Q: Why did my cat attack my eyeball when I was sleeping?

ZealoussheepI have a nine-year-old cat who sleeps next to my pillow every night since he was a kitten. Last night, he attacked my right eye when we were sleeping. He then went on to sleep. I was lucky, my eyeballs weren't hurt but my eyelid now has claw marks. I am afraid to have him sleeping with me again....

9:38 AM
@JAD yeah I was surprised at how big it is Vs how much is sticking out the water.
If that was murky river water you'd never even see it.
Perfect predator

JAD
yep, and under water, its sluggishness is totally gone

I don't think I've ever seen one swim though. Would be interesting to see
Also, penguins! They're so fast underwater it's crazy

@Henders plenty of nature docs on youtube :P

@JAD are there really anacondas guarding orchid flowers?

10:15 AM
@JAD yeah I will have to find one. I watched an excellent documentary on Netflix which featured some orcas. Hands down my favourite wild animal.

@Henders remember that harry potter and the chamber of secrets anaconda?

@Sonevol yes

11:09 AM
@Henders is it really something like snake language which some talented human can speak?

11:25 AM
@Sonevol Harry potter is a work of fiction so I wouldn't base any assumptions about the real world on it

Q: Should we close this question about statistics about vets?

ElmyThis question "Scholarly article on the percentage of vets who recommend spaying/neutering" really annoys me but I'm not sure if it's acceptable on this site or not. The main question (among a lot of text) is: All that is to ask: where can I find some definite, credible statistics on the pe...

I'm a little bit stumped

JAD
11:52 AM
eh, I don't really have an opinion on the matter

12:24 PM
@Henders why always so serious?

12:46 PM
@Henders i do not think the question brings any value to our site,the question is about what kind of opinion vets might have.

1:15 PM
@trondhansen but isn't the vet's opinion relevant?
@Sonevol eh?
@JAD I can see both sides but don't feel strongly about it either way as such

2:57 PM
a vets opinion is relevant but i trust my vet to give my pet the treatment that is best for my pet and not what is best for the vet.we do have two types of vets here some do it for the love of money and the rest do it for the love of animals,my sisters dog had to have the uterus removed yesterday as a result of infection,the vet did think this was the best solution for the dog,it could have been treated with antibiotics but1/2
this type of infection do often come back and it is a possibility that the dog could not be saved the next time 2/2

@trondhansen is removing uterus that costly?

@Sonevol it is a large type of surgery because of the infection so it do cost close to 800 euro.

I'm not sure offhand what it costs here, but it varies with the animal. I think it was $400 for my roommate to have her Great Dane spayed recently, but it's closer to $75-$100 USD for a cat.

@AllisonC in europe the cost for spaying a dog is about 170 euro nimblefins.co.uk/how-much-cost-spay-neuter-dog and if the uterus is infected it cost around 1000 euro.

3:12 PM
@trondhansen That makes sense for it to be higher if there's already an infection. I missed that in the first comment :)

3:24 PM
@trondhansen here it is Rs 5,000 which is 72 US dollar or 63 euro
for cat
and in government hospitals it is done for free
only u have to bear the cost of medicines which is also available at cheaap rate from in hospital government medicine shop

@Sonevol it is about the same here with some local variation cats.org.uk/what-we-do/neutering/financial-assistance i use the uk cost but it is not too far off compared to euro.

@trondhansen are government vet hospitals there? where doctors, technicians, nurse all are on government salary and all equipments are brought and maintained from government money?

people hospitals yes,animal hospitals no.vet cost is not regulated in the same way as the public health care.

3:45 PM
here we even have cat spas...............where they provide spa service to cat
I'm not joking, but I've no idea what will be the service

one of my koi carps are ill,it is possibly some type of virus or possibly cancer it is probably too late to save it.it is not easy to get a hold of 5-6kilo carp in over 30000liters of water.
@Sonevol we do not have a cat spa here yet :) and i guess it might cost a lot to give the cat a spa treatment :)

well not much in the pet store where I once went, there was a pet parlor with separate rooms for saloon and spa.................but all were dogs, i Didn't see any cat......................but it was not written dog spa, it was written pet spa
there were barbers giving fancy fancy body hair cuts and facials to dogs

4:00 PM
i sort of doubt they put the cat in a heated swimingpool,we do have beauty saloons for dogs but not for cats.

We have groomers here, they do cat services, but are mostly catered to dogs because cats can largely take care of their own grooming. I take Bea there for a "sanitary trim" to keep her backside clean, but my other two have never gone.

Q: Can I get rabies from a stray puppy

Mariisms I adopted a stray puppy about 2months old. The mom was abandoned near our home our neighbor took in the mom. He likes nipping clothes and shoe ties and I'm worried if I get bitten. Can I get rabies from it? Should I get rabies prevention shot?

i guess the dog groomers do cats too but i have never seen any cats there,some pet shops do have dog groomers in the same building.

even in vet places Bhutu is always the single cat rest all dog............I have never seen any other cat at vet place till now...............it is as if vet means dog doctor
Actually over here having expensive dog at home is a status symbol...............less about love for dog................more about social high status
cats are mainly adopted by the very poor, who can't even afford proper cat food, and give cats rice to eat

4:16 PM
here cat owners and cats have our own waiting room,and it is about the same number of cats as there is dogs here and it is more as companionship.
some breeds are about status but i am not sure if they have a better life than the rest of our pets.

Here cats tend to get shown into the waiting rooms at regular (private) vets a little faster, because they tend to be more uneasy in the general waiting room with other animals around. The time I went for a pickup at the low-cost/subsidized vet, it seemed like there were maybe close to equal cats and dogs being picked up.

it is not possible for all vets to have separate waiting rooms but some have.the best vet we have here have a small office in an old barn he do work way more than he should he do not know how to say no it is not good for him people call him on christmas eve and he comes to treat their pets.

4:47 PM
We have some like that, too; the one where I grew up was much like that. The ones I use now have four waiting/exam rooms in the office, so they can send cats and cat owners into one of those rooms fairly quickly.
It's probably a little regional here, I grew up in a rural area and live in an urban area now.

1 hour later…
5:55 PM
i live in an rural area and we have four diferent vets less than 10km from where i live.
