wrong way to see the issue discussed here. GENTLE is aimed to try "to preserve useful content on MSE" not to upvote answers. You hould stay on the point and not diverge toward something else we are not discussing here.
@BillDubuque If you look on CRUDE someone else is invoking for punitive deletion to specific users. Maybe you should also go there to invite users to behave in a proper way.

@BillDubuque well of course not. It's not right to request for upvotes for a huge list of answers. The thing is that I don't see evilness in the case we are discussing about undeletion a huge list of this user's answers.

@Isabella Please explain why you believe it is wrong to solicit upvotes but right to request undeletion votes on huge lists of one's own posts. Are you aware that one can lose rep on deletion and gain it back on undeletion?

11:45 PM
@BillDubuque Please be precise, they are not my own post, they are questions from other users which are, in the case we are discussing, also answered by me. And I don't request undeletion, I request to evaluate whether or not a question deserve deletion or undeletion. I'm asking for an advice form other users.

@user But all of these threads contain one of your answers. So typically you will have lost rep when they were deleted, and will gain it back when it is undeleted.

@BillDubuque I see. You think this user is arguing just because of their rep? //ok. Well I can't tell for sure about it, I can't see the deleted questions (I have less than 10k) but you and others can see it. So if you see user's answer with at least one upvote, then why do you think is that? what would that mean?
or even accepted answers
@BillDubuque it's wrong to solicit upvotes because that's like cheating. You should earn them by the community points of view

@Isabella I have no idea about this particular case. But that is why one has to be very careful about these matters in general. We cannot ever know for sure what motivates another user - maybe they want to be on the front page or maybe they truly believe that there are some gems in a thread deserving undeletion. But surely there are gems in threads of other users too, so when one user focuses only on their own posts in such endeavors it raises red flags.
These are the matters one needs to consider when devising general policies. Some users have gone to great lengths to game the system driven by the underlying gamification in the platform. One needs to devise policies that guard against its evil effects.

@BillDubuque I presume that questions are deleted not to cause rep points loosing by users involved, why are you assuming that undeletion should be aimed to rep earning. The matter is really simple: when a question is undeleted it means that all upvotes and all downvotes too are fairly gained or lost. All other inferences are your own speculations.
@BillDubuque That's not true again, if you are referring to me. I vote for undelation all the questions I think deserve undelation. Many of them submitted here of course, not alla but a good part.

@user Please see "in general". I'm explaining what matters need to be considered when devising general policies on these matters.

11:56 PM
@BillDubuque The only evil effect I know is do not accept the way a Q/A site works. It is self regulated by the voting system, when an answer is useful to some user it is upvoted otherwise it is not voted, when is wrong it should be downvoted. The evil is the use of voting or closure or deletion as a punitive action aimed to adfirm their own pint of view on the site.

Oh, and "another user" does not refer to you. Again, you should really change your username back to something less generic to avoid such confusion (as many users have requested)

@BillDubuque I'm pride to have earned so many points not for the points themselves which are meaningless but they prove that my effor has been useful to many people. That's the only think really important for me. The knowledge in never too much and many people needs help to learn.
