Recently I was invited to a co-ed indoor soccer game where all the participants were people from my company. At the time I didn't really know any of the other players personally and most of them I'd never met before because none of them worked in my building. I was made to believe ahead of time t...
@JourneymanGeek Oh, yeah, that I recognize! I'm using a Python library named gpiozero for interfacing with the relays and the buttons. Trying a different library for the LCD display since it's quite a bit more complex and so far, all I've got are blocks. I plan on swapping out the display for the other one in the pair and see if it's any better with that one.
if anybody who's happy without marriage that why everybody want to convince for marriage .they spend there life with her own way and stay more happy.and if marriage is necessary then she have a option to spend her life with understandable person.
In many ways this question mirrors Asking a girl whether she would like to dance with me
The setting: I am alone in a nightclub. I am located in a city/region known for being culturally progressive and sex positive. Loud electronic music (generally house, or other electronic music) is a constant...
@Noon:I want to award him a bounty, because like 1 year ago, he gave me an advice (I at least think it was him, sadly can't find that note he made anymore... must have been in a chat room. is there a way to find all chat rooms I was once in, even if they are frozen?!) and that advice helped me me a lot in professional and personal life. And I would prefer awarding that bounty, when he will at least take notice of it >.<
I asked building management if we could have a slide in the office, but they said slides aren't safe. So I said Google has a slide. Response: "Go work at Google then." I think I'm starting to convince them.
@dhein From Peufeu profil, they are still more or less active here (last seen 6 hours ago) but they didn't answer a question since 18th September, so...
So the HNQ discussion on meta.se has been unfeatured and is now invisible unless you know the link since it's downvoted off the front page even if active
I had a call with a Russian guy this morning that was supposed at 8AM CEST time, he called me at 6. Now I have another called scheduled at 9AM CEST time and I was confused and thought it'd be at 9AM GMT!
@avazula Fun fact. Daylight saving time in France ends on the last Sunday of October (so last Sunday). Daylight saving time in Australia begins on the first Sunday of October (so 3 weeks ago).
So Melbourne is sometimes 8 hours ahead of us, sometimes 9 and sometimes 10
@Tinkeringbell: The problem is, the chat you hopped in isnt containing him saying that. So it must have been another chat rather than the "discussing Narcism" one. Also either it wasn't him giving me that advice and I am honoring him for a year as result of a confusion (I doubt that) or there must be another room him and me had been in. ( I remember that at that time I had a handfull of chats I discussed that topic in )
Superpings are a chatroom feature only available to diamond moderators, where they can reach a user irrespective of past interaction.
Compare that to a normal ping, where you can @name someone in comments or in a chatroom only if they have been active on a post or in that chatroom.

@Tinkeringbell: Feels a bit like drawing a lot of attention on it '^.^ But thanks tho, definetly should fit its purpose xD By the way, got my first payroll after having finished my first month at SAP its great here. Was such a good idea following peufeus advice :)
@Tinkeringbell: It is ok. uncomfortable isn't the right word. Just feels a bit over the top. But I didn't ask you for it, so I am fine and thankful with it ;P
hehe thanks. Yeh, they do great work supporting employees being on the spectrum. Feels like this might be the employer I finally found to be able to stay with :)
and for that reason I am wishing y'all a nice day. I need to continue my work now '^.^
TL;DR
How can I calm the situation when my mother and sister are violently arguing without the situation backfiring at me?
Background
The other day, my mother and my little sister (17 years) were arguing (my sister didn't wanted to do what my mother wanted her to do because of X) and the situa...
@avazula Hahaha :P I will wait patiently. Don't feel rushed, or pressured into doing anything you don't like doing ;) I have the same with crocheting, I don't like having to make stuff I don't like making :P
@Tinkeringbell :) I just had a few complicated days where I didn't feel like drawing a very precise thing, because I know I'd have been so frustrated if it didn't look like what I expected in the end
@Cashbee The sketching in itself is done (there's a filter here though because I wanted to hide all the white painting I used to correct bad lines :p). I'm currently coloring it with Photoshop
Last month I moved into a shared house. There are 6 people living here. The primary lease holder told me he had told another tenant to move out because he was always late on the rent. I never met this tenant or had a say in him moving out. Now it’s close to next month and we still don’t have a re...
@ElizB Hey just read your answer, it does give me some good food for thought. I realize my situation isn't really the same, but I can work off what you've suggested.
@avazula @Cashbee I think you are overthinking here. Your comments are both fine (IMO) and, if they are annoyed (which we don't know), that absolutely not on you (IMO again)
Hi guys, sorry if this is something we're not allowed to talk about here, but I've just noticed the HNQ removal in meta (I had wondered where IPS had gone!). What did we do wrong? Something about twitter?
Oh, I started a course in photography :D I decided I'm not going to stop being a software engineer because some people are rude to me. Instead, I'm going to do the two things I like doing. It's not a degree, just a course. And in a few months, I'm applying to a degree in Computer Science. :)
I'm writing the first draft of my application at the moment. I'm hoping to get into Goldsmiths. Applications open in January, but my English certificate doesn't seem to count and I need to get a new one, which doesn't seem possible in time. That means I'll have to postpone my application half a year, but I stopped worrying about half a year :)
@dhein Eeh, I didn't think about it that way, but you're right :)
I drew this because I have a friend who's hurt so much by his divorce (he left his wife because she has mental health issues she doesn't want to get help for and she's become a real danger for him and their children). It feels like he's not over it yet and that he's still going through so much pain because of it. I feel his pain and I hardly bear it so I drew it to "evacuate". It was some kind of reminder that love isn't always on time.
I haven't showed him though. I'm way too afraid of his reaction.
Thanks Cashbee - I think if she doesn't apologize I would like to bring it up later down the line rather then address it now. Good advice — brucezepplin1 min ago
While I don't necessarily disagree with the information you're trying to get across, typical Interpersonal answers will be less confrontational when possible. You may want to consider trying to soften the language you're using, though of course take my comment with a grain of salt. Contributing at all is better than nothing. :) — Onyz1 min ago
If a wild deer dies under say a tree that tree is going to absorb some of the nutrients that'll be unlocked from its carcass by bacteria and small insects
@Belle-Sophie Sometimes, bees are trapped into a fig (on a fig tree) and died inside. The tree then uses the nutriment who comes from the dead bees. Figs are considered vegan. I think the main difference is "does this animal died by itself or did a human act on them so they would die?"
@Noon Oh, I heard that figs are actually not vegan. But apparently all plants that require bees to polinate are not vegan either according to some people. And yeah, wasps.
What about plants that procreate by being eaten by animals? Every wild strawberry plant's seed came from some creature's digestive tract, for instance.
@Magisch I think it depends on the reason you are vegan. For me, it's about unnecessary pain and death. So, if nothing suffer (or die) in the process, it's vegan IMO
@Belle-Sophie honestly, I think that all or nothing mentality is hurting the cause. I can expect a lot of people being willing to eat less meat, but not stop eating meat completely. If that proposal is met with "that's not good enough, you still suck", that might trigger the reaction "well, nevermind then".
@JAD I agree. I'm a light 'vegetarian'. I eat fish once a week and don't research whether my wine and cheese are 100% vegetarian or not. I don't buy the obvious meat. But I've got quite a few comments like "you're not a real vegetarian if you eat fish!" and "you gotta research your wine if you want to be a vegetarian".
This situation seems similar as the labelling of sexualities. vegetarian is just a label we use, but there are soo many variations that you can't say I'm not a vegetarian because I still eat fish
@JAD I feel that too. I used to live vegan, and found it uncomfortable and not tenable for myself long term. I still eat a lot less meat then I used to
@avazula: I am sorry for the reasons you had to vent with the picture. and since the las message we exchanged was the joke, I added, I am not sorry cause you can't C# but for the other thing
@Magisch I'm actually the other way around. My dad is vegetarian, so when I was young, we used to not eat meat. Now I live on my own I'm slowly learning to eat/appreciate more meat
I get the feeling that most of the comments come from non-vegetarians, though.
I've never eaten a type of nuts due to an allergy. Never a single rude comment when I asked if that nut was in the ingredients. Now when I ask about meat, queue the rude responses, sighs from servers, etc.
Okay, never is an exaggeration. Some people believe allergies are fake.
I've had... trouble with that too, living in a house with vegan/vegetarian people. I really didn't like the way they used different utensils for everything, and got mad when e.g. I made meat and the oil/butter spattered into the pan of boiling potatoes :/
@Magisch That's awful! My grandmother did something similar to my brother, not as bad though. He was allergic to strawberries. He looked like he had chicken-pox for a few weeks. He still has a few scars.
Murder implies knowingly doing something that you know will kill them. Given that she doesn't believe in allergies, it is debatable whether it was knowingly. Stupid, but wouldn't surprise me
@Tinkeringbell Yeah, that's very annoying and nonsense in my opinion too. It doesn't matter what was cooked in the pan before. That's just making it needlessly complicated.
@Tinkeringbell ugh, the people I lived with in Leiden didn't believe in storing away the dishes after doing them. Just left them in the leaking rack. Only to then get mad when I put them again on the stack with dirty dishes on the other side of the sink
If they were in the kitchen unattended for that long, surely you don't think they're clean anymore. Might as well clean them again
@JAD Bah. That sounds disgusting... I'm having some of the same arguments with my mom right now, we got a dishwasher quite recently (6 months now?) ... and she wants me to put away e.g. a glass I used in it, but also wants me to reuse it. I don't like that. I'm willing to just rinse the glass and put it on the drying rack, but it feels dirty when I take it out of the dishwasher...
My sister just puts all the dirty clothes on a pile, once a week she brings it to the washing machine, so once a week we have a load of dirty clothes and the rest of the days less (we wash regularly)
@Tinkeringbell Eew. Everything that does into the dishwasher stays in there until it's ran. The thing doesn't care if you put 2 or 4 glasses in it! I just grab a clean glass.
