@Unionhawk - I already know where you're going with this, and we'll have to agree to disagree. If I call myself "she" or "vree" it is up to others to determine whether my words reflect reality. That I'm referring to myself doesn't make whatever I say about myself true. If I call myself a billionaire and someone chooses not to call me that, it would be absurd to say that affirming I'm a billionaire is correct and not doing so is incorrect. — Scott Hannen 6 secs ago

@Catija, I don't think time passing will help in this case. Chipps, Fullerton, et al., have shown that they'll rarely interact with the community at all, but when they do they're fully capable of abusing their power and lashing out arbitrarily, and then just walking away and ignoring the resulting mess. Going radio silent again, as they're doing now, does nothing at all to show that next time they come down from the mountaintop to try to solve some real or imagined problem in the community, be it months or years from now, the results won't be exactly the same. — Nate S - Reinstate Monica 49 secs ago

@bobobobo In psychology, the term demand character denotes qualities of a stimulus that make certain behaviors of a person more likely than others. For example, road markings visually guide drivers along their respective lanes, making it more likely that drivers steer along those lanes instead of into the oncoming traffic. This "visual guidance" is the demand characteristic of the road markings. — user644520 1 min ago

@Unionhawk My point exactly. The FAQ should focus on the behaviors they want, not whether or not people have a “correct” view of gender identity. They’re distracting from the real issue, which is “don’t be disrespectful.” If that’s all the policy focused on, they probably wouldn’t be getting all this pushback. — EJoshuaS - Reinstate Monica 2 mins ago

@Unionhawk Why do we need further justification of "don't be rude"? They're creating unnecessary controversy. They don't need to take a position on that particular issue in order to ask people to behave respectfully (which is the main point of the policy anyway). From my perspective, if all they said was "either use the gender that people request or write in a gender-neutral way for everyone" and let it go at that there'd be far less confusion and pushback on this. — EJoshuaS - Reinstate Monica 1 min ago

Not really seeing your point I'm afraid. You're suggesting naming all this after the subject of the minor disagreement that an SO Inc used as an excuse to sack and publicly slander a moderator at a time of growing discontent between users and staff. Whether the goal of a preliminary injunction is at all realistic I don't know, and you're right the question of damages is out the window because you can't prove actual harm, but it should be possible to at least have a court force them to do this properly for the user who's suing. IMHO this post is a dis-service. The pronoun issue is a distraction and a Red Herring. @einpoklum-reinstateMonica, I have a strong suspicion that there are trans users on both sides of several of the recent contentious issues. Other than all being trans, they don't necessarily have anything in common, so I would expect opinions to vary on any issue. The point of this post isn't the relations b/t SE & users per se. I'm just wondering what LGBTQ+ users think right now. In a sense, I'd like an update on the lavender letter. Most people are not aware that IE 11 still receives security updates, it even from time to time, receives very minor feature updates (limited to IE11 builds on supported versions of Windows). Now the Trident engine will never be updated to be feature complete with any of the other current browser engines, which is likely the major reason, Stack Exchange has decided not to support it. Although, not supporting IE 11, sort of breaks the general policy of supporting browsers that are supported (i.e. by Google, Mozilla, Apple, Microsoft, etc). — Ramhound 11 secs ago

I've not seen any counterviews that state that Monica's de-modding was valid (even the CTO said it wasn't). At worst you could say that some of Monica's views, which she only discussed in mod-only space, were hurtful to some people. While I've seen a couple folks say they were glad this happened (rare but...), no one has shown that the process SE went through was legitimate in any way. It didn't match their process at the time (there wasn't much of one, but there was one for users in general). It was a screwup start to finish. @DanBron One of the reasons given for closing this originally was because it could be seen as a demand on trans people. I stand by my first sentence - we should not demand people to repeat themselves in order to be heard. I offer this as a reminder of what Aza specifically has said. I felt CW avoided me "taking credit" for it. It might also better invite edits to improve citations. I would say the request for me not to answer was explicit. I challenged / re-interpreted that request. This can be deleted on Aza's wishes, or if it causes drama without adding to the discussion. — sourcejedi 45 secs ago

Btw your question body/title is a little bit misleading. It first reads like you found some code somewhere else and want to share it here. — Tom 5 secs ago

@DanBron Yes. I understood that. I think :-). I acknowledged I'm walking a fine line. If the people I'm trying to help say I'm stepping on their toes, I'll stop. Part of me walking that line is trying to guess if those people are anonymously downvoting or not. — sourcejedi 1 min ago

That will give me interesting questions, but that's not the purpose. The questions can be questions that are trivial to solve and/or really boring. It's the answers that matter to me — Garo 2 mins ago

True... I couldn't think of a clear question that would be short enough to fit in the title. This is the best I could think off to keep it both short and related to the real question — Garo 6 secs ago

@sourcejedi I feel like the idea behind this question was to ask how people feel now, and a good portion of this answer is reporting what people posted then. The way I read it, the OP expressed this with "checking in", like "It's been a while and I already know a lot of you thought things were bad a month ago, but how do you feel now that some time has passed? Have things gotten better or worse or stayed the same?" So in a sense I feel like this doesn't really answer the question. — metasnail 1 min ago

Not sure about this... I think the highest up-voted answers will just be the clearest explanations. But they won't necessarily introduce new ideas. (I assume in most cases it will even be the opposite, the answer that will get the highest votes will be a answer that most people already know) — Garo 1 min ago

@metasnail I see valid points in both your comments. I've edited in response to your first comment. I lean towards keeping this answer at least as a very weak second to heather, or even to Skript47's point "It might just be that people have just left". If someone seconds heather, then probably I run out of reasons and should delete this answer. — sourcejedi 58 secs ago
