Q: Is this American or English Cocker Spaniel?

Manas ShresthaI need help in identifying the exact breed of this pup. https://i.stack.imgur.com/nLveC.jpg

@trondhansen sorry to hear that :/
It's frustrating because, in my experience at least, once the symptoms are visible it's often too late :(

12:23 PM
@Henders it is a part of life so i just have to get some new koi.as i have mentioned before spring is the hardest time for fish so some losses are to be expected even if i try to do my best for them. i even got an expensive microscope to identify common problems :)

12:39 PM
@trondhansen are there fish vets too? How do you carry fish to vet chamber?

@Sonevol yes there is but not here wher i live so i have to use my extensive experience in fish medicine when i need to medicate fish,i just ask my vet to give me a prescription for what i need it is mostly common types of veterinary chemicals. :)
yes it is a little harder to transport fish so the vet will often come and treat the fish on site but tis is not common to do here, the only vet with experience in fish deseases is at the veterinary institute.and it will often cost less to buy new fish than it will cost to treat the one that is ill.

1:06 PM
@Sonevol you can take a look here to see what types of desease koi can get koi-care.com/koi-diseases-treatments it does say little about the treatments but i have books for that :)

@trondhansen here bringing vet home to treat ur pet is damn costly and only the rich can afford it
even I can't afford to give a call to a people's doctor to treat if need arise my mom, a life saving bus ambulance is much much cheaper option

it is expensive here too so this is the last option for common people.

They have a park near me with a river with lots of koi in it
the attraction of it is you book a boat tour and you can buy food to feed the koi and they'll swarm around your boat.

@Magisch koi are hungry all the time :) i know how it looks when all of them wants to eat at the same time.

@trondhansen is koi fish same as Anabas testudineus?

1:23 PM
Koi (鯉, English: , Japanese: [koꜜi]) or more specifically nishikigoi (錦鯉, [ɲiɕi̥kiꜜɡoi], literally "brocaded carp"), are colored varieties of Amur carp (Cyprinus rubrofuscus) that are kept for decorative purposes in outdoor koi ponds or water gardens. Koi is an informal group of the colored variants of C. carpio. Several varieties are recognized by the Japanese. Koi varieties are distinguished by coloration, patterning, and scalation. Some of the major colors are white, black, red, orange, yellow, blue, and cream. The most popular category of koi is the Gosanke, which is made up of the Kohaku...
they are in the same family as goldfish.

1:39 PM
kois are cool
nice looking and interesting fish

@trondhansen Anabas testudineus is called koi fish here and forms our staple diet

I'd love koi one day but my pond is too small
My Rudd are looking great though after the winter. They're getting hungry. The pond was 17c when I checked at lunchtime. Might be hotter later

@Henders have ever eaten Anabas testudineus which is called koi fish here? It's damn tasty

koi are not eaten they are too expensive, but the common carp is food :)

@trondhansen OK so Anabas testudineus is common carp in ur language
we people are famously called "Mach-e-bhat-e-bangali", mach = fish, bhat = rice, bangali = bengali people

1:47 PM
carp(e) diem

no it is not i did look here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anabas_testudineus it is definitly not the same.

Thats a gourami or perch

@trondhansen considering it's invasive nature, @YvetteColomb may soon find it in her local fish market ;-)

@Magisch it is a norwegian pop group carpe diem :) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carpe_diem

seize the carp for it is a fish and slippery

1:57 PM
@Sonevol one have to be careful not to release foreign fish into the nature this type of fish en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumpkinseed have spread in norway and in the UK,it is an aquarium fish from florida usa.
@Magisch lol
i have lots of pumpkin seed fish in my pond.

@Magisch g.r.o.a.n

well since pumkinseed fish are getting caught so easily they must be evolving quite fast following the principle of.................mutations and survival of the fittest

Hikers came across a dehydrated horned viper in the desert and gave it some water

Hey @RichieACC :)

so after getting rehydrated did the viper have any second thoughts of having some human meat...............it must have been damn hungry too? @RichieACC

2:07 PM
snakes generally do not eat humans

hehe, I have no more context on that.

we're not in their weight class. Even the largest anacondas kill humans out of self defense, not feeding instincts

@Magisch but the amazon anacondas?

They dont eat humans either iirc. We're too big

But anacondas are bigger than us

2:08 PM
Yeah, but we taste bad.

yeah but consider this. can an anaconda fit you inside its belly and more importantly through its jaw (as much as it can unhinge it)?
and also, it's like with sharks. Humans aren't tasty

@Sonevol they can eat cats and middle sized dogs not people.

Mongoose plays dead upon encountering a hornbill

@Magisch @RichieACC so you guys have teasted human meat, what is per kg price over there?

It's cheaper than chicken here.

2:10 PM
@Sonevol no

some wild stuff going on here now.

"taste" in that case is from the snake's perspective and evolved as a function of "should I eat this"

@Magisch then how can you say that human meat is not tasty?

no snake has humans in its prey scheme, it's not worth it

@RichieACC have you ever entered the stomach of anaconda to click some nice photos?

Q: Should I carry my elderly cocker spaniel out of the car?

LuminousNutriaI own a 13 year old cocker spaniel. I like to drive him around in my 2002 Toyota highlander. I'm worried though, because he has to jump about 2-3 feet down whenever we get out. I think this may damage his joints. He doesn't like being picked up, but he tolerates it. Should I carry him out of the ...

JAD
@Magisch some cases are known of retics eating men
but that's more an oppurtinistic thing than active hunting out humans
:human walks by: "hmm, I could probably eat this"

@RichieACC having some good laugh after reading the comments in the reddit viper link
@JAD big question, how do @RichieACC and @Magisch know that human meat is not tasty?

3 hours later…
5:30 PM
A cat arching it's back is that good or bad?
Flicking of the tail

arching the back can be stretching, or can be posturing to make itself look larger and try to scare off an enemy. Flicking of the tail can be a warning sign, too, or could be interest in prey.

We are feeding someone's cat while they are awqy
We have met the cat a few times. She like to sit on my lap

Are there any other signals she's giving?

Well I played with one, the other one didn't want anything to do with us
But the one I played with still seemed relevant to let me pet her

Possibly just a little uneasy, then. If she arches and swishes her tail, probably best to give her a little distance and let her calm down on her own.
Adult cats especially usually take time to warm up to strangers

5:47 PM
Yeah I just tried to give her some room
Thanks :)
Might have more questions in the next few days! Haha

5:58 PM
I'll see if I can remember to poke my head in over the weekend. :) Mostly I hang out in here while waiting for code to compile at work.

6:20 PM
@AllisonC I understand Bhutu so much that I wonder I will be able to tell what different cat signs mean................it is as if when a human smiles with a certain look in eyes it's smile of sorrow, another look means sign of joy.................u just know it..............that's it.............now an alien asks how to understand whether human smile is sorrow or joy................it gets so much difficult to explain
