@JourneymanGeek I recently bought a couple DDR2 sticks for an old laptop that I wanted to use as a server

@JourneymanGeek uh... I was just sayin'. It was very cheap.

ah
@rahuldottech eh, I'm not really inclined to spend money on a box that could fail ;p
The ivy bridge is a much better system to invest time and effort in

11:00 AM
@JourneymanGeek it cost me... 500 for one 2 gig stick, iirc. That's... Like 8 USD.

11:30 AM
cheap

(One of the packages I tried crashes - and I know there's no 32 bit builds of it)

Hey! I stopped my haikus!
(Haikuxen? Haukuii? Haiku??)

Code should be consistent

Code should be self-descriptive

Code should be well documented

Code should utilize stable modern features

Code shouldn’t be unnecessarily complex

Code shouldn’t be un-performant (don’t write intentionally slow code)

Density of available online resources (StackOverflow density)

Development Velocity (vroom vroom)

Bug proneness (eeek)

Quality and breadth of package ecosystem (yea npm, it says quality)

Performance characteristics (more dots)

Hirability (sorry COBOL)

Can be practiced anytime, just find an open-source project that you feel like you want to contribute to. …

I PASSED MY ROAD TEST!!!!1!

@bwDraco Congrats on passing :)
You should be proud
Must feel good!

Third attempt. Got marked for going a bit too slow (10 points for "poor engine control/acceleration") but that was it.

4:08 PM
I'm so sick of MS breaking everything on Windows
Microsoft Store is now in Hindi, even though I don't even have that as a language anywhere in settings
Are you kidding me?

4:53 PM
Geolocation?

5:33 PM
Weird. Hindi is the main language but only 41%...

6:03 PM
Oh, and more exciting news...
I am starting a new job on August 19 and will be working full time. I may or may not be around during business hours on weekdays from that point on, and will be very busy over the next two weeks as I transition. Don't worry, though—I'll still be around other times as my schedule allows, so feel free to ping me if you need me for anything.
(somebody pin this :p)

@bwDraco Congrats on the new job starting
The message is a bit long to effectively pin/star- maybe re post first sentence?

7:30 PM

Do not try and SU chat while working
until you know it's 'ok'

:p

@bwDraco was that supposed to be a threat?

Q: I change Voltage from 220V to 110V

Dawit YohannesMy dell pc Power Supply uses 220V and my country standard too. And i chage the Voltage from 220v to 110 V at the back of PSU. And suddenly makes sound and smokes after that its stops working. chance to repair the power supply unit Or buy new?

oh dear

the user icon fits.

Yea, I noticed that one

9:30 PM
My computer was getting random BSoD on start. System restore was usually able to fix it but the problem kept coming back. It turned out the SATA cable to the SSD was damaged. If the cable was damaged wouldn't that mean it wouldn't work at all? How can it only be half broken and work fine until one reboot causes failure. How could system restore fix it temporarily?

9:50 PM
@northerner Drive disconnects and data errors during transfer can result in data and filesystem corruption on the disk. This is a problem not with the drive itself, but the data stored on it.

Damn tricky problem to isolate

AMD X570 boards need a fan to cool the power-hungry, PCIe 4.0-enabled southbridge, and that's a problem if you're making a Mini-ITX board. ASRock's solution? Use the Intel LGA115x cooler mount!
Intel cooler mount on AMD board. Sounds weird, but that's exactly what they did.
Also, Thunderbolt 3, sonething I don't recall seeing before on an AMD board.
I'm wondering... how did ASRock do this without resorting to ASUS's approach of using a mezzanine board?
(ASUS uses a mezzanine board on their mITX boards for audio and M.2)

10:49 PM
@bwDraco I donno about M2 but those Asus cards have fancier sound setups
Which need space
