Q: Story set in future Earth: in an enclosed megalopolis, an old man sends simulacra pigeons in the unhabitable outside, one day a real bird comes back

JenayahThis question was initially asking for two separate works, was trimmed down to one and reopened. As OP never came back but still provided a decent enough summary of the second question, I'm reposting it so that it doesn't get lost: The second story is also set in a future Earth, where people ...

Q: Why did Alastor Moody grow rusty in his duelling skills at his old age, while Dumbledore can still fight Voldemort in his old age?

Ken_To_2018In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, it was mentioned that Moody was defeated by both Bartemius Crouch Jr. and wormtail, but Moody is the most powerful auror the Ministry has ever had. How come? However, Dumbledore is much older than Moody is, yet Dumbledore can still take on Voldemort with ...

Q: Where was Alastor Moody in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince?

Ken_To_2018In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, it was mentioned that Moody attended Dumbledore's funeral. Did Moody take part in the Battle of the lightning struck tower? There seems to be no mentioning of Moody during this battle. Can someone explain? Thanks.

@Marvin oh hey, Ken's back! That will please @Alex :D
And their title-writing has greatly improved, too. That's good.

@Jenayah Nice. I know I've thought about this a bunch of times, but did I ever actually state it?

Hmmm, that's strange. I'd have sworn you did in Meta, for a "favorite questions of the quarter" or stuff, but I can't find it. It might be in chat.
oh, one's a dupe
:/

@Jenayah I don't think I ever posted on one of those Metas, but I do have a recollection of mentioning that I liked Ken's questions.
@Jenayah The other one might be also. It's at least certainly related to another question asked by Ken.

Ah, I was searching using "Ken", so that didn't show up.

ah there's a @TheLethalCarrot around... Walking the puppy? :P

No but she woke up and was super awake and now I’m wide awake

go take a walk, can't hurt

Nah she went for further than she should do yesterday and is back asleep now finally
also I’m convinced you’re a robot, you just never sleep

I do sleep
I'm just more of a night owl on weekends :P

It’s a work/school night though haha

yeah but I woke up late today so I'm not that tired

Ahhh I remember the days of lie ins before the pup

Don't you take turn with your girlfriend walking her? (the pup, not the girlfriend ;p )

We usually walk her together but she works weekends sometimes so I’ve walked her this time
weve had some weird mornings when I’ve had her out walking

Sun in England? Definitely weird

Joseph HorodyskiBack in high school in the late 1970s I had a book of short stories we had to read in English class, and one story has stayed with me every since. > We actually receive a number of flags from stricter reviewers of the form "user X is being too lenient in reviews", and most commonly these don't lead to review bans, because it's merely a difference in opinion / leniency rather than someone robo-reviewing
Holy shit, this happens?

11:39 AM
Why not? Robo reviewers are a problem

Has user been warned (comment/chat) before?

You mean by the flagger?

Well if someone flags for mod before reaching to the user, that would seem wrong

It's not really something a normal user should handle though, the mods can always message the user if they want rather than banning of course

Well if flagger is a "stricter reviewer" they might provide some guidance on how they think reviewing should be done before dumping it into mods' hand
Target user could just be unaware they're doing it wrong
Admittedly target user could also be a ducking robo-reviewer, don't get me wrong

11:47 AM
Well sure but but some things like that, are in my opinion, better handled by a more impartial mod than a "stricter reviewer"

Stricter reviewer doesn't mean guidance should be strict

I meant that maybe the reviewer is being too strict and so it's better for a mod to look and judge if the flagger was being too strict or not at all, also there isn't really much of an appropriate place to contact most people about it

"Hey XYZ, don't mean to be preachy, but I think there are things you don't spot when reviewing, for instance in this case you should have traced the summary's source and edited it in. Not the biggest deal, but thought I'd let you know so that you don't get a review ban some day. I can clarify in chat anytime if you want"
Yeah once again it's not the "user gets flagged" part that irks me, it's that the way it's phrased, it seems to be dumped straight away into mods' hands

Like I said mods are better equipped to handle this sort of thing rather than other users but each to their own I guess

(gonna be straightforward about flagging users, I've done that when Shrek-lover user's questions kept on sucking despite feedback being given by others)

11:54 AM
Meh in that case I probably wouldn't flag the user because it is something more that normal users can handle but he didn't improve at all so maybe was worth it

I flagged for mod message, day later user was suspended, though :/

There was something more to it than just the quality of the questions if I remember correctly

Oh yeah but that was suspected since December

Anyhow I'll stop discussing that now :)

Ah, right
Lunch's over anyway so be back later I guess ;p

@Jenayah and again. I don't know, that seems iffy. I bring up a lot of story-ID answers but lately there's a pattern of a set of two-three IDs that keep getting UVed one after each other in like ~30 seconds for 2-3 days, then the set renews.
Am I overthinking this or does it seem starnge to anyone else here?
I checked around in the prominent story-ID answerers and didn't seem to find such a thing elsewhere :/

@Jenayah if you're seeing patterns of possible weird behaviour, i'd err on raising a flag so that local moderators can investigate and see if there's any funny business.

K, will do that.

A secret admirer...

@Jenayah Is each one only getting one upvote?

@NapoleonWilson Well there was a kinda similar pattern some time ago and it turned out in someone soc... doing iffy business.
@Alex nah it's like at some point they both get upvoted in a couple seconds, dozen hours pass and same stuff happens on same posts

6:39 PM
Well if it was just a few old answers getting upvoted at the same time it would be easily explainable.

At least that's how it feels but I'm checking my rep tab to see if it's actually a thing or I'm hallucinating
@Alex no, kinda recent answers, hence why I'm unsure whether it's just someone reviewing recent story-ID or secret lover

@Jenayah I didn't mean that it could only be limited to old answers. For instance, I might say "I haven't read any of Jenayah's recent answers; let me check them out." And then I'll read three of your recent answers and upvote them.

I can imagine someone doing that, but that would be several persons doing that, and a couple seconds between upvotes mean they're both fast readers

Well that's why I asked if each post was only getting one upvote.
