Since the edit, I've voted to reopen this question.

no improvement whatsoever (or maybe attempt to reply?)
no improvement whatsoever - The apt-get command is still reasonable to use, and apt and apt-get don't differ in their behavior for the install action.

I've voted POB. Dual-booting Windows and macOS on any hardware (including Apple hardware) is off-topic for Ask Ubuntu, but if that were the only problem then the last paragraph could just be removed.

NAA - attempts to answer a quite different question from what was asked

This and that suggested edit massively overuse code formatting on things that aren't code. I just clicked Reject on each, but Reject and Edit would be reasonable.

I would not flag that as "rude or abusive."
I've flagged it as NAA, dowvoted it, and voted to delete it.

@EliahKagan I'm holding off my reopen vote because Have also tried to install nautilus-admin to 19.10 without success.

Okay.

@EliahKagan Mitch post NAA!!!

Well it answered something quite different from what was asked. Any of us might make that mistake. Also it's old... this reminds me that I had been intending to go back to some my earliest posts and make sure that any that were NAA are fixed or deleted. Plus it could be good fodder for Natty! :)
(I didn't report that one to Natty because Natty doesn't examine answers in light of their questions and it doesn't use natural language processing to try to understand the subject of an answer, so it can't really be trained to recognize the situation where an answer totally misinterprets the question. That would be super hard and is not a goal for Natty.)
Arguably that other one could've been reported to Natty because it's formatting weirdness may be indicative of NAA... but I don't think that's very solid reasoning, so I didn't do it (we sould flag and delete it though).

Yeah. Sometimes I feel "No codeblock" shouldn't be a reason to catch as NAA.
@EliahKagan Once I saw one of my older post and I found there were already 2 delete votes. I ended up deleting that because it was a very bad answer/

8:51 AM
@EliahKagan In contrast, their newer follow-up "question", which was written as a direct insult to people, was rightly flagged and deleted as rude or abusive.
^^ In light of that development, it would be good to check back on that post in case they edit it in such a way as to make it red-flaggable. But hopefully it'll just be deleted as NAA soon.

@user3140225 The question looks unclear and answer looks like a rant.

Yeah, the question is unclear. I've voted to close it. As for rants: Should rant posts be considered against the “Be Nice” policy (“Rude/Abusive” flaggable)?
See also the general meta.SE answer about red flag usage and this meta question. Rants sometimes turn out to be flaggable as rude or abusive, but when they do, it's not because they're rants. I should perhaps have linked those posts in my meta answer.
(I'm reluctant to edit the meta answer now without also fixing the link to the old "be nice" policy, otherwise providing a currently verifiable citation for my claims about network-wide policy from SE requires, or otherwise substantiating those claims. Eventually I may get around to this, or perhaps someone else will.)

@Kulfy Yes. I had initially flagged it as rude, but then retracted the flag and flagged it as NAA, as per Eliah's suggestion.
I also flagged the question as unclear.

@EliahKagan The previous one has been removed by the OP.

The newer one was closed as a duplicate of the canonical question about that topic instead. I think my comment still makes sense since it gives some advice about how to edit, and since since the OP still has the option to undelete and edit the older one.

Yeah that makes sense.

Do we need the tag? Is that useful?

I don't think so.

It's only on eight questions. Would it be reasonable to just edit those posts, removing the tag (as well as performing whatever other useful changes there are to make)?
I guess an argument could be made that someone could be an expert on or have a particular interest in case-insensitivity, in that it's related to encodings and locales.
So I'm not sure I want to just de-tag it without checking with people. OTOH, posting on meta for a tag that's on eight questions seems... certainly acceptable, but perhaps not wholly necessary. I don't know.

IMO case insensitive might be vague. I'm not sure about the expertise in this particular thing.

@EliahKagan The previous one has been removed by the OP.
I'm not sure if they are planning to undelete the previous one.

10:40 AM
@pomsky I don't think that qualifies for 20k deletion. The error message in the second question is different (it's from a different .list file); it may have appeared after they did something about the original message. I still think they should undelete and expand their original question, but I don't think that's the only reasonable option. I do think both should remain closed until one is edited, and I do think that they are duplicates.
But I think 20k deletion (deletion of questions within the first 48 hours) is really only appropriate when the question clearly can't or won't be improved to the point where it might be reasonable to reopen it or, in rare cases, where it's actively causing harm (and still fairly unlikely to be improved).
As stated above, that's my opinion on how 20k question deletion should be used. But there's a meta.SE post by a CM (Shog9) regarding when 20k delete votes should be used: How can we stop premature deletion?

Understood, but don't think this question really qualifies as a good "signpost"

That pertains to the decision about whether or not to delete a duplicate question eventually.
What I am talking about is whether or not to delete a question (duplicate or otherwise) immediately. We're not usually supposed to do that.
If the question remains for two days, and there is no further activity on it, then I'll cast a delete vote on it if I notice it (you can also ping me to call my attention to it if you like).

sure

The reason I'm calling this "20k deletion" is that 10k users can cast delete votes on questions that have been closed for 48 hours. It's only 20k users who can do so immediately because it is intended that such deletions be uncommon.

It seems we got some new close voters. Many old questions are being VTC'd as OT-EOL.

10:57 AM
Hmm. That's not good. I've noticed this today as well, though I wasn't sure if it was increasing or if I'd just had the luck of encountering a couple such cases in the queue. Most old questions about old releases have nothing wrong with them and should simply remain open. Some others have some reason that they should be closed, but never as OT EOL.

They are increasing from past 2-3 days.

It might be good to post comments on the questions that are getting wrong OT "EOL" close votes, briefly explaining and linking to the help or meta about how old questions don't become retroactively off-topic when releases cease to be supported.

They're asking me to tell them why the information they chose to include in the question is relevant?
@Kulfy ^^ Anyway, they've clarified that the nautilus-admin thing was tried on 19.04 too, so you may want to cast your reopen vote.
^^ "No" is a valid answer, but I think that's not an answer at all. It's basically saying, I imagine not.
The question has talks about "Failed to create an OpenGL context. Your graphics card must support at least OpenGL v3.1" which the other answer addresses, in addition to mentioning that the specs would not yield good gameplay.

5:23 PM
@EliahKagan already open.

5:39 PM
I cast the last re-open vote as it seemed it was going to be re-opened anyway, but I am pretty unhappy. It simply looks like OP just changed "19.10" to "19.04" just to make it on-topic, and I feel they never actually tried the same on Disco. nautilus-admin can be found in universe even for Disco.
cc @Kulfy @EliahKagan

@pomsky It's also in Eoan.

Then perhaps OP simply didn't add universe?
But no point in asking as "what does it matter what I have tried?" :-/

I guess you could edit your answer to mention that it's in universe, though.

@EliahKagan I really don't want engage with the post any more, OP don't want to try the solution I suggested (clear from their comments).
I'm contemplating deleting it

I suggest not deleting your answer, because I think it's already useful to multiple people, but I understand and totally respect your decision not to engage further with the question.
Is Bash only gives integer as output regardless of input when performing calculations a duplicate of Bash arithmetic issues? Is there a better dupe target for both of them, maybe?

5:54 PM
Sorry if I sound bitter, but OP moved the goalpost by adding the "Is it still possible to right click a file in Nautilus and select "open as administrator" in 19.04?" part immediately after I posted the answer. I don't think the answer is valid anymore.

Well, it's up to you. I think your answer is appropriate even for the question as it is currently written. Answers that recommend a different tool to achieve the same goal are generally considered okay; this is sort of like that, but with even less deviation from what is requested.
Anyway, you do not sound bitter.

@EliahKagan As you suggest I would keep it for now solely for the "already useful to multiple people" part, but I'm not going to engage with the post (read OP) in any other way.

Understood.

Can we mark it as dupe of this askubuntu.com/questions/1042344/…?

I'm not sure.

@EliahKagan I'm having issues in understanding your comment. Was "The subexpression 1/5 does not create a non-integer value." intended to be a reply to "In your case 1 / 5 creates a non-integer value and bash fails further operations" in the answer?

Yes.

I posted here because it might be off-topic for ROLD.
Got it. I was confused since AFAIK 0 is also an integer value.
Although the line is wrong but the answer is correct. I think.

Yes, is an integer.

Are you saying my comments appears to say otherwise?

Woah!!!

If so, I may want to edit or replace it.

IMO it's confusing, at least for me.

1/5 is evaluated to 0, which as you say is an integer. Thus it "does not create a non-integer value."

Damn!!! I skipped not after does.
SIlly me.
Sorry for that.

No apology necessary, especially since I don't just want my comments to be correct, I also want them to be easy to understand. I've replaced the comment with one that says much the same thing but that I think is less confusingly worded. I'm still not sure it's as clear as it could be. If you'd be willing to read over the new comment and let me know what you think, I'd be grateful.

@EliahKagan The title of the latter is too vague I think.

Yeah, that could be improved.

That looks fine :)

I'm inclined to VTC it. The older question has more answers (and more views). None of its answers is as good as the one on the new question, but I've commented on the accepted answer about the most serious incorrect information it gives... and even that answer really is helpful and I think could be considered broadly correct. I definitely do not ever want the new answer (which was posted on the new question) deleted, but I think duplicate closure is reasonable.
Cool--thanks.
@Kulfy I think this is on-topic for the Downboat and also not "overly long technical" (as the room description says), and it relates directly to the dupe discussion in the Downboat. So I'm inclined to move it over to the Downboat. This is easy to do though, and there's no hurry -- I'll wait a bit to see if that still seems to make sense, and also I'll look at each message before moving them (as I do in general) to make sure I'm not missing something.
(If you oppose having them moved, pleased to let me know, though.)

6:28 PM
I won't consider them as dupe. The earlier is a clear case of floating point division but OTOH the latter one can be answered without actually doing floating point calculation. Like as you've already pointed in your comment, 100/$max will give integer value since $max=5.

Oh, okay.
I'll hold off, at least for a while, then.

It's upto you. But the comment I was talking about no longer exists.

We talk about a lot of stuff that no longer exists in the Downboat. :)
Although... can't they both be answered without doing a floating point calculation, so long as only integer precision is needed in the result?
Eh, no, I guess not. Nobody wants 1.65 to round to 1.

The latter is a specific example. 100/5 will always give 20 but OTOH 5/9 needs bc and floating point calculations. IMO the title of the earlier should be edited.
@EliahKagan Indeed.

Yeah. I was thinking, you can multiply by 5 and then divide by 9 (since the numbers are small enough that they won't overflow). But the integer division still truncates toward zero, which is not good there.

6:36 PM
Yeah. User might need that value to use somewhere else and the expected and actual results might vary.
Especially for <10k rep users. IYKWIM.

Yes, on this site we (or at least I) use the word "exists" in a way most people would rightly find strange.
For mods, deleted comments still exist too (though I believe the system only allows them to undelete comments that were deleted by flagging / mod action).

Yeah. They can't undelete self-deleted comments.

@Natty tp
@Kulfy Yeah, I'm not sure if the OP thought their post was permitted or what, but fortunately it was swiftly deleted as the spam it was.

7:01 PM
Does it qualify as an answer?

I'm not totally sure, but I think so. I've commented to urge the author to improve it by explaining why that will help.
@Kulfy I'll post "Related:" comments (unless you prefer to post the comments) but not VTC. The comments will have the titles, so I improved that title first. Do you think that new title is good? I fear it may have the opposite weakness, being maybe too long and complicated.

And what about this? It looks NAA to me but got +5.
@EliahKagan Seems fine. I was also planning to edit the title of the first one. Something like "How do I perform floating point divisions?"
Or is it fine?
What do you think?

7:17 PM
@Kulfy I'm not sure about that answer. I clicked Skip when I saw in the LQP review queue earlier. Answers telling the OP to use a different method from what they ask about are generally considered okay, though when the method an answer proposes is radically different from what the OP said they wanted, I think most people consider it best for the method to explain why the method they recommend is better for the specific situation described.
The question says the OP doesn't want to use a VM, but that was edited in after the answer was posted. I haven't flagged the answer NAA, but I did downvote it. It's not a good answer (and wasn't a good answer before the question edit, either). Since mine is currently the only downvote, I assume even that is a minority opinion.
The meta question Should an answer like remove Ubuntu and install (insert distro here) be flagged / downvoted? isn't about the same situation and I don't think it can be assumed to establish a consensus that applies there. But I think there's a lot of overlap in the considerations that are relevant to judging answers that say to do something very different.
Might the question be a duplicate of something?
@Kulfy I'm not sure. I think its current title is okay but probably could be better. If it's changed, I can update the "Related:" comment that refers to it. (The comment would still make sense if left unchanged, but it would make more sense if changed to match the new title, and since the comment is new anyway, I might as well remove and replace it if the title is changed.)
There is also the question dividing in bash script with digits. What should happen with that?
I guess that's separate from the others because that was edited to be largely about what happens with bc when the precision is not set.
But I'll post a "Related:" comment on it linking to the others too. (I won't bother linking them to it though.)

7:49 PM
Should this recent meta question be reopened, or is my comment sufficient?

@Zanna This doesn't directly address that, in that it's not on the site. But please do feel free to contact me using any of the methods given in my profile, if you ever feel like doing so! During my period of markedly decreased site activity to which you were referring, a lot of that information was unfortunately unusable. For example, it listed my Xfire contact information... but Xfire hasn't existed for years.
But since then, I've updated my profile, and the contact information on it is still current. Also, if you have tried to contact me but I didn't get back to you, then It was because I didn't notice, and sorry! (I don't think this has happened... but I'm not sure.)
