@Memor-X It was always just him trying to make it look like he hasn't a nazi.
> The private prison industry is set to be upended after California lawmakers passed a bill on Wednesday banning the facilities from operating in the state. The move will probably also close down four large immigration detention facilities that can hold up to 4,500 people at a time.

1:28 AM
@Elva fuck
All the Nazis who thought "oh this must be forced" won?
PewDiePie is a bad guy
But money for stopping bad guys is good
but this is ridiculous
Hi @Ash
How are you?

user15026
Surviving, mostly! :)

Damn the video on Facebook is broken
@Ash well that's good I think
👍
(I know the account tweeted it to look bad, but I like that he isn't saying all the bullshit every other candidate does about "oh welovethesecondamendmentitssogreatwewouldnevertrytotakegunsaway")

2:05 AM
@Elva Video is now private

@Memor-X probably he bribed them
> I … I don’t understand...
- dude makes anti-Semitic jokes
- dude gets shit for it, rightfully
- dude says he’s going to donate to ADL as a way to take responsibility
- some idiots on the internet don’t like this
- he decides not to donate to them, as a way to... take responsibility??

I feel like I’m missing a piece of logic here.

@Stormblessed also keep in mind that alt-right boys are actually reading it as an iron cross.
He went on to say "I mean it's because he chose to wear a georgian cross!!", but why'd you wear a thing looking so close to an iron cross on a video about not supporting an anti semitic organization
and replies agree: https://twitter.com/LogicEkko/status/1172195629625421834 https://twitter.com/DollarMail/status/1172193829526503424 https://twitter.com/moldbug2020/status/1172195151604674560
https://twitter.com/BigBlueBeast81/status/1172262359974449152 (cw: fascism, racism, ableism, list goes on)
And "assuming" this was an attempt to signal his reasons or rather his support for the ideology, what matters is that his point came across to them as what he intended.

7:38 AM
This is Jommeke. Jommeke is an 11 year old boy from Belgian comics. Tell me he doesn't look EXACTLY like Boris Johnson. Thing is, this boy is the 1955 version

8:17 AM
Jommeke looks a bit smarter
But yeah
Also another source for the video that got taken down: theverge.com/2019/9/12/20862696/…

I did not watch the debate last night because I don't hate myself that much somehow but "Joe Biden won by not losing" being where we are is just…whew
Worst timeline

12:09 PM
Trump apparently blames efficient lightbulbs for his looking orange and I guess that includes the sun
Which matters insomuch as he brings up that you're forced to use them so I guess we'll be going back to bulbs from the 1800s or whatever

@TimStone maybe he has scienced that greenhouse gasses make the sun less efficient and thus not make him orange
but yeh it's stupid. isn't the light from those bulbs more white?

It's not more of a hue that would make things orange, at any rate
Hmm the title on this poll seems a bit off; the question was about whether the average person would have to make major sacrifices, and that might be true for the best outcome, but I don't think it's necessary generally? If all energy production shifted to renewables that would be a huge dent with no immediate noticable inconvenience to the end user, putting aside whatever shenanigans were leveraged to pay for it
Dealing with cars is definitely a bigger issue for most people, but

@TimStone unless they are thinking what is actually poor energy transitioning on the part of the government/companies where there are rolling backouts because there's not enough power
because a common tactic i see from people arguing against renewable is that "oh if you replace it all with wind/solar/etc there wont be enough power" but that's bull because if you're doing it properly you would have made enough stations to meet the same ammount of power

12:43 PM
@TimStone I thought about going to the county dem party thing to get belligerent and fight the party chair but I decided not to do that
I should have gotten one of our "no more presidents 2020" buttons at convention

1:13 PM
@Unionhawk lol

"Giant Mechanical Guillotine 2020"
Hmmm mechanical is the wrong word
"Giant Automated Guillotine 2020"

1:42 PM
So uh, it's AOC
but then it is set on fire
and there are skulls behind it
and socialism

100 GAJILLION DEAD BOTTOM TEXT

2:36 PM
@fredley This is a cursed video

@TimStone Is that why that Fox News anchor was eating that steak embedded with incandescent light bulbs then?

2:55 PM
Oh yeah, it was
I forgot about that. It's not the first time he's mentioned it

3:28 PM
@TimStone wtf

3:39 PM
@Yuuki Neither do I.
@Wipqozn Great news.

@puzzlepiece87 It really is. Hopefully the rest of the country follows suite.

that's awkward

3:56 PM
I see Jeff Atwood had, as is known in the business, A Normal One yesterday twitter.com/codinghorror/status/1172279395035308032?s=19

Oh god I missed that
I don't even understand, he has frequent conversations with Pinboard and already knows the answer to this

> Coalfire's Justin Wynn and Gary Demercurio, who are again still in jail, have been charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools. Their bond has been set at $50,000, and they are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on September 23—in the same courthouse they were caught breaking into.
Wtf is wrong with the people running those courts. Charges? Investigation? Jfc you release the fucking people holy shit.
@Unionhawk tech also has a history of horribly mistreating their workers, especially startups. Also, not everyone in tech can easily find another job. It depends strongly on your experience and where you live.

@puzzlepiece87 This seems like amateur hour from the security company. If you plan to break in, you'd want to make that explicit in your contract

Instead of asking "why should well-paid tech workers unionize", maybe ask "why shouldn't well-paid tech workers unionize".

@MadScientist it did
> The company was asked to attempt unauthorized access to court records through various means to learn of any potential vulnerabilities. SCA did not intend, or anticipate, those efforts to include the forced entry into a building.

4:02 PM
@Wipqozn is a sort of monarch of the industry why would I want more money

@MadScientist well, not explicit I suppose, but they were supposed to obtain unlawful access. Not sure what else they expected.

@Wipqozn this was about digital records, so I can imagine people not thinking about physical methods

@Unionhawk Jeff Bezos: "Why do people who work in digital stores want to unionize. I make plenty of money!"

@MadScientist Well I guess we can at least give them a B for effort given they could have just been pocketing cash because the Secretary of State was corrupt

And I would expect some very explicit agreements about notifying everyone with a firearm in the building about the test if you plan to break in, there are worse ways this could have ended

4:04 PM
Love to be the Democratic SoS in a very red state but then also be terrible
It was really confusing there for a bit when we had to talk about music Grimes too because I was like "Why is Grimes doing corruption in Kentucky?"

@MadScientist I mean, that's fair, but the fact they're still in jail is just a huge miscarriage of justice.

I believe they have posted bail
But this was kind of poor planning on the company's and on the pros' end
You should probably have a lawyer on speed dial if you're doing red team

@TimStone Probably Quebec

Hmm on the one hand that's particularly petty but on the other hand Joe is senile so like we shouldn't ignore that
@Wipqozn lmao, excellent

…This, this is a real Biden story? How is this the first time I've heard about it?

4:44 PM
Also, diplomatic immunity doesn't apply to embassy workers, IIRC.

It doesn't
A CBC article from before the Court case mentions that

I think it's reserved for top-level diplomats.
Even some higher-ups at an embassy might not have diplomatic immunity.

4:58 PM
@puzzlepiece87 I think a lot of people don't really have to interact with their health insurance, it's just something that kind of exists, or view it as a "well at least I only have a $1,500 deductible instead of a $15,000 deductible"

Yeah, I had some people argue with me that people actually really do care about their insurance company and I remain entirely unconvinced
I refuse to believe anyone has an "I stan Aetna" shirt

@TimStone I care that I have insurance, not who provides it.

Except for people who literally work at aetna
yeah

Except the employees of Aetna who are contractually obligated to have one after their social medial team got into a callout war with Bluecross Blueshield

what

4:59 PM
It was a hypothetical
For now

oh

It'll happen

god dammit

We still have several months of 2019

smdh @BCBS how can you let one of your insureds die like this we at aetna would never deny someone's coverage like this
grim

5:01 PM
@TimStone The one thing we learned is that there is no bottom, it can always get dumber, and it will

Yeah it's really depressing but also kind of impressive

@TimStone I think you'll find we're stuck in Eternal 2016

5:30 PM
That…is kind of crazy, it wasn't even like the car is that far in there. I guess it's just not something easily seen from the surface

6:08 PM
Whoa, agreed! I don't doubt it's hard to see from the surface, but still, that's shocking while looking at it!

@puzzlepiece87 That must've been bizarre to the current property owner.
> "Oh hey, I used to live here so I was creeping on the place from Google Earth and I found this weird-looking thing in the lake."
> "okay... i guess i'll check out... wtf it's a body"
Well, a car with a body inside.
But still.

Exactly, well illustrated.

6:42 PM
tl;dr NCAA is greedy as fuck
> The legislation has garnered national attention, with athletes such as NBA stars LeBron James and Draymond Green praising the potential for California to give college athletes a share of the windfall they help create for their universities and the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. The Senate gave final approval to Senate Bill 206 by Sen. Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) in a 39-0 vote. The Assembly passed the bill 73-0 on Monday.
> California would allow college athletes to earn money from the use of their names, images and likenesses under a bill passed by the state Legislature on Wednesday and headed to Gov. Gavin Newsom.
> But the NCAA has forcefully pushed back against the bill, saying it has the potential to kill amateur athletics if it becomes law. The NCAA sent Newsom a letter Wednesday calling the legislation “unconstitutional” and “harmful.”
how the fuck is "The people doing all the work will actually get a share of the pot" unconstitutional lol
> “If the bill becomes law and California’s 58 NCAA schools are compelled to allow an unrestricted name, image and likeness scheme, it would erase the critical distinction between college and professional athletics and, because it gives those schools an unfair recruiting advantage, would result in them eventually being unable to compete in NCAA competitions,” the letter said.

@Wipqozn It's unconstitutional in the sense that's not good for the constitution of our profits and it's harmful in the sense that it harms our profits.
@Wipqozn s/"compete in NCAA competitions"/"be exploited by a monopolistic system intent on wringing as much money as it can out of young people"

Honestly I can't even wrap my head around that.
Like I get it, it's "we're greedy as fuck." But they're literally saying it's unfair for people to paid.

I mean, yeah I guess some people put value in the idea of "we're a bunch of people playing sports for fun and not for profits"/amateurism but that's emphatically not what the NCAA is.

like "It's unfair if you actually pay your employees, because then it makes it hard for companies that want to rely on slave labour to compete!"

When you're talking about "scouting the best players", you're no longer amateurs.

6:49 PM
@Yuuki I mean, the NCAA made $1.1 billion in profit in 2017.
That's not amateur. That's completely fucked.
> NCAA president Mark Emmert sent a letter to two state assembly committees that implied that California schools would be barred from participating in NCAA championships if the bill becomes law.
jfc these execs should all be in jail
Slavery was outlawed, right?

Plenty of good football programs are in Cali and they all have healthy internal rivalries, IIRC, so they could just make their conference.
And they'd pull more players because the students would have a share in the profits.
Really, you'd probably only need Texas to pass a similar law, join up with Cali, and the NCAA's toast.

good

... you know, I just realized that since african american players seem to make up 75% of the NBA playerbase (Adn I think NCAA is similar? HArder to find info on) then my comparison to Civil War War slavery was uh, more apt than I intended.
Like jfc, stop taking every chance to exploit african americans holy fuck.

you love to see it really

@Yuuki That be great

6:55 PM
Football might one of the few things on which you could get Texas to agree with California.
It's incredibly disturbing how obsessed the GOP is with a first-term representative.

@TimStone how bad of a prosecutor do you have to be get rejected by a grand jury

It's just confusing because it was only like, yesterday they were supposed to be going to the grand jury
So…Was an attempt made purely to please the President? That seems very likely but also very dumb and bad
@TimStone presses rewind on the tapes of history to find the last interaction between the Taliban and the Russians and oh, well, hm
lol

7:11 PM
@TimStone You know, the same thing they ran on in 2016

I'm sure it'll work out this time!
@Yuuki Oh lol I realised he doesn't even know what bulbs we're moving to now
The savings between LED and CFL bulbs is admittedly less significant but who doesn't want to avoid changing the thing for 25,000 hours of use?

> "we're also going to solve incandescent bulbs"
uhhh

@TimStone wew

shocked_pikachu.gif

7:19 PM
@TimStone Up-front costs are about the same, maybe a bit more for LED, but the lifetime costs, including hidden costs, are significantly lower for LED, and CFL was already significantly lower than incandescent.
@TimStone I think I'm going to be sick

Oh, yeah. I meant the disparity between CFLs and LEDs isn't as great as incandescent and CFLs, but mostly because that was already a huge jump. The solution is obviously to just go LEDs though, not whatever the hell he's dreaming up
Hmm, really disappointing to see that Shaun King has no intention of stopping to be Shaun King

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer is promising to bring back the public transit tax credit, which the party says is part of its environment plan. globalnews.ca/news/5898649/andrew-scheer-public-transit-credit
> The Liberal government cut the tax credit in the 2017 budget, saying it was ineffective and they would rather spend the money on building transit.
> The Conservatives say a family of four that regularly commuted on transit in the Greater Toronto Area would save nearly $1,000 per year.
> At the time the Liberals cut the public transit tax credit, it was costing the federal government about $200 million a year.

Is there a catch like you have to a) keep all the transit tickets b) have a car, that you're choosing not to use?

@TimStone not sure, but my main thing is just make transit cheaper
A tax credit is just extra work, and a lot of folks won't even realize it.

oh right lol, why wouldn't you just subsidize fares in that case? (we know why)

7:32 PM
I'm not sure how the old system worked

How do people usually pay for transit there?
From what it looks like the credit was only available if you had unlimited travel passes, presumably precluding anyone who has to pay fares on an as-needed basis
But maybe that's not an issue in practice?

@TimStone They normally buy bus cards.
Actually, it varies a lot by the city and province
I know Vancouver busses are super fancy and have cards.
As in, reusable cards

Ah, okay, cool

The stuff in Halifax is just a one time use thing.
There might be passes too, I think.
I know Halifax gives out bus passes to low income earners as well, but I think it's limited
50% off of your income is less than 34k. Capped at 2000 people.

7:46 PM
14 days. Oh wow. Harsh.

> “It is the stupidest idea I have ever heard,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid professional repercussions.
From the skid row article

@TimStone [kim jong-un intensifies]
[putin intensifies]
[mbs intensifies]

It's just so great how nonchalantly he debases everyone, extremely confusing to me why anyone thinks they're going to get out on top by letting him continue

(this list is much longer than it should be)
[xi jinping is confused on whether or not to intensify]

> According to 2017 census data, there are approximately 100,000 vacant homes in the city of Los Angeles—that’s nearly twice the number needed to house the some 58,936 individuals that are homeless in the greater L.A. area
A People’s Party of Canada candidate has been told he can’t run anymore after calling on the party’s leader to denounce white supremacy. citynews1130.com/2019/09/12/ppc-racism-candidate

@Wipqozn :|

That's the party Bernier made when the PC party wasn't racist enough.

bit of an odd place to make a campaign video, imo, but i guess that's how instagram politics works

Also, he still supports the party Hahaha wtf

8:04 PM
so he's against the racism and he's also against the party's climate change denial platform
why is he a part of this party?
> He said the party’s stance on freedom of speech was initially what drew him to it.
Oh.
uhhh
pretty sure other political parties in Canada support free speech too, my dude

@Yuuki Yeah but not rabidly enough to allow you to call on party leadership to denounce white supremacy allow you to say all the Nazi things you want.
Did Nazi that coming

@Yuuki I think by free speech he means hate speech

So he has that really niche alt-right view of "let's get rid of the <minority> but not get too worked about <other minority>"?

Probably

1 hour later…
9:32 PM
Would be quite interesting if they actually managed to get a Grand jury to refuse to indict

9:53 PM
You'll be entirely unsurprised that after they discovered those surveillance devices around DC that were claimed to be used by the Israelis Trump doesn't believe Israel would spy on us

10:51 PM
I mean a FBI deputy director is a kind of cop so are we really surprised a grand jury said no

11:05 PM
Usually they wouldn't even get that far so tough call
